For that last one, requiring unpaid work is a crime and is theft, and dealing with it within the company is the wrong approach. The proper approach is to report it to the state labor department. You can also file a lawsuit with an attorney (preferably one that specializes in labor laws) to get compensation and possibly a punitive award. The company needs to know that their manager is stealing from the employees on behalf of the company--and to make sure the higher-ups aren't onboard with theft, they need to know that the authorities are aware of it.
First story… sounds like the general manager has constipation. You could be nice, and buy him a bottle of Milk of Magnesia. Remember,, the initials of Milk of Magnesia spell mom.
Never would do this to a manager I respect but at my my old job I told my manager who was also HR to get off his ass and help take out trash while our janitor was on vacation. That HR was replaced soon after.
The best part of the domain name bit is that the company told him to pay personally, so they can't claim cybersquatting either. They literally told him to become the owner of those names.
Honestly it’d only be open for legal issues if he pretends to be the company. I forget the case specifics, but someone bought a domain before a big company could and set up basically a hate site for the complaints about the company and when taken to court the only thing that changed was an added disclaimer that the company didn’t own or run the site. The guy got worn down eventually by the company trying to sue over and over. Even if each got thrown out they still took money and time, you know? Just cause you’ll win every case doesn’t mean you’ll still win in the end.
I'm a big proponent of dressing for the job you want, not the one you have. But I do look rather silly showing up to the office every day wearing an astronaut suit.
As far as i Know no state requires an employee to give 2 weeks notice. It is merely a courtesy to do so and often isn't done if there is something the person quitting just can't deal with any more. It also happens fairly often is circumstances as stated in the story .
That bit about the dress code reminds me of the Dilbert comic book 'Casual Friday has gone too far.'. that said I would have shown up dressed as the Fonz.
No state in the US requires a two week notice.. it's just courtesy, and might be good if your employer is nice and you're using them as a reference. If not, I wouldn't bother.
When the GM showed up to purchase the domain names and wanted to act like the a-hole he is I would have decided then not to sell. Telling him I'll have a lease contract sent to the CEO for the domains and if the company wants them now because of you they can pay me every year instead of only once.
Story 3: I don't know what the problem is with this weird meeting. Just clock in. You are at work. If somebody complains on overtime, stop attending the meeting.
The second story, if the waiter/waitress isn't the one doing my service and they're never around when I actually need something, then either their getting a small tip for bad service, or I'm directly giving their tip to the person who actually did the work and took care of me.
In the last story. It's a pity someone come to work dressed as a stripper. When told come dressed for the job you want, not the job you have. OK 2 dressed as strippers. One dressed ready to strip wallpaper and paint. The other dressed as a night club stripper/exotic dancer.
As someone who IS familiar with the legality of domain names: if OP in story 1 put the Domain names on HIS credit card, then it depends. If he is also the listed OWNER and CONTACT for said domain name, then said domain name is under HIS OWNERSHIP and thus the domain names could be legally redirected.
Anyone can buy any available domain name even if it has a name that is trademarked. Companies when the internet just began to take off really had to scramble to lock down their names before others bought them and held for what basically a legal form of ransom. It still happens occasionally but it's a lot less common now as companies and entities are a lot smarter about locking down domain names before anything goes public.
Re: the first story: you are not allowed to infringe on people's trademarks. There is only so far you can push if if you are sitting on a valuable name you obviously don't have a use for.
Story 4: Sally is psychotic. The “no talking bad about customers amongst ourselves” rule would have been a deal breaker for me, never mind the mandatory unpaid meetings. As anybody who has worked a customer-facing job/position knows, >90% of customers are/can be assholes every now and then/from time to time/under the right (wrong?) circumstances, and the people that deal with them need a means of “blowing off the steam” that accumulates when dealing with these customers, and not being allowed to vent to co-workers about it is an unacceptable situation as far as I’m concerned. I can understand bosses not wanting you to do that IN FRONT OF THE CUSTOMERS. That, I get. But not allowing it AT ALL, even away from them , is a MAJOR red flag.
The only power an employer has over you is your desire to continue. Once that desire is gone, so is the power. The third story is an example of this. OP's desire went away so anything the boss did or said doesn't matter.
In the story where OP's friend Kathy was fired "for having a brain", he should have connected the dots for the CEO: sales dropped 6 months ago, when Kathy and I were directed to no longer coordinate with each other, and tanked three months ago when she was fired. And since I (OP) was not given the promised money for a new employee referral, why should you expect me to put in extra effort for anything?
In Canada and the USA, if it's Mandatory by the Company, then it MUST BE DONE ON THE CLOCK!!! If the Company tells you to do something unpaid and or refuses to pay you for Mandatory Meetings/tasks, then call the Ministry (Canada)/Department (USA) of Labour and make a Wage Theft Complaint!
ok KCC to the first story no it's not ilegal for OP in that story to hold the domain names he could do it forever as far as i'm aware in the USA, to the second story it could get him in trouble intentionally trying to recruit more employees from another employeer as that has a specific law to it. It's called poaching. People have been sued over poaching employees before. now if the other employees went to op and asked about the job that would be different.
Ice to hear “Screw you Rick” lol. I had a Rick too and every time you mention him you remind me about that douche bag and so….Screw you Henrietta. Dang that felt goog!

Why must all work related activities be done on the clock? Because of liability. If you get injured in any way on the property and you're not on the clock, the company could claim you were trespassing and shouldn't have been there and then the injury is on you. If they called you in, get on the clock as soon as you arrive.
Rob on the last story could you imagine if most of the staff turns in the company for the forced meetings being unpaid and most all of the other shady illegal and unethical stuff being turned into the government wouldn’t that be like 3 pit bulls chewing on their bare bakesides

Yeah almost any job can be great or complete shit it always depends on who your boss is. I mean, there's a few jobs which are just always gonna be bad, based on personal preference. Like, I personally would never enjoy working in a hospital because it's just always a very stressful and exhausting environment, but some people like such things. Mandatory meeting at unpaid time? Yeah, nah, I'm gonna just assume that I'm excluded from that until I recieve payment. Not gonna let any employer control how I spend my time without compensation.
Using your personal credit card doesn't mean you own the domain names. He would have had to fill the paperwork out in his own name to give himself ownership. There's enough nonsense in this story to make me doubt any of it is true.
Second one is full of it. He was told repeatedly to return to his usual tasks. He should be fired, but knows his employer is in a tough spot. OP is the pompous one here. Also he's kind of an idiot, since, even though no one else is applying for his job, his own refusal to do it means there's no reason to keep paying him anyway.
14:31, "If you stay with Us I can give you large Raise", and you havent done this before BECAUSE? 15:14, Obviously he didnt need more people before, he had you as his Wipping boy, so why get more he needed to Train.
Good Morning Rob...another GREAT video. I just cannot get enough of your videos and look forward to every new one. I asked you about your new, updated chameleon a few days ago and you responded, but I didn't get a chance to reply to your response. You said you created the new chameleon(s) using AI and I have to tell you, I am exceedingly impressed. You did an awesome job and I love the three dimensional look to the chameleons and the backgrounds behind them. I almost always have other applications running while listening to your videos, but I have RUclips running in a split-screen setup. From my peripheral vision, I swear it looks like the chameleon is going to come out of the screen and plop down on my computer desk...I love it :). I also wanted to mention the backgrounds you are using while the individual stories are being narrated. I have always been a fan of Impressionistic art (Manet, Degas, Monet, Van Gogh, etc.) and your new(er) backgrounds remind me of Impressionism. As a result, I have the calming, cool, and hazy Impressionistic backgrounds in my peripheral vision when the chameleon is resting up for his spots between videos. Although I enjoyed your videos before, they are even better now and I wanted to take a couple minutes to let you know I (and I am sure other subscribers/listeners) enjoy our videos even more than I did before. Keep up the good work Rob...you have a forever-fan in me (God I hope that doesn't sound cringe or like I'm in stalker mode...not my intention at all).
30 minute meeting that is unpaid. I am very sorry.. I might have attended that meeting.. But I was very likely not paying attention or listening to a word said in that meeting. I'm here.. but its not work related as I am not being paid for that time. Pay me to listen.. Don't pay me to retain nothing.
story 1: sadly NO you cannot keep those domain names for a lot more money. There's a thing called brand protection. This prevents people from taking sites such as ebay or microsoft. In general, most companies will prefer to just give a small amount for the domain name as it saves them a lot of trouble, but legally, they could simply "take" the names through court. However... Because the manager instructed the employee to put it on HIS name, that'd complicate things. As it essentially means that the company has given the rights to the name. So while he cannot keep the name legally, he'd most likely NEED to be compensated for it.
I just gotta say, that i appreciate that you've made your voice slightly less accented with that snarky tone that is apparently your signature. It works well now and was nearly unbearable before.
That was pretty good advice you gave on that last story but the fact is if you go to wage an hour not only will you get paid for every one of those unpaid sections but you also get a whistleblower's fee you will get 10% of everybody else's back pay on top of that and 10% of the fine put money in your pocket while teaching your boss a lesson

16:02 If I were OP I would refer people even if I got paid a bonus or not for doing so just to screw over the old fart of a boss.
.25 cents. Not 25 cents, 0.25 cents.
Using your personal credit card doesn't mean you own the domain names. He would have had to fill the paperwork out in his own name to give himself ownership. There's enough nonsense in this story to make me doubt any of it is true.
as for sally dress for the job you want i would have come in dressed as one of the Straw Hat pirates from One Piece.
Woot
14:31, "If you stay with Us I can give you large Raise", and you havent done this before BECAUSE?
15:14, Obviously he didnt need more people before, he had you as his Wipping boy, so why get more he needed to Train.
*Nice
Also love the new format. But try to find photos somewhat relevant, similar or relative to to the story being told.
Photos have relevance to first link in description.
Why do these always sound like they are written by the same person.
Keep up the good work Rob...you have a forever-fan in me (God I hope that doesn't sound cringe or like I'm in stalker mode...not my intention at all).
what does op mean?

Every honest restaurant I've heard of tips are shares because Busboys and cooks don't get tips directly but do a big share of the work.
Why the loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong delays from the videos?
I've got a few other things in the works. Videos should be every other day going forward for a bit
I just gotta say, that i appreciate that you've made your voice slightly less accented with that snarky tone that is apparently your signature. It works well now and was nearly unbearable before.
God I want to know the cosplay
I like the posts, but do we really need the sneering inflection? I can only listen to this a few minutes at a time.
Is anyone else having an issue seeing KCC videos on their feed? I have the bell selected as "all" and KCC videos just dont show up :(
Out side of work. You're not ones boss. 😂
Good day eh 😊
