The orcas in this video are Vigga and Yaka! The two got along surprisingly well for orcas belonging to different ecotypes. Not much is known about Vigga but there’s more info on Yaka, she lived in captivity for about 28-27 years. she is one of the 12 members of A Pod that were captured in Pender Habour on December 11th, 1969. Corky 2( or just Corky) is believed to be her cousin and only lived about 30 miles from Yaka at MarineLand. I’ve never seen footage of Marine World Africa so Thank you for posting and preserving! although Grimm this footage was taken before Yaka’s death (I’m assuming spring/summer) as Yaka would pass away in October of 1997. She was estimated at 29 years old. Vigga lived a few years longer and passed away on August 14, 2000.
I used to work there and can attest to the care and love they received. If they didn't want to perform, they were not forced. It was explained to the audience, who were amazingly understanding. When any of the animal became too old or infirm to perform, they were retired to a sanctuary to live out their life in peace and relative freedom. Truth be told, these animals (all of them) were either born in captivity, or raised around people to the point where they actually looked forward to the human interaction.
I so miss animals like Tasha and Samson. The LOVE you all had for them was NOTHING like any other place had. Use to be a season pass holder from the year it came to Vallejo to the year we moved in 2002. Seen Libery born and so much more. We loved the animals there so much from Kimmy the tigger to Yakka....@RhondaHeyns

Always found it weird they would play the Jurassic Park theme. Could they not secure the rights to Free Willy?
i may dearly hope this disgusting animal abuse is something of the past. if not humans are horrid beeings.
Sadly there are a lot of selfish human beings...
It is. The park hasn't had whale shows since 2012.

This is abuse those whales aren’t toys and they’re not for human entertainment. This is cruel.

The park got rid of its whale shows years ago.
