Yes! In my aviation class we rebuilt a PW R 2800 with the promise by our instructor that if we got it done in one school year we could start it up in the courtyard of the school and we did! Running that beast had all the windows rattling and the instructor almost got fired for it. ! 👍😎
I once flew into an airport in Turkmenistan (I think the name was Turkmembashi) and there were dozens of the An-2 planes in various stages of disassembly, as if it was a junk yard for An-2. Beside them were a few dozen of those small, 2 engine passenger aircraft. Most of them sitting on stacks of tires and again, in various stages of disassembly. To my surprise, one just like that landed and I boarded it to fly to Ashgabat. What a nail biting trip.
A B-17 flies out of the Yankee Air Museum (Willow Run Airport in Ypsilanti, Michigan) a couple of weekends a month. It sells rides to people and flies over our house. There is a distinctive sound those radials have. I can identify them in a moment.
The AN-2's procedure on engine out is to simply hold back on the control stick until it lands. It has NO stall speed due to it's huge biplane design. When it encounters a stiff headwind, you honestly can see the Colt standing still or can outwalk it on foot! If the wind is really bad, it could on occasion fly BACKWARDS! An outstanding design. The Pitts 12 is an insane design being an acrobatic aircraft, but the engine is poor. Bryan Jensen took the engine, handed it off to Tulsa's legendary engine shop, Barrett Precision, and told them to "go nuts". They replaced the carburetion with fuel injection and redid the reduction gearbox, tacking an additional 52HP (412HP) on to the prop! The airframe was reinforced with solid steel with carbon fiber, adding titanium and magnesium in key places. They say it's The Beast, they ain't kidding. Pitts planes are crazy as is this one topped the lot.
Grew up in Aeronca champ taylorcraft Cessna 150s and was around old snow n Pawnees alot love them all last plane was legend cub n532ak all in south texas
The Sea Fury might be inaccurate engine wise... but thats due to the rarity of the Bristol Centaurus sleeve valve radial engine. Greetings from Philadelphia, PA, USA.
Kukuruznik was not the AN2, it was a nickname of Polikarpov Po2 with 5-cylinder radial engine which sounded like corn seeds bumping on metal plate. Kukuruza in Russian means corn.
Every Pitts airplane is handmade by Aviat Aircraft in Afton, Wyoming, which is 70 NM due south of the Jackson Hole Airport. Aviat is the only aircraft manufacture in the State of Wyoming.
Can’t see why as the JU-52 is a low wing monoplane and is very consistent throughout the line and the Ford Trimotor was a high winged monoplane. Besides the courigated metal structure the 2 are as far apart as possible
@@matthewcaughey8898 I misremembered, it was the Ju-24 trimotor that the TriMotor lost the infringement lawsuit against, not the later Ju-52 trimotor. Lawsuit was caused when Ford tried to export their patent-infringing design to Europe. I DID correctly remember that it was a Junkers design involved.
I am watching a video about old radial aircraft engines being started, but first I am forced to watch an advertisement for a women’s hair coloring product. smh
Do you like these Radial Engines ?
Yes
Problematic. Too many moving parts.

I just like Piston Engines!!
The hills are alive with with the sound of MUSIC! If an aircraft engine could sound primal in nature, a radial would be the primal roar.
Inertia starter plus radial engine = goosebumps
Ich habe bis jetzt noch nie eine Antonov gesehen die beim ersten Versuch nicht startete ! Toller Pilot !!!😮😮😮

I love old airplanes because they are awesome

Nice of the guy in the hat to make sure he was in the frame for the Sea Fury footage.🙄
starting a radial is like waking up a grumpy old man - he may fuss and complain but once up will work hard and reliable.
_Thank you very much!_
_Very interesting and informative!_

What gets me about some of these aircaraft, drag car, indy car etc videos is it seems like there is always some fat bastard getting in the way.

I love hearing those engine start up

I think that's the same Ford Trimotor I rode in.
Love the. Wrexham- UK.
AN-2 was never named „kukuruznik”. The name concerned Polikarpow PO-2.
The Ford Tri-Motor was based on the Junkers Ju-52 - so closely it got hit with infringement and THAT is part of the reason Ford stopped making them.

Greetings from Wellington, New Zealand.
I like them better than your finger!
Definitely, mechanical jewelry.
Dromader isn’t an old engine…just a copy of R-1840 PTW…1000hp,….not very well done….leaks oil constantly…
Interesting I thought it was powered by the same engine as the AN-2. Learn something new every day.

smh
It is targeted advertising.😅🤣
