    I teach this to my students. I really appreciate you showing this. Instead of calling it a trick, make that a step in solving for the GCF. Teachers are told not to teach tricks. This has solid math to back it up. Just explain that if you are counting by any number that is larger than the least difference, you will not be able to hit both numbers if you are counting by a number larger than that difference.

      Dear dis z a trick... Not our traditional method of calculating hcf....
      Trick was wonderful❤️. But in schools uh can't use tricks na. U need to follow the proper way.

      Evaluation for school tests are different, there we have to follow step by step approach. Tricks are good for competitive exams, where time is limited.

    Could not get the correct answer with this method for finding HCF(215,167,135)..Does concept of least difference works everywhere?

    Sir one thoughthcf for 480, 720,108
    Atlast i got = 2×2×2×2×3×5
    In this 2 and 3 only divisible but there are 4 2's. How many 2 should we take

      Sir hcf for 480 720 and 108
      The minimun is 720-480=240
      240=2×2×2×2×3×5
      Now 2 and 3 divides all three given numbers
      But doubt is there are many 2's. then how we calculate hcf sir.

    In the first case the HCF is 4 but it can be 2 if we compare it with the second one

      That's because we're finding the highest common factor, which can divide both the numbers and in this case the highest number which can divide both of them is 4. That's why we haven't considered 2.

    In first example 1) 4can be further divide in 2×2 so the hcf should be 2

      yes but it is highest common factor and 2 does divide into 8 and 12 but 4 is the answer because 4 is higher than 2. I hope this helps

    difference is two number 44,48.taken mininum so 44 then 22×2...so hcf is 2 right

      Hcf is 4 difference is 4 ,then 2* 2 ,2 is also divide the 44, 48 then 22,24 again we take 2 then ,22 ,24 is divide by 2 , finally 2*2 4 is hcf

    Sir in the 5 th question we got 18..
    Then I can write 18 as 9*2...
    9 is not cancelled in those 3 so 9 we can avoid...remaining number 2 divided in all the 3 numbers.. So y can't we choose 2as our answer

      Ashutosh Nayak look at the 6th example given by sir ..(150,210,300)In that after finding out the ..least difference which is 60.. first make it as 30*2 and check weather 30 is a factor ..if it is so ..u no need to check the rest .. because u have to find highest common factor .if 30 is not a factor then make it as 10*3 ..then check weather 10 is a factor?.like wise u can check from the highest numbers

    Good. But division method is very much faster than this. No analysis is required. Very big numbers can also be solved.

    This trick is only applicable for simple sets and not complex ones like 1344, 1856, 2752 as this is taking way more time than the regular concept!
    Btw good for simple sets.

    umm, sir, what if you have two numbers like 64 - 24. U get 40. 40 can't go into either, so when i try to get its factors i end up with 2

      Also, what if you get two factors and both can evenly go into the number? Ex: 64-28=36. 36=9x4 and both 9 and four go into 64 and 28. Which is the HCF?
