Word kaluwara(කළුවර) means darkness. This song is about how hidden darkness of humans affects on huminity/society. That darkness is what we covered from from ethics,culture and laws. This storyline shows how this inhumane sexual desires, desires to dominate, selfishness and self oriented feelings of human affects on a child and he becomes the representation and symbol of this human dark side. The boy who was a son of a prostitute/raped women was abandoned on street and grew up on child shelters and humiliated, fear of light, he is used like a sponge to absorb the poison of society. Then he becomes a rapist and the symbol of darkness. And this cycle repeats.
This lyrics,music and video is inspired from sinhalese folklore. Kalukumaraya (කළුකුමාර) - The black(dark) prince devil, some times a god is the representation of this human darkside in sinhalese society. It is very common law in sinhalese society to teen girls who just had first menstruations not to see and seen by any males or not to go out from the house for a week and not to go outside after dusk because they can be a prey of kalukumara devil. Which means can be raped or sexually harassed by someone. If someone get a situation like this there is a process called shanthikarma (ශාන්තිකර්ම) -
Shanthi- well being karma- doing . This song is inspired by shanthikarma poems/songs/chantings from kalu kumara samayama( කළුකුමාර සමයම) (i'm not sure exactly) This chanting part and folk drum which is called Yak beraya( Devil's drum) is from Southern country's shanthikarma and some poetic phrases from up country's folk songs. This song is a lyrical masterpiece. This lyrics combines the folklore and modern society's representation of it. And also music and singing do the same. This dress code and color combination is also inspired by shanthikarma and bali yaga.(here you can feel that rage in music and singing) This lyrics is about how this darkness popups in society.
This is some of my personal thoughts on this song's background and this song very deeply points out some facts about how human desires makes them inhumane. With knowledge from folklore and sri lankan culture.
P.s- the song name also has a second meaning. Kalu-darkness wara- opportunity to get or become. This concept also goes with kalu kumara uppaththiya ( birth of black prince) story

The song based on a demon called "Kalu Kumaraya " which is " Black (Dark) Prince " and it is a very famous mythological story in Sri Lanka. There is a story behind the birth of that demon. One handsome boy was raped by a queen and the boy suicided. Then he became the demon who attacks only to girls. In this song with basing that story, it shows the cycle of birthing rappers.

This songs tells about the dark spirit of black prince also known as kalu kumaras' life story.
Woow you did understand the message behind the story. Amazing.
Side story: Sri lankans believe this Devil( kalu kumaraya) attacks women, and sexually use her. So women not allowed to go out alone in the dark.this is a origin story of Kalu kumaraya. The message is very clear though, Bad things in society Makes devils.
This music is unique. Mix of Traditional drums and western instruments. That Mysterious sounds I love it. Lyrics is completely metoforcle even Some Sri lankans cannot understand the meaning.

According to sri lankan peoples There is a myth called as "The Black Prince".he is a devil which appear near water sources after the sunset when woman bathing from water sources.people in villages said that it is not good to see this devil for a girl or woman.(in the end you will see that this persin appear from that water when that woman bath from it)
Even if the character of the black prince is a myth among people, as told in this song, that character is real. But he is not a devil. The black prince is a man like us. This society creates this demon who hates women.
1.)The love of the woman called mother is lost at a young age.
2.)later gets molested by a woman
3.)the person he loved in his heart has an affair with someone else.
A man who falls mentally because of these events becomes a character who naturally hates women. We call him the Black Prince.
That is the true meaning of this song.
It's actually a cycle, at the ending it shows how that women got into that situation. (how did she get pregnant.) The boy is the one that will make her pregnant. it's a never ending cycle.

Here 'Kaluwara' ('Darkness') refers to the :Kalu Kumaraya (The Dark Prince) legend' which is an old Sri Lankan myth about a deamon who preys on young girls. The legend tells about a young prince from the ancient times. However, here, Sajitha tries to retell to the ancient legend by giving it a more modern approach.
It discusses modern problems like abandoning children at birth (which was a huge problem in Sri Lanka in the past few decades) and sex trafficking.
Everyone is born into this world with some kind of underline darkness/evil within them. This shows how deeply the society can enhance that inner darkness and how the society can make a villain out of an innocent being.

As per my understanding, what they have done in this video is that giving a modern interpretation to the concept of black prince. The things they've shown in the video are the things that could happen to a boy in today's world which can convert an innocent boy to a hater of the whole womenkind. So he would use the girls only to fulfill his sexual desires same as the black prince in the folk stories.
This is a video based on Sri Lankan folklore called "Kalu kumara". According to the story, "Kalu Kumara" is a demon. This shows how he became a demon. Legend has it that he was attracted to women and lonely wanderers on lonely streets. Some believe he still wanders today.
