Congratulations, you just found the most talented metal band to come along in decades. In their first five years of existence, they put themselves on par with the greatest bands of metal’s golden age. If they are not your thing, then you probably simply don’t like melodic metal, because they are the best at it. They recently went on a year-and-a half hiatus while they waited out the pandemic and searched for a new bassist, after their founder and original bassist left the band for personal reasons. They announced the new bassist in October 2022 (see below) and dropped their first new song on December 22. Their new album, “Judgement Day”, was released two months later. They did their first live performances in more than two years in summer of 2023, with their new bassist Fami. Their very first show was commemorated on the DVD “Knocking on Heaven’s Gate”. Many people who watched the music video for this song thought it would be difficult to recreate this in a live performance. But they did it.😍 About "Glory To The World" guitarist Midori and Vocalist Asami says of the song. When Midori came to the U.S. and between tours in the U.K., Midori found time to visit his local church many times. It was then that Midori strongly felt the power of church music and the energy of the people. When she composed and arranged "Glory To The World," Midori made it into a powerful song. In an interview for a magazine project, Midori commented, "The world is going through a difficult time right now, and I hope this song can push people back. LOVEBITES was also in a difficult situation where they could not hold live concerts, but Asami went directly to the members' homes to get hints on how to write lyrics. And Asami commented, "Member all felt that we wanted to write lyrics and songs that would be close to the feelings of various people. Asami and Midori both have experience singing gospel songs in church, so their senses matched.

You never know when a ticket might come available, like at the venue the day of the event. These Asian female bands of all kinds are FIRE; rock/metal/funk/jazz-pop fusion. You can dig this hole from now on. Another one coming to ATL in October is Atarashii Gakko at The Eastern venue. Totally different thing from Band-Maid and LOVEBITES. Dance pop.

I'm a 55 years old dude having listened to rock/metal all of his life and since 95% of this rock/metal has been made by men, I have always wanted to have a favorite band with only women. Now I have two all female favorite bands and I am so happy. Fame and glory to these Japanese women who make me speechless every single time!
You're absolutely right! The five rock the world! Here was a recording with the old formation, Miho on bass, now the no less talented youngster Fami plays this instrument for Lovebites. I've been to Japan a few times now, but I haven't yet found this mighty tree that grows such extraordinarily great musicians! As I wrote above, Miho/Fami on bass, together with the incredibly great, almost equally reserved Haruna on drums. Haruna now also has the affectionate fan name "little big engine", anyone who has seen her live knows why(!) She is incredibly good and fast on the drums! Bass and drums provide the foundation for performance. And now we come to the M-Pack, two guitarists, which couldn't be more unfair for other bands - Midori (mostly blonde hair on stage) and Miyako - a guitar duo for decades and - the world is so unfair - Miyako's skills on the grand piano, well worth listening to - oh, did I mention that she also composes most of the music for Lovebites?! And then there is a voice that manages to assert itself, assert itself and shine above all the musical power on stage and in the studio - Asami, the voice. Dignified movement with great text ideas - Asami writes most of the lyrics for Lovebites' music. That was a little introduction to the Lovebites universe - it's always worth browsing here! @@manchieffilms Easy answer: Hard Rock is based on Blues progressions and simple melodies. Of then it has pentatonic scales (5 notes per scale). Or Blues scales which have 6 notes. While Metal is based on minor scales and modes. which are heptatonic which are 7 note scales. Minor scales are easiliy noted because they have an emotional weight to them. And Metal songs tend to be vastly more complex. Usually Hard rock has a rhytym guitar and a lead guitar, in metal there is often dual lead guitars, with more complex and faster soli! The main difference is that Metal is faster and the Lyrics are about public things, while Rock is more melodic and the lyrics are about personal things, mostly sex in a round about way. Metal is bone crunching music so to speak.
@@manchieffilms The simplest way of thinking about it is heavy metal is (typically) heavier and faster (and more complex) than hard rock. But there is so much variation within musical genres (and some songs even blend musical genres), that it is not always possibly to indisputably classify a particular song. Band Maid have some songs that to my ear, do sneak into heavy metal territory - but overwhelmingly, their catalogue fits within the hard rock genre.

They take much of their inspiration from the British and European metal bands of the 70's and 80's such as Iron Maiden, Metallica and Judas Priest. One of the founding members, Miho, is a big fan of Steve Harris, bass player with Maiden. They were formed in 2016 by Miho and Haruna, who both had been members of an earlier band, Destrose, which broke up in 2015. There are many Japanese rock and metal bands that are worth your time seeking out. Band Maid have been in existence longer than Lovebites. They are not really in competition, Band Maid are more Rock, Lovebites more Metal. There were 3 members of Lovebites in the audience for Band Maids 10th anniversary concert in Yokohama last year. I think we can say they are friends and respect each other. The members of Lovebites are, Asami, Vocals and Piano. She trained as a Ballet Dancer and before Lovebites was a R&B singer. Writes many of the lyrics and sings in English. Midori, Guitar. The blond 'Amazon Warrior'. She is a body builder and has scored highly in competitions. Miyako. Guitar, Piano and Keyboards. The one with long black hair. A classically trained pianist, she composes much of the bands music, often incorporating themes from classical music into her compositions. Both guitarists play lead, swapping back and forth lead and rhythm. Their harmonised solos are a wonder to behold. Haruna, Drums. Nicknamed 'Little BIG Engine' due to her diminutive size, 1.4 meters tall, and her relentless speed and precision over concerts that can be up to near two hours long. Miho, Bass Guitar. Co founder along with Haruna. Miho left the band in late 2021 due to personal reasons. The band then went on hiatus with Miyako and Asami both having babies (Miyako is several months pregnant in this video. she played the near two hour concert without a break, a tough lady) They recruited a replacement bass player in 2022 in the form of then 20 year old Fami, performing the first concert with her in the line up in March 2023. Fami has her own YT channel with nearly 700,000 subs. A few recommendations for further listening. This was not Asami's own wish, but a request from the other band members. The band members wore white stage costumes, which had been taboo in the metal scene up to that point. Although this costume risked isolating them, they dared to choose a white feminine costume, saying, "Even if we are treated as lone wolves, we will do what we want to do," and made the wolf the symbol of the band. The humans who were bitten by the LOVEBITES then began to call themselves the Wolf Pack.

I don't know why so many compare Band-Maid and Lovebites - one is rock and the other is metal. It's like comparing Metallica and Lynyrd Skynyrd just because they're from the US 😀 When it comes to metal, Lovebites is as good as it gets right now I think. When it comes to rock, I'd say Band-Maid and The Warning are high up there. Other female metal bands from Japan are Nemophila, Mary's Blood among many others.
nemophila , paradoxx , gacharic spin , aldious , east of eden , fate gear , paleneo , lonesome blue , scandal , silent siren are some more of the japanese girl groups out there. there are more too - the list goes on and on. they have been ruling the rock and metal world for about 15 years now but not a lot of people in the states were aware of them until recently. i found band maid in 2016 and lovebites in 2017. band maid has been around for 11 years and lovebites for 7. my 71 year old brain has been awakened musically once more by these beautiful ladies. lovebites is my favorite band by far and as good as the others are imo lovebites simply blows away the competiton. a supergroup if there ever was one. glad i lived long enough to see this !

To answer your question, Band-Maid/Lovebites are two different styles of music: one is hard rock, the other heavy metal and more. Hard to compare. But in my opinion, hard rock is less technical and less fast. To be technical while being very fast requires much greater skill when you're playing Lovebites. I think Lovebites can play Band-Maid easily, but the opposite, I doubt.

Lovebites and Band-maid are friends and maybe friendly competitors, but really play on different fields, as others have mentioned. You asked if there are other female metal bands out there? Damn right there are. There are dozens, and since 1970 there have been at least 600. Japanese metal is on an incredible roll, especially the women, who are kicking ass on an epic scale. Another great band you should check out, if you haven’t already, is Bridear. Founded in 2011, they were in the second wave of all-female heavy-metal bands. They have the classic twin-lead attack and technical rhythm section. Their tiny bassist even growls at key moments. They’re scheduled to release their new album “Born Again” on June 28, and it’s a banger. They have gone through some changes but have always kept their hard, heavy, technical sound. Band Maid has been around 10 years, Love Bites I think 7 years. Love Bites Members wereat the 10 th anniversery concert in Yokahama for Band Maid so I would say they are respectful. As far as I know the Japanes do not disrespect each other Like US Bands have done over the years.

To many fans of Japanese metal and hard rock, Lovebites are part of the Big Four of all-female bands: Lovebites, Band-Maid, Nemophila, and Hanabie. All four are great, and all sound so different from each other that anyone's favorite will be strictly a matter of their musical preference. Can't go wrong with any of them. Personally, I like several other bands in this subgenre just as much, but this little musical niche captured me in a big way a few years back, so I'm not the most unbiased of voices here. ;) But I can also recommend Hagane, PaleNe0, KOIAI, Ark Royal, Paradoxx, icontinew, TRiDENT, Whiskey Dust, and a host of others as having something to get your head banging and put a smile on your face.

I just wished they did more of that because all of the other stuff I heard from them is slower and softer with an emphasis on the vocals. If you are looking for another all girl group and you haven't seen them yet, try The Warning. They are a trio of sisters from Mexico. I recommend anything from the Teatro Metropolitan concert or Evolve from the MTV music awards. They are different from Lovebites, less metal, more rock, and they are very good.
Lovebites and Band-Maid are equals in talent and musicianship. They play different genres so some will prefer one over the other because of the type of music they play.

LOVEBITES are perfection. Yes there is more all female bands in Japan. But they are nothing compared to LOVEBITES. At list actual bands, maybe in the past.
Band-Maid came out in 2013, and LOVEBITES in 2016 (first recording in 2017). They don't dress the same. LOVEBITES has a white/gold dress them kind of patterned on Greek Goddesses. Band-Maid wears maid outfits. In terms of skill, they are very comparable to each other, though they play in two different musical worlds, one is hard rock, one is metal. Band-Maid is one of the best, if not THE best hard rock bands going, while LOVEBITES is one of the best metal bands out there. Of course, when it comes to virtuosity, Band-Maid has far less competition in the rock world (which isn't exactly known for its plethora of virtuoso musicians) than LOVEBITES has in the metal world.

In their first five years of existence, they put themselves on par with the greatest bands of metal’s golden age. If they are not your thing, then you probably simply don’t like melodic metal, because they are the best at it.
They recently went on a year-and-a half hiatus while they waited out the pandemic and searched for a new bassist, after their founder and original bassist left the band for personal reasons. They announced the new bassist in October 2022 (see below) and dropped their first new song on December 22. Their new album, “Judgement Day”, was released two months later.

About "Glory To The World" guitarist Midori and Vocalist Asami says of the song.
When Midori came to the U.S. and between tours in the U.K., Midori found time to visit his local church many times.
It was then that Midori strongly felt the power of church music and the energy of the people.
When she composed and arranged "Glory To The World," Midori made it into a powerful song.
In an interview for a magazine project, Midori commented, "The world is going through a difficult time right now, and I hope this song can push people back.
LOVEBITES was also in a difficult situation where they could not hold live concerts, but Asami went directly to the members' homes to get hints on how to write lyrics.
And Asami commented, "Member all felt that we wanted to write lyrics and songs that would be close to the feelings of various people.
Asami and Midori both have experience singing gospel songs in church, so their senses matched.

You never know when a ticket might come available, like at the venue the day of the event. These Asian female bands of all kinds are FIRE; rock/metal/funk/jazz-pop fusion. You can dig this hole from now on. Another one coming to ATL in October is Atarashii Gakko at The Eastern venue. Totally different thing from Band-Maid and LOVEBITES. Dance pop.

I'm a 55 years old dude having listened to rock/metal all of his life and since 95% of this rock/metal has been made by men, I have always wanted to have a favorite band with only women. Now I have two all female favorite bands and I am so happy. Fame and glory to these Japanese women who make me speechless every single time!

You're absolutely right! The five rock the world! Here was a recording with the old formation, Miho on bass, now the no less talented youngster Fami plays this instrument for Lovebites. I've been to Japan a few times now, but I haven't yet found this mighty tree that grows such extraordinarily great musicians!
As I wrote above, Miho/Fami on bass, together with the incredibly great, almost equally reserved Haruna on drums. Haruna now also has the affectionate fan name "little big engine", anyone who has seen her live knows why(!) She is incredibly good and fast on the drums!
Bass and drums provide the foundation for performance. And now we come to the M-Pack, two guitarists, which couldn't be more unfair for other bands - Midori (mostly blonde hair on stage) and Miyako - a guitar duo for decades and - the world is so unfair - Miyako's skills on the grand piano, well worth listening to - oh, did I mention that she also composes most of the music for Lovebites?! And then there is a voice that manages to assert itself, assert itself and shine above all the musical power on stage and in the studio - Asami, the voice. Dignified movement with great text ideas - Asami writes most of the lyrics for Lovebites' music. That was a little introduction to the Lovebites universe - it's always worth browsing here! Be sure to see Lovebites live - if you get the chance - it will be an impressive pleasure - for sure!

Before LOVEBITES, all the ladies except Asami (lead vocals) played in various famous Japanese metal bands. Midori (guitar, blonde) and Miyako (guitar, brunette) were leaders in their previous bands. Therefore, when Miho (bassist) created LOVEBITES, the Japanese media called this band the 'first Japanese all-female metal Supergroup'.
BAND-MAID and LOVEBITES are completely different bands from each other. Therefore, it is incorrect to compare them. They play in different genres. BAND-MAID is basically pop rock mixed with hard rock.
LOVEBITES is mainly speed, thrash, progressive, power and neoclassical metal. With the addition of classical music (piano). And some elements of symphonic metal. The ladies themselves call themselves a heavy metal group. This name suits their music better. Because the music of LOVEBITES draws on the experience of the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal.
LOVEBITES are the GODDESSES of heavy metal ! In 2018 , LOVEBITES won the prestigious Metal Hammer GOLDEN GODS Award for 'Best New Band' (London,UK). That is, LOVEBITES were recognized as the 'Best New Band' that plays heavy music (in the whole World).

What is the difference between hard rock and metal. I’m still learning
@@manchieffilms Easy answer: Hard Rock is based on Blues progressions and simple melodies. Of then it has pentatonic scales (5 notes per scale). Or Blues scales which have 6 notes.
While Metal is based on minor scales and modes. which are heptatonic which are 7 note scales.
Minor scales are easiliy noted because they have an emotional weight to them. And Metal songs tend to be vastly more complex.
Usually Hard rock has a rhytym guitar and a lead guitar, in metal there is often dual lead guitars, with more complex and faster soli!
The main difference is that Metal is faster and the Lyrics are about public things, while Rock is more melodic and the lyrics are about personal things, mostly sex in a round about way.
Metal is bone crunching music so to speak.
@@manchieffilms The simplest way of thinking about it is heavy metal is (typically) heavier and faster (and more complex) than hard rock. But there is so much variation within musical genres (and some songs even blend musical genres), that it is not always possibly to indisputably classify a particular song. Band Maid have some songs that to my ear, do sneak into heavy metal territory - but overwhelmingly, their catalogue fits within the hard rock genre.

Lovebites are a five piece all female Japanese metal band. They take much of their inspiration from the British and European metal bands of the 70's and 80's such as Iron Maiden, Metallica and Judas Priest. One of the founding members, Miho, is a big fan of Steve Harris, bass player with Maiden. They were formed in 2016 by Miho and Haruna, who both had been members of an earlier band, Destrose, which broke up in 2015.
There are many Japanese rock and metal bands that are worth your time seeking out. Band Maid have been in existence longer than Lovebites. They are not really in competition, Band Maid are more Rock, Lovebites more Metal. There were 3 members of Lovebites in the audience for Band Maids 10th anniversary concert in Yokohama last year. I think we can say they are friends and respect each other.
The members of Lovebites are,
Asami, Vocals and Piano. She trained as a Ballet Dancer and before Lovebites was a R&B singer. Writes many of the lyrics and sings in English.
Midori, Guitar. The blond 'Amazon Warrior'. She is a body builder and has scored highly in competitions.
Miyako. Guitar, Piano and Keyboards. The one with long black hair. A classically trained pianist, she composes much of the bands music, often incorporating themes from classical music into her compositions.
Both guitarists play lead, swapping back and forth lead and rhythm. Their harmonised solos are a wonder to behold.
Haruna, Drums. Nicknamed 'Little BIG Engine' due to her diminutive size, 1.4 meters tall, and her relentless speed and precision over concerts that can be up to near two hours long.
Miho, Bass Guitar. Co founder along with Haruna.
Miho left the band in late 2021 due to personal reasons.
The band then went on hiatus with Miyako and Asami both having babies (Miyako is several months pregnant in this video. she played the near two hour concert without a break, a tough lady)
They recruited a replacement bass player in 2022 in the form of then 20 year old Fami, performing the first concert with her in the line up in March 2023.
Fami has her own YT channel with nearly 700,000 subs.
A few recommendations for further listening. Thunder Vengeance, M.D.O., Winds of Transylvania (written for a crazy Japanese Anime series Vlad Love) Frozen Serenade, Edge of the World, Epilogue, Swan Song with Chopin piano introduction played by Miyako.
Live performance videos from Lovebites are as good or, usually, better than music videos. Whatever you choose, if you enjoyed this, I don't think you will be disappointed. I regard Lovebites as one of the best bands I have heard in nearly 60 years of listening to rock and metal. They are just about to kick off a tour of Europe and make their North American debut at Atlanta in September. I'm going to see them play in London next week. 🐺

Now, the band boom in Japan started about 50 years ago with the Beatles' first concert in Japan. And female bands have also been active, led by SYOW-YA, which has been active from 1981 to the present, and one of the top groups is LOVEBITES.
They are characterized by their ability to seamlessly play various styles of metal and the fact that Asami, a former R&B/jazz singer, participates in the band without making any major changes in her singing style. This was not Asami's own wish, but a request from the other band members.

Here some information about them:
The band was formed in 2016 by original bassist Miho and drummer Haruna. Their first EP and album came out in 2017. So far LOVEBITES have released 4 albums, some Singles/EPs and also a bunch of DVD/Blu-ray live recordings.
Back in 2018/2019 LOVEBITES have already toured in Europe, including appearances at the major metal festivals as Wacken, Download, Bloodstock, Graspop. In 2018 they also won the Metal Hammer UK Golden Gods Award for best new band.
Then came covid, their original bass player and founder Miho quit the band for personal reasons and two babies were born. After a break LOVEBITES came back with new bassist Fami and new song „Judgement Day“ in late 2022. A new album with the same title came out in February 2023.
This year in June LOVEBITES‘ first world tour starts in Europe. In September they will play their biggest headline show ever in Tokyo. After that LOVEBITES will have their US debut …

Lovebites has their roots in classic heavy metal, thrash metal and power metal and Band-Maid is more rooted in hard rock with some progrock and punk elements in their music, you can't compare them. There are loads of great metal and rock bands from Japan.

I don't know why so many compare Band-Maid and Lovebites - one is rock and the other is metal. It's like comparing Metallica and Lynyrd Skynyrd just because they're from the US 😀
When it comes to metal, Lovebites is as good as it gets right now I think. When it comes to rock, I'd say Band-Maid and The Warning are high up there.
Other female metal bands from Japan are Nemophila, Mary's Blood among many others.

nemophila , paradoxx , gacharic spin , aldious , east of eden , fate gear , paleneo , lonesome blue , scandal , silent siren are some more of the japanese girl groups out there. there are more too - the list goes on and on. they have been ruling the rock and metal world for about 15 years now but not a lot of people in the states were aware of them until recently. i found band maid in 2016 and lovebites in 2017. band maid has been around for 11 years and lovebites for 7. my 71 year old brain has been awakened musically once more by these beautiful ladies. lovebites is my favorite band by far and as good as the others are imo lovebites simply blows away the competiton. a supergroup if there ever was one. glad i lived long enough to see this !

To answer your question, Band-Maid/Lovebites are two different styles of music: one is hard rock, the other heavy metal and more. Hard to compare. But in my opinion, hard rock is less technical and less fast. To be technical while being very fast requires much greater skill when you're playing Lovebites. I think Lovebites can play Band-Maid easily, but the opposite, I doubt.

The rabbit hole is deep... Obviously, I haven't listened to all of them (not by a long shot), but of the ones I've heard, my top three are Band-Maid, Lovebites and Nemophila. Lovebites and Band-maid are friends and maybe friendly competitors, but really play on different fields, as others have mentioned. You asked if there are other female metal bands out there? Damn right there are. There are dozens, and since 1970 there have been at least 600. Japanese metal is on an incredible roll, especially the women, who are kicking ass on an epic scale. Another great band you should check out, if you haven’t already, is Bridear. Founded in 2011, they were in the second wave of all-female heavy-metal bands. They have the classic twin-lead attack and technical rhythm section. Their tiny bassist even growls at key moments.
They’re scheduled to release their new album “Born Again” on June 28, and it’s a banger. They have gone through some changes but have always kept their hard, heavy, technical sound. They just posted a video single from the album: “Still Burning” ruclips.net/video/v7UOTBAtJh0/видео.html

Band Maid has been around 10 years, Love Bites I think 7 years. Love Bites Members wereat the 10 th anniversery concert in Yokahama for Band Maid so I would say they are respectful. As far as I know the Japanes do not disrespect each other Like US Bands have done over the years.
Tickets for Lovebites in Dallas, Los Angeles, and San Francisco in September have gone on sale and we expect more cities to be added to the US tour of their world tour I prefer Lovebites over all other all female bands out of Japan including Band Maid even though Band maid was out first Lovebites has been a band since 2016 when Destrose folded

To many fans of Japanese metal and hard rock, Lovebites are part of the Big Four of all-female bands: Lovebites, Band-Maid, Nemophila, and Hanabie. All four are great, and all sound so different from each other that anyone's favorite will be strictly a matter of their musical preference. Can't go wrong with any of them.
Personally, I like several other bands in this subgenre just as much, but this little musical niche captured me in a big way a few years back, so I'm not the most unbiased of voices here. ;) But I can also recommend Hagane, PaleNe0, KOIAI, Ark Royal, Paradoxx, icontinew, TRiDENT, Whiskey Dust, and a host of others as having something to get your head banging and put a smile on your face.
Are there any more all female bands from Japan...hmm. Na, none. 🤣 Yes, tons Nemophila, Hanabie, Fate Gear, etc. Assume you've heard of BabyMetal, not really all female band. Back to LOVEBITES, my favorite band of all time period. And I grew up in the US on 80s thrash metal. Nice reaction. Band-Maid formed before LOVEBITES. 🤘

@@SomethingToDo360 KOIAI has a lot of potential. I've listened to 4-5 of their songs. The link you posted is one of them and the intro has a great heavy metal sound. I just wished they did more of that because all of the other stuff I heard from them is slower and softer with an emphasis on the vocals. Nemophila, Lovebites, and Band-Maid are just as technically proficient/impressive as KOIAI.

If you are looking for another all girl group and you haven't seen them yet, try The Warning. They are a trio of sisters from Mexico. I recommend anything from the Teatro Metropolitan concert or Evolve from the MTV music awards. They are different from Lovebites, less metal, more rock, and they are very good.
Lovebites and Band-Maid are equals in talent and musicianship. They play different genres so some will prefer one over the other because of the type of music they play.

Band-Maid came out in 2013, and LOVEBITES in 2016 (first recording in 2017). They don't dress the same. LOVEBITES has a white/gold dress them kind of patterned on Greek Goddesses. Band-Maid wears maid outfits. In terms of skill, they are very comparable to each other, though they play in two different musical worlds, one is hard rock, one is metal. Band-Maid is one of the best, if not THE best hard rock bands going, while LOVEBITES is one of the best metal bands out there. Of course, when it comes to virtuosity, Band-Maid has far less competition in the rock world (which isn't exactly known for its plethora of virtuoso musicians) than LOVEBITES has in the metal world.
There are tons of bands in Japan in the same style. Not this high quality but western male bands should be worry....
