  • Earlier this year, students at the UNAH Experimental School in Tegucigalpa called me for help as they were studying in classrooms made 30 years ago with compressed cardboard. The walls were destroyed with large holes where thieves entered to steal the children's materials and computers. The roof was rotting and falling.
The children and parents asked me to completely remodel the school's 7 classrooms before it collapses on top of the students. When I realized that the school was created for the children of the university's cleaners, plumbers and gardeners, I knew I had to help them since when I was a university student in the United States, I also worked as a campus cleaner. But we had a problem. The budget to rebuild the school was 2.7 million lempiras. An amount that we did not have.
After contemplating the situation, I decided to embark on the craziest challenge of my life: run 250 kilometers from San Pedro Sula to Tegucigalpa. We had to endure heat strokes, knee pain, injuries, falls, and moments where we thought we could no longer move forward. But you accompanied me from the beginning and every day more people joined. Shoulders to shoulders, we crossed mountains and the longest roads in the country. With twenty thousand people, we crossed the final finish line at the national autonomous university where the children gave me a big hug. Businessmen, children, grandmothers, influencers, sponsors, university students and thousands of people donated to the campaign and we managed to break the goal. My team began rebuilding the school and I show you what we accomplished in just ten weeks.
