    Charlie nailed it really. The media dislikes jordies because he often reports things that are against the interests of the people who own the media companies. So he’ll point out all the ways the stories aren’t true, and those same people in the media will just shrug and say “who are you gonna believe, us, or the guy we’ve been constantly running negative press about for five years?”

    Normally, I don't tune into the Podcasts but since our little Aussie institution is guest starring in this week's episode, I had to tune in. Also, we Aussies do treat criminals here as folk heroes. Our nation was built on the backs of convicts so it makes sense. I tell you something else, my old primary school is right next door to a former active prison. I'm old enough to remember news crews showing up sometimes during school hours whenever there was a breakout or prison riot or something. The school yard was bordered on one side of the prison by this massive bluestone wall that was standing there since the 1850s. Too many sports balls were lost over that wall. This was the same prison once that had incarcerated Ned Kelly. The same prison that Mark "Chopper" Read once stayed in and had his ears cut off by a fellow inmate. Hell, one of my former writing teachers was incarcerated there in the 60s. Now, that prison is closed and much of it is repurposed as apartment housing... and I'm possibly looking for an apartment there. How times have changed.

    • @tiredfrog308
      @tiredfrog308 Год назад +10

      Honestly, it's pretty bloody heartbreaking. Can't do anything without gambling ads in your face. I know a bloke who tried to quit because it became an addiction. Still hasn't been able to fully quit because constantly being bombarded by pro-gambling propaganda sends him straight back into the spiral.

    • @DKS225
      @DKS225 3 месяца назад

      What makes it even more sick is that if/when a gambler has a medical issue say a heart attack and needs an ambulance the other players just keep on playing as if it never happened. I mean even now they have these tv ads for companies like Sportsbet which doesn't help anyone trying to overcome their addiction by the way plastering their ads all the time. And even those public service announcements should be at the front of those ads not after. That's my two cents worth.

However, I’ve always felt that you were genuine and honest, and nothing has ever changed that. He went to jail for about 5 years for robbery charges I think, and a guy in our neighbourhood fucked his girl while he was inside and was bridging up about it. When Span got out he bashed him and stabbed him in the throat and almost killed him. I think he was originally charged with attempted murder, and ended up being found guilty of maliciously inflict grievous bodily harm and did like 8 years or so. Can’t remember the exact details, but I saw it happen. He also tried to slash another guy up with a box cutter/razor and ended up slicing his own arm lol. He grabbed his shirt with his left arm, and slashed with his right, but the other lad pulled away at the right time and the blade slashed his own arm open. It was a massive gash. Blood all over the grass at the front of my house. He’s off his head.

    This is worth nothing im sure, but thank you for having Jordan on and helping him get more attention. We don't really have much else in Australia in regards to real journalism. Swollen Pickles and Kangaroo Court of Australia touch on these things also, but they get even less attention. I hope one day Jordan forms a news network and brings these people in.

    In Germany there are no jury trials however you are innocent until proven guilt and a trial usually three judges and sometimes two. Almost never one judge. One primary judge and two lay judges (jurors). Each judges vote is has equal importance. 2/3 votes is the conclusion for the trial.

    The thing jordies was saying about idolizing "crims" does not AT ALL apply to Jerry Seinfeld. That's a loyal fanbase loving a celebrity IN SPITE of his crimes. The Aussie examples are ones where the criminal behavior ITSELF is why people love them. Examples here in America would be like, Ted Kaczynski, Al Capone, Marvin Heemeyer, Ted Bundy, Jeffrey Dahmer, etc.

    On defamation/libel, my dad was working a case where his client was being sued by a massive corporation for libel because he performed what amounted to independent journalism on a personal blog. My dad's client had specifically extrapolated and provided compelling evidence of financial fraud and/or misappropriation of retiree funds (cant remember what exactly) which is what he was being sued for
    My dad's first course of action was to send a court-ordered request to the company to provide detailed financial evidence in order to prove that they had not committed fraud and that the man's claims were, therefore, libelous
    The next communication they received was the company officially withdrawing all charges
