    00:16:41 - Example 3 - Joshua's conquest of Canaan
    00:20:33 - Example 4 - David and Solomon's empire
    00:25:35 - Example 5 - The significance of Omri
    00:34:08 - Example 6 - Centralized worship in Jerusalem

Hey, I've just realized that I've never ever thanked you. So, THANK YOU! Unknowingly you have helped me and many others, I am sure. I was baptized many years ago and slowly began to question my allegiance to "the truth". When I finally decided to leave, I was constantly looking for the signs of the final days, half believing that I had made an erroneous decision. When I discovered your channel it became a great comfort, so THANK YOU once again, you are amazing!

And if you were to research, you would be pulled into the back room - even if you quoted from the very book JeeWhova Gorbs quote from. So it’s not as if one would feel comfortable or safe doing the research.
I didn’t think to research it. They made me feel like they had dig in and did all the hard work for me. Good lord. So close to asking them to chew my food and spit it in my mouth for me. How embarrassing!!!

When I was about eleven we had an hour a week of religious instruction in our "secular" school. We were divided into Catholics and others, and us "others" would get a different cleric each week. Maybe an Anglican, a Presbyterian etc .I asked one a question about the impossibility of something in the bible and he was unable to answer me, in fact he reported me to the headmaster as a troublemaker who tried to disrupt his lesson. I became an agnostic that day and by the end of the year was an atheist! I bet whoever came each week was pleased when I finally went on to high school! I read the bible more than they could ever have hoped I would, but only to have a new question for whatever unfortunate that turned up each week. Nothing since then has ever made me question my decision!

In your intro, you echo exactly what I've been feeling during the last two years of my deconstruction. I don't really care if someone believes in a loving god or in an afterlife or whatever, but the moment someone hold up the words of mortal men as the inerrant word of a perfect god, they have a tendency to feel like it is their duty to use it as a cudgel to tell other people how to live their lives.

Another problem with the Joseph and Mary travelling story is why would the Romans care about where their ancestry was from? They wanted to know where you lived so they could know how much tax money to expect from a region. Another problem is that Mary and Joseph weren't yet married, so why would her parents allow her to travel to Bethlehem with Joseph? Sure, supposedly she was already pregnant, but that brings up other difficulties, like she should have been stoned to death for apparent promiscuity. Joseph as well since he didn't obviously deny being the father, so he had sex with a betrothed virgin before her wedding night. Deuteronomy makes it clear that's a stoning offense. And the bible makes it clear that he found out before their wedding night.

20 minutes in while window cleaning (of course haha) and loving it
When you were talking about people that believe the bible is historically accurate… I immediately thought of that exercise we did in the pioneer school - whether something is considered as direct evidence of bible inspiration, or not evidence but what you would expect gods word to contain. And you nailed it - historical accuracy is what you would expect of an inspired text, but not direct evidence as of course many old texts are historically accurate but of course not divinely inspired. Pioneer school flashback haha (I faded recently after finally admitting to myself I no longer believed)

I watched an interview with Israel Finkelstein a while back, and he made an interesting point about the exodus story in the Bible: it always only talks of "Pharaoh". It does not name him. Why not? In the historical Bible books, foreign kings and pharaohs are referred to by their names. Why does this not happen in the exodus story? Given that Moses supposedly had ample dealings with the man, wouldn't he have known his name? Why not use it? It thought that Finkelstein made a very good point. It reminds me of the wording used in fairy tales: it's always "the King" and "the Prince" etc. who do stuff, but they are never named. Because they are not actual people, they just made-up characters in a story.

The bible is the most beautiful love story, written by humans who evolved right in front of our eyes. (When you read it from start to finish) it's hard to miss the depth of this book when you read it like one. The point of the bible reveals itself to you as you evolve with the characters through the millennia. From trying to understand what God is, where He lives, what He wants from us. The absolutely horrific ways we mess up along the way is almost comical at times but towards the end you realize you're a changed person too. We still have a long way to go but we're better today than ever before in history. ❤

Both traditionalist and secular modernist historians are using exactly the same archaeological finds and document texts to support their viewpoints.
The difference is in the underlying assumptions and methodologies in their interpretations.
(For example, if one's assumption is that supernatural prophecies should not be considered possible in serious scholarly discussion, then the date of writing the seemingly fulfilled prophecies must actually be after the 'fulfilled' event. Whereas traditionalists might have no problem with the document's claim itself.)
Which of the two schools of scholarship we will give most credence will depend on our own underlying assumptions and personal life experience.
You can't separate the observer from the observation.

Rather it is the fact that the writers of the work make numerous assertions about Neobabylonian history (i.e. the order of various rulers) that are flatly wrong.

    • @b.w.7588

      @stephenbailey9969,
What you say about the scholarly divide is mostly true, but regarding Biblical prophecy, why should those specific prophecies be considered as having "more legitimacy" then any other sort of prophetic claims made by leaders or lay adherents of any other faith tradition (differing Christian faiths or non-Christian religions) who have lived at very various times throughout history? Should the widespread belief in ghosts or the immortal soul be discounted simply because many historians and scholars may not find convincing evidence that humans go on existing in immaterial forms after their mortal deaths? The historical Jesus likely did not hold to a belief in the concept of an immortal soul that separated from the body after death -- that concept became more popular in Christianity after the Apostle Paul's death -- but does that mean that that very concept is invalid?
This is where it gets tricky. How can one determine the "validity" or "invalidity" of any religion or supernatural concept? That isn't the place of scholars and historians to determine what is or is not an example of "correct" religious observance.

Finkelstein explained in an interview that the northern Kingdom of Israel (Samaria) was more powerful than the southern kingdom of Judah (Jerusalem), and that Israel may even have ruled over Judah. But then Israel was conquered and destroyed by the Assyrians, while Judah continued to exist and absorbed some refugees from Israel. And it was the Judahite writers who wrote the Bible books, and they were keen on aggrandizing Judah and painting their formerly powerful cousins in the north in the worst possible light. That's why all the northern, Israelite kings are bad! And that's why these writers invented the entire golden age under David and Solomon, to "prove" that the Jerusalem-based empire had in fact always been the real empire, and that those northerners were never anything more than an aberration.

I thought that at least some form of Exodus was plausible. Not necessarily from Israel but from somewhere else. Many nations have migrated from their urheimat before they created their countries. English people didn't always live in England. Their anchestors came from continental Europe. Their anchestors lived in southern Scandinavia and northern Germany as proto Germanics, their anchestors came from Indo-European urheimat. Israelites might be coming from somewhere else too. Or did they live in Israel from indefinite time onwards? At least, Hebrew is a branch of Semitic language, Arabic belongs to the same language family. Arabs spread during Islamic conquest. What is even more disappointing is you’ve chastised witnesses for confirmation bias and here you are doing it yourself. Talk about hypocrisy. And all the faithful followers on here that will take this information as gospel.
Dear follower of this guy GET OVER THERE YOURSELF and research yourself at the actual places then make an informed comment.
Loyd. Research where Mt Sinai is. The Jewish would have you believe it’s in Israel. So disappointed with this video.

It sounds like you're just mad at me for not repeating your preexisting views to you. I can only recommend sticking to Christian apologetics channels or, perhaps, a mirror.

Actually I don’t mind looking in the mirror😂. But seriously. Thanks for the reply . I have just spent as I said time actually over there. There is so so much evidence that the Israelites went through Jordan from Saudi Arabia so I just cannot agree with this expert
You quoted. There are actual hieroglyphics in Saudi Arabia of their journey. And grinding mills in stone etc. as for no evidence for Abraham or King David all I can say is I haven’t researched that. But to have 3 major religions who all point to Abraham seems significant. And also remember the so called experts for years said there was no evidence for Pontius Pilate so I’m very skeptical of experts.
I’m not saying you have to believe in god. But if there is no god then how did we get here? Aliens? Evolution? I’ve just finished reading yuval Harari’s book on evolution so I do believe I’m open to at least looking deeply into opinions and it would seem faith is required at some point in any field. It’s a shame you came back at me with that negative vibe. I thought you to be a better man than that. In any case I can agree to disagree without attacking you or your comment. But with all respect. I feel you definitely are using confirmation bias. I do however wish you well. My names Aaron Butterworth I live in warwick Australia. If ever over this way I’d be happy to show you around and have deeper talks👍

Given a choice between known, credible bible scholars and you, I'm afraid I have an easy choice as to who should educate my viewers and I. But thanks for at least trying to watch and learn from this video.

@@LloydEvans no worries and I see your point. Interesting past we’ve had. Just got off the phone to my elder dad who has disowned me. Mind blowing what the human brain can do in certain situations. In any case I wish you well. And as offered if ever over this way I’d be happy to show you around and drink beer. Have a good one.👍
