nice video! thanks for the information, was also wondering about this receiver you have on here, that's my next project. I just posted a few videos on Hallicrafters SX-25. From my experience, almost all Hallecrafters have some mod done from previous owners, thanks!

Hey, the 28a I came across and am rebuilding had the same crap gasket thing across the top between the front panel. And the case. Was cork gasket Lima a valve cover and that awful old brown permatex gasket sealer. Yuck. The flacked off stuff is all down in the tuning engine. What a mess.

Would it make you feel any better if I told you that I feel your pain? Been there many times... self inflicted. The splintering of the meter casing is what they call "meter bloom".

Scary packaging... where are the mandated crumple zones and foam noodles?

Thats a good darn question, I always wonder how many items are damaged because of crummy packing. That box was more junk then box.

Resistors backward? Do you mean swapped positions maybe?

This may be some of the mods: bama.edebris.com/download/hallicra/sx28servicebul/SX28_Service_Bulletin.pdf Seriously: I looked through your video again, and it appears all the mods listed in this factory service bulletin were installed: That piece with the two jacks appears to be the crystal socket- probably for the one you said was floating in the box, and not part of the auction... That added tube is pretty much where the paperwork says to put it, although obviously not a factory job.If it is a 6AL5, that is the new ANL circuit. The band 6 thing, no idea... But the Service Bulletin describes a heavy mod to the ANL circuit, involving the removal (entirely) of the 6H6, and using the socket for a 6SL7 which uses 1/2 for a crystal marker & the other half for an oscilloscope/panadapter connection. The new switch on the right side most likely controls the crystal marker circuit. Probably that odd connection at the back is for the panadapter setup.
BEFORE you go "fixing it", compare it to the service bulletin- you may have one which has been updated according to factory specs! (Although the magic eye is NOT one of the mods I'm aware of...)
