Thanks for asking. The largest piece, the king stands 2 3/4 inches (7 cm) tall, and has a base 1 7/8 inches (5 cm) from front to back. It fits well on a board with 2 to 2 1/4 inch squares (5 to 5.5 cm squares in international standard sizes).
The best 'period' board for this set is the traditional Indian chess mat with no 'black/white' checkered markings. I don't have them listed now, but I do have some here in my studio. But when those chessmen were being made in Scandinavia, the game already had a long history in the Middle East. These chessmen predate the Lewis men by about five centuries.
