- During the time when Belgium shone brightly and its capital Brussels, “brusselled” as the great Jacques Brel called it. Hergé, long time publicist, created in 1957, along with his Studios, the flag and the logo of the Belgian Antarctic Expedition.
This journey of highly scientific value was organised as part of the International Geophysical Year, under the direction of the Belgian explorer Gaston de Gerlache. On this occasion, Belgium accompanied eight other countries for the establishment of research stations on the huge frozen continent (the King Baudouin base for Belgium).
The contribution of Tintin's father came in the form of a graphic symbol inspired by a stylised compass. He was also the emblem of the 1966 expedition led in concert, this time with the Netherlands. The compass designed by the Studios Hergé includes a needle placed in the North-South direction and a cockade representing the colours of Belgium.
For the record, the members of the 1957-58 Belgian Expedition received a vital supply from Avenue Louise (headquarters of the Hergé Studios since 1950): a complete collection of Tintin Adventure albums, to brighten up and warm the hearts of those who would spend the winter on the ice floe!

You are right these should be given to a Museum of some kind to allow the nation to see them before they completely rot and are no longer accessible to the public.
great videos carry on with the explorations.
Mick
I think one of them is in a museum, somewhere. I don't remember where though.
both snow cats should be restored and in a museum .. I agree with you ..
Sorry guys I had to re-upload this video due to an edit error... thank you so much for all your support xx
Ahh I wondered why I'd got a message saying this had been uploaded again!
What a amazing experience to see them up close. I can't even fathom what them and their crew went through! Amazing!
If only they could talk?
I've dreamed of having one of these ever since I saw a picture of one in a book at my school library in the 1980s....one of the coolest looking vehicles ever made in my opinion....I'm glad to know they still exist.
These snow cats need to be out into a museum. Rare vehicles like these need to be preserved. So cool
Definitely a rare find. Surely to be purchased and restored if knowledge of these gets out
I've watched lots of videos about these and it's so crazy to think those were on the Antarctic it's absolutely crazy how they did all that and how they are there right now. Astonishing
Very cool and totally unique. I so hope they are saved or put into a safe storage. When they are gone they are gone. Amazing
I have to agree with you 100% they should be in a museum and not left like that forgotten and left to fall apart. Thank you for letting us see them with you.......
This is amazing. And so eerie........They really should be moved somewhere safer. Awesome explore, one of my faves!
It's an amazing smell, old equipment such as them old snow cats, I can't smell it enough(lol). I agree, before it's too late they need to go to a museum like place for historical motorized equipment.
Enjoy your explores greatly, keep up the great job. Cheers 👍✌
I think they are amazing, so glad you found them.
I like the choice of word for this find. So cool !!!
They need to be saved. This makes me sad. 😥 #SAVETHESNOCATS
Partypete 1776 #SAVETHESNOCATS😥
It makes me sad as well I would love to go there and start the old girl up again
Amazing find!!!!! Hope they don't get trashed need saving them 🙏
They need to be preserved I'd love to have one
Looks like a red ram hemi. Very cool
As you said, they should be in a museum. Crazy that they have been there since the 70s. Awesome video, thank you for sharing
Tucker has one of the original machines from the expedition that they have restored and I got to see it at their facility in Medford. It even runs!
Absolutely right. They NEED to go into some museum before that building comes down and destroys history.
Quite primitive conditions but that's old and cold vehicles.
Cool cool video
Great find!! Thanks for sharing
Its such a shame that these are stuck there, like you say they should be in a museum for people to see and have the story told.
This is true ly amazing find that is history so much better then found in a museum wow i often wonder what happend to thease
Oh yea love that smell, would awesome if they were restored for all to see
Wow they look awsome I'm saprised they brought them back home most heavy loads are left out their at first thought they where just tuckers they made a bunch of them all same colors but that badge on the side sho their the ones from artic
all of your videos are quiet , its a good job i have a poundland amp speaker !
Such history hidden! How do people hide this stuff away for so long! Madness
I would think these would've been saved on display
Get em running and rolling again
Jeremy mellor I think these snow cats should be restored and taken to shows also it would be good to use these for recovery of vehicles stuck in snow .
Hi mate great video such a shame these vehicles are leftabandoned you need to contact a museum to get them shifted to a museum as soon as possible
These old CATS need restored.
I hope someone can restore them back to their glory
That number 02 has a 1950’s era Hemi in it
amazing video and also amazing history 😳👍👍👍👍
Superb video as ever; it’s awesome / dreadful how something so amazing can be left in limbo / isolation. It’s like these vehicles and the mission they were designed for achieved their goal; then allowed to fade from the public consciousness like a dream. Evidently the keeper of the vehicles still has memories; just a shame they are suffering from lack of maintenance and physical care. One question; What was the emotional music used as intro? Lovely
Play it back to Google to find out
WOOOW, what a trip! It has been a long time dream of mine to visit Antarctica and the Neumayer III station but of course that will most likely never happen, unfortunately. How cool that these vehicles are still there, it wouldn't have surprised me at all had they just left them in Antarctica, at that time not a lot of care was taken on the environment, only many years later it became a commitment to pack everything you bring to Antarctica out with you afterwards. It's a shame they have not been cared for better though, given their history.
I wonder what the consumption of hemi-powered sno-cats was in Antarctica, even modern diesel-powered ones have a massive consumption under Antarctic conditions and they have to be run on jet fuel IIRC because ordinary diesel would freeze.
Tucker buys their sno cats back to refurbish... Have you been in contact with them?
A shame to think where they've been and now left to rot good wee restoration project for someone PS interesting vid m8
where is this shameful place they have been too?
I think its time to see the light of day soda blasting the cabs and clean them up overhaul they might still be free not locked up
Very nice
I would love to get them running again
we have snowcats here... like freaking millions of them. hell i have owned and driven a few myself
Where are these freaking millions of Snowcats? What is this place called? Thank you in advance.
@@rudy103069 northern canada, western canada, eastern canada...
@@DaBurt42O ok thanks.lol
Snow cats where made in a smaller version too that used a air cooled vw engine
yup and here we use them to groom snowmobile trails
Hi! Great video however the volume you edited it with is extremely low. Just thought you should know. Thanks for sharing. Those were built about 90 miles from me here in Oregon.
Would love to restore one of these
Actually, these aren't abandoned. The owner holds on to them because they hold emotional value (as he was on the polar misson), there are problems to get the out of the house (house would need to be torn down to get them out) and some legal reasons why they can't be sold/given away. (officially still government-owned) They are in great shape to have been "abandoned" for 50+ years, the only damage they took in all those years was because of Urbexers.
How did they get in there then ?
@@princecharlie3217 breaking and entering
@@sarah-jt8id yes sadly I see it on here all the time with so called abandoned houses some are abandoned but a lot are from people who die intestate and it takes time to settle but meantime these people who I guess go through the obituary columns try there luck and once it’s out there the vandals see it as open house
Even though they are still "government owned" surely they could be displayed in a museum, just view it as parking them somewhere different, and as for removal, crane them over the house, my father in the mid sixties attended a crane as the travelling mechanic, it was there to lift a boat a man had made in his garden, with insufficient side access it had to be lifted over his house, which it duly was and onto a lorry, although they would be heavier than the boat cranes today are far more capable, the only thing about displaying them would be to keep all three together as they should be.
Tucker Sno-Cat has one of the original cats in Medford and it has been restored.
what an absolute shame they are left to rot ¬ in a meuseam tradegedy
Is that sno-cat still in that barn? Who owns that property? I would like to buy it from them fir restoration.
They need be restored
I hope someone saved the snow cat's after all it part of history from the Antarctic it's a shame that someone just left them there
Built in Medford, Oregon.
You can see someone has replaced the roof over the cats so someone cares about them
Where are these located ? I would be interested in restoring them to there former glory . If anyone knows who owns them please contact me !
You’ll need deep pockets… well over 100k
Do a cold start....
That Sno-Cat sort of gots the shape of a Volvo PT-21 Sugga?
I wonder how much a model 743 costs, I’d like to have one
Fire em up go for a rip
I would not restore all of them id just kleen one realy good get it running mabe restore one to former glory for museum

Interesting videos or would be if we could here what was being said. Stop bloody whispering, hold the mic closer or record the narration in the edit.
