Mine is also an 02. I had my lock up clutch replaced in the torque converter at 70k miles and I believe it was on 75k at the time of the Ring. It's on 80k now and seems fine at the moment..... Touch wood :)
Thanks for sharing, well done vid. I have a 2012 that just received a new transmission. Not sure why it failed, no towing and not driven hard. Had around 68,000 miles. It has been a rewarding drive on road trips.
If that dinging noise is from you hitting 75mph that thing seems to get up and go pretty decently for a 6000lb suv, which is good to see. I'm considering getting a 03' 4.6is, It's in pretty fantastic shape inside and out. 83k miles, black on black, I already have some semi sporty cars for when I have the itch to go fast. But the 4.6is will be both practical and decently fast for what it is.
you had stock discs and brake pads or something else? did you have overheating problem and loosing brakes? i have that problem on my stock 4.8is and thinking about changing to slotted discs all around... AND what was coming up on cluster during ride, i can gong going off...
i am impressed . Such a heavy beast and still able to take off sport cars:) but i will ask similar question , i have a bmw x5 e53 2003 4.4 model, and my x5 has exactly same transmission , and the question is , how well this transmission handle engine torgue? because zf5hp24 can handle input torgue 440nm and 4.4 m62 has exactly 445nm , and 4.6 has 480nm or something like that so 5hp24 transmission probably will die faster .
Thanks Cezar :) I have since sold the X5 I think it was on around 90k miles when I sold it. It was fine up until that point. As you can probably see from the video the car didn't always have the easiest life. I did change the engine oil when recommended and also did have the gearbox fluid changed at the time of the lock up clutch which I now think was caused by towing wear. I don't know that much about the gearbox's apart from what you have said in regards to them being used in both models but from my personal experiences they are pretty solid boxes. I also had my X5 remapped which increased the torque ever so slightly I think the tuner said it was around 500-515nm cant remember exactly. So I think you need not worry :)
so this is some kind of proove that zf5hp24 can handle a lot more torgue , and thanks for information , i was really thinking to by a 4.6 model but at the same time i was affraid about the trensmission and engine a bit because , engine is almost same as 4.4 it has same vanos but with a bit different timing , and i got my 4.4 in one finger i mean knowledge about the 4.4 vanos and everything , but i wasnt been so sure about the 4.6 . Now i know something more about the transmission a bit , thanks again
this vid caused me to purchase a 4.6is.....thanks for that!
Old post, but amazing! Pushing that beast like it was designed for!! Nice job!!
This beast was actually developed on the nurburgring

Thanks! No it's not factory, It has the resonator delete with an X-Pipe in it's place. The rear boxes are custom made by a local exhaust shop.
on its mother road, love you bro best car ever and forever

Great vid! Thanks for sharing, I recently purchased a 2002 4.6is. Is your suspension stock ??
+AngryPistons Thanks! Yes totally stock suspension. :) Enjoy your X5!
nice
is your transmission still ok after this?, I have an 02 4.6is with 122k miles and am scared to death to drive it a little harder.

Which one is better 4.6is or 4.8is
That's what I want to know.
Where you in auto or semi auto?

Tranmission is different than the 4.4. Larger torque converter, and extra clutch plate on 3rd gear, etc.
¿VELOCIDAD MAXIMA?
