I did some research. What I found blew me away!
The new progressive Mayor, Mr. Wilmot Collins, and his wife became refugees in 1990 when forced to flee the incredibly bloody Liberian Civil War in West Africa. “ I was dying of starvation. The U.S. gave me a second chance. I will never abuse it.”
Mr. Collins and his wife, with the help of friends and neighbors, made a good life for themselves here in our beloved country. They bought a home, held down good jobs, him with Veterans Affairs, her a nurse. Their daughter is in the Navy. Their son is in university. Now, in a town with 93% white and .6% black folk, he has been elected Mayor. ~ In my eyes Mr. Collins and his family are a wonderful example of what and who makes America great. - peace

I don't know anything about Helena's new mayor, but I think it would be hilarious if his ancestors were brought to the US as slaves, freed and sent back to Africa as part of the Liberia project, then he finally comes back to the US and completes the cycle. Okay, that would be sad rather than hilarious because of slavery and all that, but wouldn't that be a cool backstory?

Winning is only the first half however. Let’s hope none of them somehow get caught in something stupid that will turn their win into something that encourages more people into extremism. I trust them, but reality is fickle.
