There's a suddenness expressed here concerning persecution. It had been occurring but without doubt this chapter points to a big movement set against Christians. We all need to be prepared whether subtle or otherwise for opposition. The best preparation for this is to make sure we are truly saved for it is then that we have nothing to fear. Note the lesson from a person called Simon! He'd made a profession of faith and had even be baptised but his heart still required major treatment to align with a follower of Jesus. May we all seek to have God honoring motives for all that we do!
