You did pick one of the more complicated models to make this. The whole dv series is a pain comparatively. I probably would have called it quits if I had run into one before getting a few easier ones under my belt. Yet you were quick, (faster than me anyway). I really wish I had run into this video when I first started. Seeing you kinda just breeze through with confidence even when you hit a snag or two would have done me good. Everyone else seems to have practiced or something. After watching a few I thought I was ready. Then I'd get caught up somewhere or find something where it shouldnt be. Anyway I found myself half panicked thinking back on the videos and how they never seemed to run into anything unexpected. I knew I had screwed something up. I realize now that any of that was probably edited out. At least I hope so. I still don't get through one without as smoothly as most other video tutorials. Although I've learned now it's not the end if the world . Just calm down and figure it out. So more and more like your video here. Just wanted to comment and complement you on your video. It's more informative and more realistic than most. And you showed it when you had to go back becouse you missed a screw etc. Also admitting the intimidation factor and that it gets better. like I said wish I woulda ran across this along time ago.
Dude, you rock! I have that model, and I watched the vid for that model, but now I'm doing my wife's Gateway, so I watched this. I have tinkered with PCs for years, but always shied away from laptops. No more. I have a lot more confidence going into them now. Love the tackle box screw holder! Keep up the great videos. They're helping a lot of us, especially those of us in Alaska. Thanks again!
Thank you very much for detailing this and for your organization tip! I was actually using the same type of tray to hold the screws, but I had never thought to label them like that (I always just sorted them by size). I would like to add for newer tinkerers that you do want to be careful what you touch and how. If you aren't careful you can short out parts with static electricty (It's useful to ground yourself frequently when working or wear an anti-static strap, especially in the drier winter months), or even the oils from your fingers can cause damage if left there over time. That's not to say that you should be horribly afraid of it every time you so much as pop a RAM stick out, just that you need to pay attention to what you're doing and avoid carelessly touching things you shouldn't.
WOW, Brian, thanks for this! It was AWESOME to see how quickly you disassembled that laptop! You certainly made the process a whole lot less intimidating! This video is very educational and informative! I look forward to seeing more of your videos! You just earned a new subscriber! :)
Brian, I'll bet you were hell when you were a little kid! Taking everything apart! At about 9 years of age, I remember taking a little tube radio apart (that is, what I could get out- hard wired with discrete parts). That was "a 100 years ago"!! Thanks, great video. I always learn from watching you.
great video, im just about in ten mins to do my HP DV6 its got a Turion rm-75 and its HOTTTTTT i mean its like idel 68ish and over 95 at max. thats WITH a laptop cooler! so this helped greatly. the best laptop demo ive seen on the net.
I like that method of sorting screws,,,I used to work in a repair shop we fixed all sorts of stuff. I remember fixing VCR's and if you didn't put the screws back in the proper places bad things could happen.
Cheers for this Brian. Followed your excellent instructions and tips (the top one being "be patient"!) and fixed my Toshiba laptop. I like your style lad. No tech bullshit and very straight forward :)
Just stopped by to say Much Respect! Excellent computer repair videos. I bragged on you in one of my recent solutions. (Whoopee! I know. Just makes you sleep better at night, knowing that, huh? lol!)
That was remarkable Brian. Amazing in fact. I could never put all those bit and pieces together again LOL!! But then I'm 75 and my memory is 'screwed' if you'll pardon the pun. The demo was excellent. Many thanks ! Just 1 quick Q : is it possible to take the bottom (back) of the laptop off without removing all the smaller panels first ? Thanks and subscribed.
@AlaskanPotHead - Hey waaayyy up there in Alaska! I think I am in the exact opposite place in the US! Glad it worked out for you! Thanks for the comment! I have always wanted to travel to Alaska, perhaps Ill run into you there!? LOL.
Best tutorial, these awesome tips from a veteran helped me a lot (I mean A LOT). I repaired my overheating laptop (without any disassembly manual) I thought this was impossible, never have been I so wrong.. :) thanks Brian.
PRO can really do it in 20 minutes with explaining which tools to use. I have a video on my channel that takes apart laptop in about 12 minutes. Good job man!
I just tried it but after I assembled it There were few pieces and few nails left. I think the PC has more nails for secondary use. But what happens to the remaining.
Thank you Brian for the job well done. But I noticed that you have touched the electronic circuits on the motherboard and the other electronic chips with your bare hands; however I learned in the past that this could result in a short circuit that might damage these electronic parts. Am I right or wrong?!
Great video sir. Sir, can you make dismantle video on HCL ME LAPTOP series because those laptops are out of the series and many computer mechanics are refusing to dismantle it. Thankyou.
same cables connectors can be very sencitive :( can you show something about them? (i'm trying learn how disassemble a laptop. and these video is the best, because it's the laptop model that can give us so much work with it) thanks for all... realy thanks for sharing your tecnics and more (i'm portuguese)
Great tutorial! I have one of these laptops which I bought in 2008 and its still alive and kicking, though now it gets pretty damn hot in normal conditions, temps for the cpu hover close to 70c while under normal use. I'm thinking maybe its time to clean and reapply some thermal paste to the cpu? The thing must be all dried and cracked up so maybe its not making proper contact with the heatsink and just spreading the heat everywhere, I checked the fan and it doesn't seem clogged up with dust so thermal paste is my best guess. Do you think this is my best bet or just buy a new fan?
Thanks ! You help people all around the world : I'm from France ;) Do people give their old PCs for free or dead PCs for free do you think ? I thought about collecting some old PCs and make some new ones to sell.. Is it a good idea ? (I am still minor..)
I don’t think anyone will see this but my laptop cover is broke on the corner and I wanted to know if anyone here thinks it would be a good idea to reproduce that corner or the entire cover in glass fiber or resin, or maybe in 3D printing as well but that would be a bit overkill. I can’t find the cover literally anywhere. I don’t live in US so I can’t get it on eBay or Craigslist. I’ve been searching for months and no one in my country sells it, and my mom doesn’t let me buy things from outside. So what do you guys think?
I took the exact same laptap apart you took apart, had to bring it in to get the shit refloated, damn thing heated up and never started until i got it refloated.
I just want my laptop's PLL. That's it. But nooo, it's nowhere to be found on the internet, so it looks like I'm gonna have to do the big job... DIY Tech , PLEASE tell me you happen to know the PLL for a Sony Vaio VGN FZ240E?
I have looked everywhere for the right size phillips head screwdriver for laptops and can't seem to figure out which is the best size and finding a magnetized one is even harder any advise on where to get tools thank you.
I bought my HP Pavilion dv6-6047 cl entertainment PC in Nov. 2011 the fan started to make noise in May. 24 2014. I am retired tool and die Maker i have 26 Yrs of hands on experience i like to do my own work. i would like to replace the fan with factory orginal parts.HP.Brion you do very good work do you have any advice does anybody have advice God Bless..................
Just watch some of my videos and see what I am doing. Then take it slow. You can do this! I know it seems intimidating, but the machine will fail if you don't fix it. Take the risk, learn something new by doing. Good luck!
Can i ask a question, about touching the Hard Drive or the RAM, is it safe for not damaging the RAM or Hard Drive by touching its contacts? i mean the PCB-like body of the device, thanks because my Teacher said not to touch the contacts/PCB of the RAM or Hard Disk, but i saw you touch em.
HP Laptops are the worst laptops for taking apart everything Sooooooooo time consuming and intimidating. The easy ones I find for dismantling are the Dells. Great video tutorial as always matey
I am building a gaming computer, I am currently using a Toshiba Satellite C655, would i be able to use the RAM chip and hard drive?... I know a laptops ram chips are small but i checked the mother board and it has slots for it, any thoughts?
You would want to triple check that the RAM is compatible. If so go for it. BUT TRIPLE CHECK. Because even though the slots are there, does not make it compatible. Read the specs. Hard disks are swappable too, so no problem there. Good Luck!
hi, please help. I did this and broke the connector ofthe long yellowish plastic wrapped wire. possible if someone tell me the order of the ends (left to right) of how it goes into the connector? thanks.
Could I disassemble my laptop for its hard drive and DVD ROM and reuse them with another motherboard? I am going to build a gaming PC and are trying to save money on parts. :)
How do you fix a HP g7-1017cl? It is not at all the same especially the keyboard, it is one molded unit. There is not a top part to take off and the metal around the cd tray is not a philips, it looks like round holes!
I've tried dismantling mine, but there's one screw that's stripped and will not come out. I could just force the thing off but would probably end up breaking things in the process.
try gently tapping the screwdriver with a small hammer while in the screw to attempt to create new grooves for your screwdriver to get aahold of and turn.
Pls help.i have here nextbook laptop but dont have brand name and model, I dont see any words written outside or any corner pls help. Where can i find the brand and model cause its not there. Pls
Mine doesn't have any panels on the bottom just screws so I am quite confused on how to dissemble it. It's a HP - 15.6" Touch-Screen Laptop - Intel Core i5.

All I want to do is get the bracket aligned back where it should go. Everything still works reasonably well except the black on the screen is now a red-purple color instead. watching this on my laptop, I wonder how my laptop is feeling.
“Don’t...”
I think your laptop is feeling violated by the black sticks, the screwdriver, and his finger here and there.
