    The problem with the Panthers is that the person who needs to be fired CAN'T be fired. David Tepper is too involved with football decisions. No GM or HC will ever be able to come in and do what they need to do for the team to be successful.

      I'm not a panthers fan, but i agree with you %100. we all saw how the commanders was with former owner Dan Snyder did with that team. i also disagree with the idea of firing a guy in just 6 months, that's what you call zero patience. Andy Reid went 5-11 in his first year and after that he started winning. if the panthers have an owner that keeps making decision on football personnel then they will struggle every year.

    A part of me wants Frank and Fitt to stay through next year, just cause they fu$ked us by trading our picks. Then fire everybody. The other part of me wants to just say blow it all up this year. Either way, I don't trust Tepper to hire anyone good anyways, so I guess it doesn't really matter either way.

  • @texasmade2719
    @texasmade2719 11 месяцев назад +9

    Im very disappointed in Steve Smith comment of Frank Reich! I disagree with his views 100 percent and here is why...
    Jacksonville Jaguars fired two Head Coaches after one season which was Mike Mularkey and Urban Meyer. Doug Marrone took Jaguars to AFC Championship in 2017 and Doug Pederson took them to 2nd round of playoffs. So to say its not good to fire a Head Coach after one season ridiculous, ESPECIALLY, if they are experienced Head Coach in NFL.
    Houston Texans fired two Head Coaches (David Culley and Lovie Smith) back to back years to hire DeMeco Ryans and look at their season so far..... The David Culley hire was a joke cause GM Nick Caserio was gonna hire Josh McDaniels as Texans new HC but he chose the Las Vegas Raiders with another New England Patriot GM. Caserio then tried to hire Josh McCown (Carolina Panthers QB Coach and Asst) with no NFL Head Coaching experience which lead them to promote Lovie Smith cause Brian Flores lawsuit had Texans as one of the teams discriminating of not hiring Black Head Coaches.
    Frank Reich is NOT a ROOKIE NFL HEAD COACH, he was in a worse situation with Indianapolis Colts when they hired JOSH MCDANIELS as HC and MCDANIELS DECLINED the position the COLTS hurried and hired Frank Reich as their new Head Coach with all staff already hired and players already signed and drafted.
    Frank Reich started the season as his first year at HC at 1-5 then he coached them back to finishing the season at 10-6 defeating the Texans in first round of playoffs making it to 2nd round.
    Keep in mind the offensive coordinator (Nick Siriani Eagles HC) and defensive coordinator (Matt Eberflus Bears HC) were already hired before Frank Reich.
    Although Andrew Luck retired, Frank Reich still was successful in AFC South with the following QBs Matt Hasselbeck, Jacoby Brissett, Matt Ryan, Carson Wentz, Phillip Rivers and Sam Ehlinger and Reich was fired after a 3-5-1 start in middle of season.
    Frank Reich is no rookie HC, he was an NFL QB, Offensive Coordinator , QB Coach, Head Coach and was on a Superbowl winning team.
    He should NOT get the same leway as Matt Rhule who has never been an NFL Player, nor an NFL Head Coach yet Matt Rhule first season as Carolina Panthers Head Coach was better than Frank Reich and Frank Reich chose his own staff and had a say in who he draft who he sign and what offensive and defensive scheme he wants to use.
    A rookie Head Coach may deserve another year for progress but not a first year Head Coach starting 1-9 with all the NFL experience at QB and Coaching that comes with Frank Reich resume. Rookie Head Coaches from Texans , Cardinals and Colts are expected to have bad seasons their first season, not an experienced Head Coach his first year with full control of his staff and roster.

Yes Tepper bares a lot of the blame too but Fitter still CHOSE these weak FA and made these BAD TRADE DEALS KILLING OUR DRAFT CAPITAL!!! As for Frank Reich, IMO he should’ve never even been considered just because of his coaching in Indy! He had a much better roster and HE turned it into what we are now!!! The offense has been prosaic. We have given away our best players over consecutive season’s beginning with Stephon Gilmore. Hassan Reddick, CMC, DJ Moore, and a host of draft picks as well. The culture hasn’t been adequately established. Our future draft capital has been mortgaged for an unproven QB. Demonstrably great players have been exchanged for neophytes when I don’t think that’s what the time required. Bryce is a good qb to me but also how many starters are 5th round picks or greater? Scouting is imperative

I knew when Frank interviewed for the job, he would be a bad hire. I knew when Bryce was drafted, it was a huge mistake. The ppl in charge can't admit they screwed up in royal fashion. The fans can't deal with the idea of 2 more bad years. They make excuses. What part of the decisions made, did Smith have? There seems to be a lot of excuses and kissing up going on here.

    The issue is gm. Lets start with cmac and dj moore. Both combined make 32 milluon a year. We got a 2nd and 3rd for cmac and a 1st basicly for dj. We trade both of them when burns gives you more capital in draft with 2 1sts and a 3nd and he wants 30 mill. Now you have a qb with no rb or wr. And a de you could have traded but now cant pay. The owner forced frank to keep the oline coach and the worst part of the team is the oline. He clearly wanted cj and instead we take bryce. This lands on owner and gm. Wilks and reich both never got a chance.

    Your points are fairly flawed but it's a hot take era. Meyer and Lawrence are a terrible comp. Meyer was a total disaster as a coach and a person. Bryce Young is no TrevorLawrence. That situation was easy to fix. One could make the same point about the Dolphins and Brian Flores who was a disaster even though he had a .509 record. McDaniel is kind of a genius and they aren't common.
    Who are the Panthers going to get next?
    And if a team just blows through coaches like the Raiders, eventually word gets out and no one wants to coach your team.

    • @beannhead
      @beannhead 11 месяцев назад

      Both of you have flawed points about this.
      I agree people like to pick and choose the comparisons of scenarios involving team building such as Manning’s early career, or the Meyer/Jags fiasco, but in reality, this is its own tricky situation, not in the sense that it’s more difficult than those in years past, just different qualities about it.
      “Bryce is no TLaw”
      Ummm ok, imo Burrow, TLaw, and Cam are in their own tier of college prospects. But Bryce is an immense talent in his own right, the consensus of knowledgeable draft folk having him as the clear no. 1 prospect and having the film to prove it.
      “That situation was easy to fix.”
      Uhhh not really. The 2022 Jags struggled heavily in the early to mid stages of that season, but did end up finding that magic and letting TLaw with his immense talent cut loose on the league. Even now, obviously the Jags are a force to be reckoned with, but still questionable whether they can take down a top tier team in the playoffs (not Brandon Staley lol)
      I agree the McDaniel level of genius isn’t common, but let’s not act like there aren’t UPCOMING candidates on other teams that are projected to have HC opportunities come their way. Ben Johnson (Lions), Bobby Slowik (Texans) just to name a couple.
      “Word gets out that no one wants to coach your team”
      It depends. Let’s not forget that the Texans (the team that everyone is raving about nowadays) just came off back to back different coaches in David Culley and Lovie Smith. The opportunity came up for Demeco and Slowik once they could build their team how they want, Slowik coaching up the no. 2 pick (Stroud) and Demeco being the pack leader to his former team and defensive mind.
      I can’t lie a Ben Johnson would be a great candidate for this team, but overall there just has to be a cultural change here in Carolina. The problem with Frank is not that he doesn’t understand the ins and outs of the game or being a POS like Meyer, but that his approach to the game is like trying to fit triangular blocks in a square hole. The O-line issue is the most glaring example as they try to implement a zone-style scheme, with a personnel (even tho they’ve had their share of injuries) particularly only succeeded when they embraced power options and had a strong dose of run attacks with Wilks.
      I’m all for letting guys finish out and give it their all tho, but I can tell this is just not going to work. The way this team is ran currently is not a Tee Higgins or Chris Olave away from being a playoff team, they haven’t even cracked mediocrity with this guy at the helm. The porous draft classes don’t help the Panthers case either.

    Going into 2023, the Panthers were suspect at a lot of positions anyway but really what's burned them is what has burned a lot of organizations---terrible, horrible, frankly blown drafts. Outside of their first rounders (you can bunch in Burns, CMC, and DJ Moore) you have a ton of blown mid-round to late picks that aren't even on the roster anymore. Heck CMC was traded for pennies on the dollar. Player personnel (outside of free agency which is always a crap shoot) has to be on point otherwise whatever QB you bring in (first round or otherwise) has got nothing--you don't even know what you have in Bryce because the roster is built like a house of cards. Quarterback extremely important yes but look to the 49ers or Eagles as far as how to built a team in today's NFL. Built on the O and D line inside out (like HOF John Lynch, Parcells, or Howie Roseman)---and EVEN though Trey Lance was a bust for San Fran guess what? They turned to a talent Purdy (biggest story in the league and steal in the draft as Mr. Irrelevant---didn't matter that Trey Lance didn't work out BECAUSE the 49ers have the skill position talent on both the lines---stars at tight end and receiver and depth at running back (A star in Mr. CMC himself). They have an identity. The Panthers have none of that---a ton of wasted draft capital though!
    As far as Reich, I agree with you JM. All due respect to Frank--he's an excellent football man and STILL I believe a good coach but he was put into a bad position by this owner and the way this Panthers team was constructed. It's obvious there was no plan to support Bryce. Still time for Bryce but ultimately here's what needs to happen. The owner needs to hire a great personnel guy or gm--let that guy hire the coach then let those "football guys" build this team (and if Tepper wants a winner he needs to get his thumb off the scale and back off). You have to be patient and have a firm plan in place---live with some lean times but see some progress that's how winners are built in the NFL. There is no instant way to get to be a playoff or Super Bowl contender. You can't take short cuts.
