Odds are many of the worker in your cities are on OSSFs with possibly many failing. So 'wash your hands' signs mean more than just what was released in the bathrooms.

This was a really helpful video. I own a precast concrete plant that manufactures concrete tanks in a variety of sizes for septic and grease use (among other precast products). It's really helpful to see things from our customer's perspective- how they use the tanks, how they maintain them, etc, in order to provide more value on our end to our installers.

The pumpout is to deal with accumulated solids. My dad did this for a number of years. Went with him many times myself. did mostly rural and farm jobs and sometimes the owner would get us to take the truck out to one of his fields and do some fertilizing. Dad would set the truck in gear, slide me behind the wheel and he'd open the drain. and he'd just point to where I should go. Little 10 year old me behind the wheel of a big tandem Ford truck. Pretty good times.

I’ve always understood the idea of a septic system, and have had experience maintaining municipal sewer lines. But I’ve learned more about septics from a handful of your videos than I’ve known over all these years. And I love how you have a quickly dispelled a lot of the magic and snake oil myths about these systems. I’ve got a colleague who keeps telling me to do all those things to never have to pump, and you can’t convince him otherwise.
Thanks for sharing, you’re definitely a right person for this job and with an attitude like yours you will continue to be more successful. I am from northeastern Illinois, but if you operated in my service area I wouldn’t hesitate to call you! Take care and stay safe!

Great video brother! I’m trying to educate myself on septic systems. We’ve lived in the house for 20 years. Had it pumped once 11 years ago. Just recently started having issues again.. called around to get estimates. One guy quoted me $400 if they dig or $350 if I dig.😂😂😂With today’s economy, I thought I’d save the $50 and dig myself… which was stupid. I have a bad back and neck.. many spine surgeries and now a headache that won’t guit! I used a heavy duty hotdog roasting rod to probe. Our soil is very rocky mixed with dense red clay. I had a bunch of false positives on tank location. Now my yard looks like the golf course in”Caddyshack”!😂😂 I’m getting a riser installed for the next time! I do have a question for you. My neighbor saw me getting mine pumped ( solid all the to the bottom!). He decided to have his pumped. His looked like black swamp water loaded with sewer flies and their larvae. It was literally boiling with them. His guy said that’s what you want. Ours didn’t have any flies or larvae. I guess there was no room for them 😂😂My question is… should I have the flies and larvae! And how do I introduce them to the tank? Thanks again for your videos! They are entertaining and informative!!

    2) why do I smell my tank when I'm near it and why do I hear water gurgling in it?? I have a large concrete tank with its large square top above the ground a bit.
My drain field? is under a wooded area 😳 im told thats bad.

Thank you for providing helpful information about septic systems. I have a question regarding my own situation.
I recently built a house in Horry County, SC, in April 2024. Now, in September 2024, my septic system is overflowing when I use water in the house. I can see water running over both ends of the system.
Previously, I had an issue with water coming out of the ground in my drain field. I had the Septic professionals who put down the system advised me on adding more dirt, which my builder did, and that seemed to resolve the issue. However, now I'm experiencing the septic tank overflowing.
Do you have any suggestions on what the issue could be, or is the septic tank functioning as it should?

I'm in my forties and never owned a home, so I've heard of septic tanks but thought they were just reservoir tanks that captured overflow and that waste was sent to a central line that took a neighborhood's waste to a purification plant or dumping ground. Now I understand that you have them in places that don't have sewers. Thinking about my waste sitting underneath my yard would gross me out. 🤮

A dishwasher is good because it mainly only adds dirty water to the septic tank. septic tank cannot operate without water. What you want to avoid is non soluable solids. Like hard paper, raw food, feminine hygiene products.
