(Sherlock Holmes, Secret Garden, Heidi, Jules Verne books ) trying to learn french.. and to keep up my spanish in my books... I gave my Bible in Slovenian-- but can't read it, yet🙃🙂 ... GOOD!! I too was captivated with the O'Brian series and was devastated when he died. As a U.S. Coast Guard cadet, I had the thrill of sailing the 295-foot barque EAGLE to Europe and two years later to the Caribbean for summer training cruises. Our ports of call were Bergen, Norway, London, La Corǔna, Spain, and Bermuda, then San Juan, Santo Domingo, Curaçao and the St. Lawrence to Quebec. These are largely in the Aubrey-Maturin area of operations. That made the books more personal. I went on to become a CG officer and ship's officer and then aviator and served for 29 years.
At the beginning of February, I started reading Wuthering Heights for the first time. I feel like WH is for me, what Pickwick Papers will be for you this year. Just enjoying a classic work… of 1801 England. WH is very… rural and lonely. They gossip a lot. It’s really a tale of maintaining family balance amidst multiple characters vying for power in their own way.
Whuthering Heights is a good one. I feel like when all my kids are grown up and I have a lot more time on my hands I will go back and read all of those old classics again.
For me i will probably read again The Bronze Horseman trilogy. I read it last year and fell totally in love with the characters, storyline. It's in my top 5 reading books🙂☺️

You would see how someone from Slovenia discovered California - and learned how to live there That was over 60 years ago. I remember driving past your town on the way to Tahoe for 25 years...And now, my youngest comes to Washington place, (in California that is), quite regularly. It is, was, a small world.... The Master and Commander film adaptation was excellent. It's a pity they didn't continue with the series.
