    I finally like the "Crummy photo" idea. It really does help believe it or not, to keep me from details that aren't there and to use my imagination.

    I love your videos. Until I discovered your channel I never understood how to use pastels and how underappreciated they are. Even my art teachers never did them justice.

    Holy Buckets!!! Your crummy photo transformations are the best! Love the palette, love the light and I loved the process. I've learned to not give up so fast when painting in pastels...keep it as light a touch for as long as you can during your layering and mark making. Thank you, so much, for the videos and constant inspiration and information to help me problem solve and be a better painter!

    Do you ever frame your demos? or sell them? I'm trying to determine what you'd consider a frameable painting among your demos of impressionistic quality. I love your demos done within a tight frame of time. I hope this question makes sense. LOL

    • @KarenMargulis
      @KarenMargulis  4 года назад +2

      Good question! I actually do sell them. I sometimes work on them for a bit after a demo to add finishing marks but I would say they are 99% done in the videos. I just happen to paint fast due to the way I practiced under a tight time frame while I worked full time. I only had time to paint on my lunch break so I learned to be efficient!

    can I get a similar effect with generic soft pastels?I can't afford the more expensive pastels that you use.

    • @KarenMargulis
      @KarenMargulis  4 года назад

      Doreen Lorenzo Thanks for watching! As with any art supply the more expensive the better the quality and usually the more expensive pastels have more pigment so the results are richer and more vibrant than the generic less expensive pastels. Also some of the cheap basic sets don’t have a good range of values and colors. But that being said if you learn layering and a light touch you can create good paintings with a limited set. I have reviewed two less expensive but good quality pastels on my Patreon page. Www.patreon.com/karen Margulis Look at Blick brand pastels and Mungyo soft pastels for decent quality that won’t break the budget.
