My son and I just installed a 30 amp outlet on the side of my shop for my RV. Watch You Tube tutorials. You must wire in a 110 breaker in the electrical box. NOT a 220 breaker.
It also means that they would have to put a different plug on their welder. 🤔 How can I save some money and use these spare parts I found lying around…
Each time. Every time. We'll have customers ask "why do I need one of those?" I always say "Well if you got something like a new laptop for a few hundred bucks, then you'd plug it into a surge guard, right? Well then what about your new RV for potentially tens of thousands of dollars? You would also want that protected, right?" At that point usually the answer is pretty obvious
This is exactly my problem today in a rented RV in my driveway while the termite exterminators are tenting my house! So far, my ricemaker went POP, and the over-the-stove microwave died. I can't get the owner of the RV to listen to me that welder plug just shown is a mistake! When she comes by today with an "adapter" she just got overnighted to herself (I have no idea what she's talking about), should I suggest she plug the RV into a 110v outlet on the side of the garage? I only need lights and the fridge in the RV. The weather is good, no need for ac or anything big.
🤓 I have a tip for RV owners: don’t assume, ask. I believe we all know what assuming does. That’s right, it burns up your RV😂. Admit it, you thought I was going to write something else.
I had a buddy that almost did that at his farm he had an old shop that had a 30 amp plug in with an old plug in. He decided to get a new 30 amp rv outlet box and wired it outside so he could plug his camper in. Lucky for him that I was visiting him that day just before he went to plug it in and I asked him if it was a 240 setup or a 120? He wasn't sure and luckily his brother-in-law came over and used his multimeter and found out that it was a 240 amp for an old Lincoln welder. I've since bought one myself and check to make sure that the polarity is correct before I plug in, especially important to do for a private campground. I've found twice now that it was hooked up wrong. I paid under 75 for my multimeter and it has already saved me thousands of dollars. All you do is put one in the neutral (top hole) and the left and it will read your voltage if it is connected correctly. If it reads zero try the right side and if it reading the proper voltage then they hooked it up in reverse. If it does read correctly I still use my adapter cord just in case there is a power surge or brown out. Buying a new adapter cord is a lot cheaper than rewiring your trailer and/or replacing you electronics if they are fried.
This video saved my brand new geo pro - my electrician put in a 220 - and I wouldn’t have known it. Watched this video and called him - he came right away and changed it. If it’s a dual pull it’s probably 220 but regardless you have to check the voltage if you don’t know wiring. Thank god I watched this today!!!
I just did the same, only I’m the electrician. The only 30 amp single pole breakers I’ve ever installed were for well pumps, had no clue about rv’s. I’m heading down tomorrow to see how much it’s going to cost me.

I almost blew up my camper wiring, I plugged in my surge protector and when I got a red light we figured out the problem before plugging in the camper. Total life saving device!
I have wired in several of those plugs over the years with it's own 30A single pole breaker for when family visits or if I visited them. Whoever did that plugging in should have asked the house owner or called before trying to just plug in to a box. Takes just a second to do simple things to not burn down a trailer or house.

You have to eliminate one of the hot sides. .....................................................YOU DA MAN MR NERD..........................................
It's been said before, but I'll say it again, always, always check the outlet first with a surge protector before plugging in your RV. It's also good to check the electrical before unhooking your RV and then find out the outlet is bad and you have to move.
Wholly crap! Now that's super scary! Thanks for the safety tip! I never even gave that a thought. I've never plugged into anything but a campground plug. And now I might never plug into anything other than a campground type pedistal. Thanks Uncle Josh!

Cool story but not physically possible that a camper 120 30 amp cord would fit in a 220 30 amp outlet. Nice try
Thanks 4 da tip buddy but ....U are starting to drive me absolutely crazy!!😑
How’s that??
Please don't get me wrong, but your snippet kept playing over n over. YES, MY FAULT! I WANTED MORE OF NEW YOU, NOT SNIPPET RE-RUNS! I have learned many things from you! I thank you, I respect your point of view, I would trust buying from you. I am in MN I thought about truly buying from you. Now you will be doing something else, which I didn't hear you say! Maybe you didnt? I believe your Brother will do an excellent job also!
I am selling my home, which is too big for me, I then plan on a lot of travel! Water to water.
This video is based on his own ignorance there is no way a 30 amp plug is the same as a 220
