    Hi Miriam,
    Is it still chic to arrive late to the party, or, in this case, late to watching and commenting? I'm taking some time now to play catch on the videos I've missed. My current art project is complete so now I have a few days to focus on villaging. I'm currently focusing on the background areas as it's easier to set that part up first before setting up the actual village. The ideas are swirling and notes are being taken. I had to stop at JoAnn Fabrics after work to get a bit of material. Wanted some fabric that looked like water. Of course we had none at the store, but I found a lovely batik that should do the trick.
    That Hot Wire tool is one of the best investments anyone can make when using styrofoam to create with. All the extra time taken to sand, layer the paints and highlight the snow really does take the wall to a whole new level and is well worth it. Can't wait to see your future creations. Wishing all the best to you and yours.

      Hi Lloyd, it is always better late than never! 😃. Glad to hear from you and glad to know you are doing well. I am waiting on my stand to come before I can put up my backdrop too! It should be here on Monday and I can’t wait.
      Glad you were able to find a substitute that you liked. I wanted to get to Joanna to check out what they have for a night sky that I could use as a backdrop but I ended up ordering one online.
      Thanks for the compliments on the rock wall. Talk soon!

      Do you have a channel also? I would love to check you out. Villaging and model railroading share a lot of similarities although I do feel like model railroading is vastly more detailed. Because the two things are similar enough in nature, there are always great tips we can learn from each other.

    Hi Miriam. I found a way to do this without extending cardboard past the 2 sides of the Styrofoam front. If you place Styrofoam on top of the top wood, and extend it by 2 inches (using 2 inch thick foam) hanging over the front of the board, it becomes the top and then just glue cardboard on the back of the front foam where it will meet the legs, you can just glue the top of the front to the bottom of the top Styrofoam. It worked well for me and eliminated the extra dressing on the 2 front corners. I can show pics if you are interested.

    Miriam I really enjoy your videos. On some you say not to paint right on the styrofoam and to use plaster tape. Is there a certain time when you use plaster tape and plaster or just black wash it right on the bare styrofoam?

    • @MiriamsManner
      @MiriamsManner  2 года назад

      Hello, thanks so much!! 😁
      You can use regular paint directly on styrofoam. You just can’t use spray paint on regular styrofoam. Spray paint will eat away at the styrofoam and cause it to melt away. If you plaster your styrofoam, then you can spray paint it.
      Black is always the first color I use when painting any project. If I have plastered the piece I am painting, then I will use black spray paint because it saves a lot of time. If I haven’t plastered the piece, then I make a black wash with regular craft paint.
      Does that answer your question?

      @@MiriamsManner yes thank you. I’m new to utube and didn’t realize how to get the notifications. I have been villaging many years and when I moved into a smaller apartment had to get creative so I put it above my cabinets so it could stay up all year. I’ve moved again and am able to put them above my cabinets but they were not really displayed to my liking. I realized that was because they had no backdrop. So this is my first year creating a backdrop. I just started si I’ll let you know how it goes. Your videos have been a godsend for me. Thank you so very much

    Hi Mariam! You are my tutor; I am your Christmas village student! Before I saw this video, I already had a stand very similar to yours that I need instead of the styrofoam platforms as it is going to be my train tunnel as well. My question is do you not do the sides with styrofoam as well and if you do, how do you cover up the cardboard on the corners?

    • @kingbingentertainment9628
      @kingbingentertainment9628 2 года назад

      Just to clarify, not looking for tunnel advise, just how to do sides and use that cardboard.

    • @MiriamsManner
      @MiriamsManner  2 года назад +1

      Hello, I use moss and snow to cover the cardboard. I use hot glue to attach both to the cardboard. I have a follow up to this video that shows the 2nd part of this tutorial.

    What is the need of the plaster of pParis?
    Is this needed whenever a wall is made

    • @MiriamsManner
      @MiriamsManner  2 года назад

      Hello Michelle, plaster of paris wasn't used in this video. You could use plaster of paris when you want to connect pieces of styrofoam of when you want to create different rock formations with styrofoam. You can glue the scrap pieces onto the styrofoam base and then cover them with the plaster of paris. This gives more dimension to your build. Does that answer your question?

    • @michellegamble65
      @michellegamble65 2 года назад

      1 more question....when you use your walls how do you attach them to your actual base? Do you glue them?
      Also...with your figurines...do you also glue them to your base so they don't tip over?
