I sold my Flint for the Zoma and regretted it. While there were some aspects of the Zoma I preferred, the Flint is still way more flexible and musical sounding. Just my 2 cents.

Oh no! It's funny cuz I really love the Zoma but the Flint is staying on my Acoustic board for those gigs. I guess this is all quite subjective.

What pickups are in the strat! Great comparison. The Zoma is a little more lively to my ears. Wish they had put a hall verb but I plan on getting it. I’ve had both versions of the flint and hydra. Loved them all. I like the form factor most on the zoma.

My only thing with the Zoma, and I’m no electrical engineer, so I don’t know the ins and outs. But why would they not give you the ability to switch each side independently? You can only have spring if the trem is set to bias? What if you want spring reverb with the harmonic trem? It’s a small detail, and maybe I’d never want to use the spring anyways, but it just seems like something where they could have just put one toggle switch for the reverb side, and one for the trem side, like the flint. Just a little nitpicky thing that I haven’t seen anyone comment on yet.

This didn't make sense to me either. I most frequently run harmonic trem with spring on my Flint. I dig the aesthetic of the Zoma, and I know Keely makes great gear. I just can't see giving up flexibility to make the change.

I feel ya! I never really think about it because I love his plate reverb so much it just kind of lives on Plate/ Harmonic Trem. The Hydra can do what you’re asking - people think it’s hard to understand stand but I don’t think so at all.

@@markhopkinsmusic yeah I had a Hydra at one point, it wasn’t that it was hard to use, just that for one it was hard to read the labels on stage, and I’m just not a preset guy, I like to know where all the knobs are set when I look down, which I think is great about the Zoma, just that one little issue of not being able to independently select the reverb and trem settings.

I love that jewel on the Zoma, but I do wish it had the infinite hold from the Hydra, or does it?

@@RyanMcQuen yeah I don’t think it has that function unfortunately.

I’m curious to know how the Zoma sounds with the decay all the way up on the plate setting. I love that kind of eternal decay sound on the Flint.

    • @markhopkinsmusic

I think I did that in my original ZOMA video - i love that lush sparkly drone too!

The Hydra instantly kicked the Flint off my board when it came out, mainly because of presets and the much better tremolo modes. I like the look of the Zoma, but the algorithms (that exist on both of them) sound similar or even identical to the Hydra to my ears. I might not 'get' what it adds other than what it lacks compared to the Hydra?

Agreed; maybe I need headphones to hear the nuance but I’m not getting much of a difference between Hydra and Zoma. That said, I thought both Keeley pedals smoked the Flint on the trem modes. I heard more ‘throb’ on the Flint, but it also sounded more…sterile? Just an opinion. Had a Flint for a short while as well and thought so in person. Was hoping it would replace my Harmonious Monk. The Monk is still on the board.

They’re basically the same pedal sound wise. Zoma is just the easier layout version. But man, Keeley sure knows how to dial in digital reverb!

@@markhopkinsmusicis there an improvement in the way the zoma inverts direction of reverb and tremolo compared to the hydra?
I only have the zoma so no idea there, on the delay front I have both the Halo and the Halo Core V2 now, one I use with a pirate midi controller’s Flexiports to drive presets and give them nice bright names in the display, this is preferable for me in the dark, or being able to flick through presets remotely and wirelessly from a flic2 button on my guitar.
This was a great little video, I agree Robert has absolutely been killing it in 2024. I have always relied on the helix and tc electronics plethora for midi controlled reverbs, have the Matthews effects traveller and the game changer light pedal for spring. All these do offer some form of remote control. The new lineup from Keeley is pretty much hands on approach and so far these things live in studio on the desk.
Keep up the good work mate.
