    I like the fact that there’s a slope because the thing is calculus doesn’t just deal with graphs but students always say that it always uses graphs witch yes they do but you have too be given a formula

    I'm really loving those calculus based physics videos :) do you have any recommended textbook for self studying?

    How can you solve for the calculus without a given function? Isn't taking the slope at a very specific point the same as calculus?

    I am interested in how you did your lecture videos, what software and equipment did you use to make this youtube video?

      I used a usb Wacom tablet (~$100) to write on and some Camtasia software (~$50) to screen capture. Oh and a usb mic (~$75) to capture audio. I think there’s free screen capture software though.

    I’m taking calculus based physics 1 in college now and am actually very bored with it because the curriculum seems to have reduced about 90% of it to algebra already.
    Yes, when we’re first learning a new concept like momentum, we start with the calculus derivation of dP/dt.....middle middle middle....and then arrive at P=mv. And the remainder of problems and questions are solved using the algebraic representation.
    Mind you, in college, I’ve already taken calculus 1, calculus 2, and calculus 3 so I was anticipating some awesome, rigorous differentials and definite integrals but to no avail. 😒

      I'm having the same outlook my guy! Currently I'm at the crossroads of either taking calculus based Physics E&M at my university (Texas A&M) this upcoming fall semester which is super hard or taking trig/algebra based Physics E&M at a local college in the summer and just get the credit at A&M.
      The thing is, like you said, when I took Mechanics at A&M it was rare to use calculus, so is calculus based E&M really that important? I'm trying to pursue the path of an Electrical and Computer Engineer but I've been hearing many times that you don't really use E&M as in depth as they teach the course. Do you think I should just take the trig/algebra based course and gain the credit or should I take the calculus based course this next fall semester?

    • @ReubenNinan
      @ReubenNinan Год назад +2

      @@diego1552 I ended up doing the trig/algebra based physics. I did so because at the end of the day, college is sadly about getting good grades and not learning anything. I finished university in May 2022 and I had no issues either.
      My advice, if you're already in engineering or a hard major don't choose harder profs or harder classes for the idea of "it's harder I'll be more prepared". That mindset is how you screw yourself I think. University (and the steps after such as grad school or jobs) now is all about stats and experience. Just get good stats (grades), and figure out how you can gain experience via personal projects, internships, partnerships with profs, stuff like that.
      Best of luck my guy, college is weird.

    The answer that I'm getting is, algebra physics is for uncompromised people, like high school students and graduates from non physics/math areas. You are given formulas to work without knowing where they came from

    • @chaosend3815
      @chaosend3815 5 лет назад +8

      I just took an algebra-based physics course this semester at college and the teacher would always explain how to derive the formulas. They always come from other basic equations but it gets tricky when 2 or more different equations are involved in the derivation. You will find that it's much easier to memorize them, and that's normally what ends up happening after working with them that often.

      Chaos; End I’m taking calc 1 this semester and I lead the class in highest exam scores. I’m a Biology major/ premed. Which class do you think I should take. I have a 4.0 gpa in math and a 3.942 overall gpa

    • @chaosend3815
      @chaosend3815 5 лет назад

      @@AfroMedic I haven't taken calc-based physics (I'll probably take it next semester), but If you're profficient in calculus I would say go for it.
      I really wonder if it's harder than albebra-based. I've heard that the only different thing is the inclusion of derivatives and integrals which shouldn't be a problem if you already learned all that stuff. A grad student once told me that the concept is essentially the same, but with calculus the calculations take a little longer.

    • @AfroMedic

      Chaos; End I’m very good at Math and sometimes I think that the Biology degree is limiting my abilities and my love for Math I’m thinking of adding a second major that will guarantee me a job after graduation since I don’t see myself teaching Biology after college. Math has really helped me especially in my general Chemistry classes which the hardest part for students is usually solving those Math word problems.

      @@AfroMedic I was feeling the same way as you, that's why I added a physics minor. And also changed majors from biology to chemistry.
      Getting a double major would be nice too, if it doesn't drain you that much.
      I'm actually surprised that you're taking calculus. At my university that's not even a requirement for bio majors.

    Will I manage college physics 1 (calc based) with pre calc as my highest math? I’ve been teaching myself derivatives and I think I could manage it. But if someone thinks that’s too much it would be useful fead back!
