    We need more like this. The struggle and stigma is real. Even if they do not turn out to become a couple, the boys deeply care for each other and this kind of friendship is very rare and it should not be stigmatized to something it isn't. Just because you deeply care for someone of the same gender, doesn't mean you're gay. There is nothing wrong about this. Who are the people to judge any relationship but their own? Nobody has the right to judge other people's relationships (friendships are relationships too)

      That is true. It goes to show how deeply rooted homophobia is in straight male culture, even from a young age, that it controls them so much. You are right that 2 males, no matter if they are both straight, both gay, or 1 is gay and 1 is straight, can be just really close friends....however 2 straight males who are that close platonically, will likely end their friendship once others start accusing them of being gay or whatever. And its understandable. Because at that age, to be thought of by your peers as gay, is practically a death sentence, figuratively speaking, because gays are hated so much, they are basically considered subhuman. So young straight males will base all of their actions on not being perceived as gay. Well, even many young gay males will do so, because they know what is at stake

      I am guessing this is another sad gay movies that doesn't make any sense and rarely happens in real life. It is so boring. I am also predicting that 2 very masculine men falling in love once they are men and their kisses look so unnatural. Gay movie directors need to start producing something we could relate to.

    Love between two people can be purely platonic. I was friends with a gay guy, but his other female friends managed to persuade him that I was infatuated with him and he ended our friendship. It wasn't true; I just cared deeply about him, even when he opened up to me about his relationship with another guy; I supported him through the ups and downs of it. Males in our society are not allowed to love each other. Whether platonic or not, love should never be stifled. In fact, I hope the relationship they depict here is platonic - we do not see examples of that. Males need to be shown they can FEEL, that they can be emotional, and yes, that they can love each other. Love does not have to equal sexual attraction, though there is certainly nothing wrong if it leads to that. We screw our males up so badly, that they end up shutting down their emotions altogether, or priviledge only the negative, violent tendencies.
    The relationship between these two boys should be allowed to be whatever it is. In reality, it probably would not. This an important film.

      @@BMFstudiosNYC Sorry, but that's not what toxic masculinity is. Yes, there are people of all sexes and genders who are not in touch with their feelings and emotions, for many, many reasons. That is not what makes someone toxic. In fact, teaching boys that they should not be emotional, forcing them to suppress their emotions, can lead to the very toxicity that many men suffer from, and which then causes others to suffer as well. Anyone forced into a role they do not feel fits them is a toxic situation. And anyone who teaches boys to suppress their emotions, be aggressive, homophobic, physically violent, and that men are superior to women, perpetuate toxic masculinity.

Just because two friends of the same sex (I feel like with guys, maybe not so much with girls) have a deeply emotional relationship doesn't make them a couple. It is good to have such friendships without ties to romance. Friendships are also relationships. This is a very eye-opening, educational movie. Parents teach your children, especially your boys, it is okay to have guy friends and be really good, deep, emotional, non-romantic friends with other boys. The film criticizes the toxic masculinity imposed by society. Many viewers who have already seen the film say that this is an LGBTQIA+ themed film, but no, it is not. And if it were, it wouldn't be a problem, since children also fall in love, the point here is that Leo and Remi are friends, brothers, with a lot of intimacy and that in the eyes of others is not acceptable. One of them starts to move away so that people stop judging him and the other, who is not yet in this perception of the world, does not understand and is very sad. The film has a raw view of how harmful and cruel the opinion of others is and how much we have to take care of our children's mental health.

      -It’s not “male culture”. That’s def not a universal male feature. (Which goes to the next point: there are definitely non-western cultures that don’t do this and still have intact cultures of male friendship and bonding/brotherhood). But my point here is women also do toxic masculinity. Every time you hear those “man up” / “man child” / “he’s not man enough” comments from women, that’s women espousing toxic masculinity (and misogynism, as far as I can tell). Toxic masculinity is a cultural trait shared and perpetuated by all members of a given culture, not just the males. That’s why I’m pointing the finger at cultural systems, not just at males, or straight males. All members of the system perpetuate the system - even the victims of it, like gays and (at a deeper level) women.
      My two cents, bro ✌️💛

      Come to think of it, straight males are also victims. They trade kindness, closeness, love, friendship, affection - all the good stuff, basically - for prestige in some screwed up hierarchy of assholery lol There, I said it: the alpha male is also a victim 😆

    • @MH-bw9zt
      @MH-bw9zt Год назад +3

      @@seankerr9158 I wouldn't go that far. Some straight males are definitely victim to it, as I think this movie shows. However, some are the ones to perpetrate it and keep it going.

    A similar thing happened to me. My first childhood love turned away from me as we grew apart. He died a year back or so. So many questions left unanswered.
    This was a painful yet beautiful movie experience, it put words on my feelings. This film and the book "Dance on my grave" by Aidan Chamber helped me through a very dark time of my life.

    Friendships like this are rare. Your best friend at 13 will go away and you will never see them again ever! I had a great friendship at 13 but one day he tricked me to look close then blew Cheeto crumbs in my eyes I naturally teared up from the obvious and he chided me. I wrote him a mean letter saying I was only his friend to ride jet skis and enjoy his parents wealth...he cried and we never repaired it.

    I could not stop my tears, remembering my very own similar story at 14 when my own close friend abruptly stopped speaking to me, and avoiding me like a plague in our entire HS years. Just because some schoolmates starting teasing him of our friendship. He was the Leo to my own Remis. If I wasn’t as famous and more achieving than him, I wouldn’t have the courage to weather the stigma and emotional pain. And I could’ve ended up like Remis.

    The closest male friend I ever had was in my late teenage years. We lived in a small town and after a while we heard the gay rumors. I loved him and he loved me but neither of us were gay. I laughed off the rumors but he couldn't do the same and eventually pulled away which devastated me. We both married and had children and spoke occasionally over the years. Ended up living far away from each other and basically lost touch. I got the devastating news that he took his own life about 10 years ago. I carry him in my heart always. Never had such a close male friendship til I met him and sadly I have never had another one since. I miss him every day! Close male friendships are very special and affection between men has to be normalized!

    I had a best Friend who I genuinely loved, taught her how to roller skate. Eighth grade was great for the two of us, but then high school years came and went, it was like I didn't know her anymore or she got really bored of me, so I gave her space and she never contacted me again.

      I also had a friend like that. We were inseparable, grew up together, I feel like we cared deeply for each other at least I cared deeply for him. High-school started and we drove apart. Also guy-girl relationships become complicated. I've missed the relationship we had ever since.
      I actually did contact him and we had a great evening together but sadly he barley remembers anything.

    Why do these films always end badly 😢

    • @ticket2
      @ticket2 Год назад +17

      I think these kind of films end badly because the writer feels shame for being or feeling close to another male even in childhood days. The guilt young boys to men are subject too is socially relentless. Heaven forbid a boy or man is emotionally or physically caring for his male friend or any other male to male relationship. Why do men allow this stigma of shame for being close and societal harassment to continue. It's sad. It's wrong and males need to make it stop from being that way.

    We need more gay coming of age movies like this with that kind of age range from gay youths instead of casting people in their 20s playing gay youths because it makes the depth and emotion much more authentic. I wish they'll also make some gay coming of age movies where a young boy with that age falls in love to a handsome older Teenage boy. That will be a very interesting concept.

    I still can't get rid of the pain even if it is just a movie and even though, I can't relate coz I don't have a similar experience, but the thought of a young kid killing himself and the other kid can no longer say sorry or bring closure to their conflict is just so sad. I'm depressed watching the movie and even after watching it. Homophobia brings no good to our well-being. I hope that one-day humanity will live without the stigma and can be who they want to be without prejudice.

    In my country, this kind of friendship is not rare. What we see is that their actions are obviously show that they're just best friends. We don't become or assume someone is gay just because they are close to another person with the same gender. Yes, sometimes we make fun of it (only to boys, don't ask me why we don't do that to girls; cause idk😂), but all parties know that that is only a joke, and we all chill about it. We even still hang out afterwards. I don't know, maybe it's because our people love joking around and chill. But I get it: different countries, different people, different points of view, etc.
    Anyways, this movie is great👍🏻👍🏻
