The cannabis available today is much, much stronger than the weed grandma was smoking back in her day and the effects on our brains are much more significant than previously thought. Really, no really!
Jason and Peter sought out Dr. Ryan Sultan an Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychiatry at Columbia University to understand the underlying reasons for our growing inability to get along but when we had him in studio we also picked his brain relating to his expertise in cannabis. He's also an expert in the areas of anxiety, mood disorders, depression, ADHD, and substance abuse. Ryan graciously agreed to help us understand why Peter has been so edgy lately since he's gone cold turkey off marijuana.
    IN THIS EPISODE:
Peter isn't alone in having a hard time coming off pot.
Lung cancer, stroke, anxiety, a shrinking brain? The new huge study on long-term cannabis use.
The effects of long term cannabis consumption.
What happens to your brain when you stop regular use of pot.
    Cannabis, rebound anxiety + ADHD.
The reason kids should stay away from pot until at least age 25.

I have terrible terrible anger issues, bad hips, and mood swings. Because of this, I never drink, or party at all. Weed helps me. Everyone is different.

Weed does not affect the lungs in a bad way. At almost 70 years of age and smoking the stuff for over 50 years, I have the lungs of a twenty-year-old nonsmoker. This year I have pedaled a bicycle 1000 miles, I did not start riding this year until the end of Feb. In the last 5 years I have rode or pedaled said bicycle over 30,000 miles. I average a speed on most rides of 20-23 mph. I should also mention I have chronic heart failure caused by a condition I have called Marfans. This causes blood to be pumped the wrong way from my heart. The harder I exercise the more my lungs get flood with blood. My cardiologist is amazed I do what I do. Most of what is spoken here is nonsense. Some is spot on, but I got a good laugh out of this podcast. I challenge anyone to a bicycle race. There is a saying " Never underestimate an old man in a velomobile".

Whenever I hear arguments against prolonged use of cannabis, I just look at the long time stoners (Snoop, Willie Nelson, Tommy n Cheech, Tyson, McCartney, Michael Douglas etc.) Once they start dropping like flyes, then maybe I'll consider cutting back.
      Til then,
"..all my cares go up in smoke.."

That was actually really good and helpful. Interesting; I wouldn't have clicked on this if it wasn't for Jason Alexander sitting right there. The power of a great actor! 😄 When he talked about sugar, I'm sure a lot of us have that addiction as well! That was totally relatable, his audition analogy, he's totally right. It works that way with both sugar, weed....and all addictions. Thanks!

No, really? Really. Try quitting a two cup a day coffee habit, or giving up sugar completely. Same thing, really.

I don't buy this trope that modern weed is stronger. Back in the day we had great weed. What we have today is much less shitty dirt weed.

It's not a trope, it's lab results. There has been a vested interest in improved strains since the dawn of doobies~
