i played fallout 1 and loved it. you talk about it as though the vast majority is chance but it's very much a numbers game. if you build your character right you'll do well, the game is very fun. you also do start with a weapon and can pick stuff off the corpse in the beginning cave. i did an unarmed build and started with brass knuckles, worked pretty good for me too. it's still really cool though to see people remake the original
Fallout 4 has some fantasy guns, but the assault rifle is basically sorta just a modified lewis machinegun which you have to modify back into being useful as a machinegun.
I look forward to seeing this come out fully realized, I enjoyed the story of fallout 1 and would much like to experience it again from a new perspective and generation of tech. RTX on
The fallout 4 graphics, lighting engine, textures..etc all undermine the vibe of Fallout 1, they are much much fitted within the Fallout 3 engine. Fallout 3 is sorta already a soft remake of Fallout 1, if done properly I can only imagine how good it could work
Thought the F4NV mod is kinda dead as Bethesda has hired developers to work for them. Don't know much about the FO4 Capital Wasteland mod though. The FNV Mexico/Sonora mod is also back in active development so we have that to look forward to!

VATS was created as a way of replacing the turn-based combat sistem in fallout 1 and 2, and from then has become a staple of the fallout franchise, so it probably won't be removed. Of you want to play a settlement-building game instead of an rpg, I Will suggest you to not play fallout
VATS or turn based attack are literally there since Fallout 1997. They even kept the same sound when you use your VATS in every game it isnt going anywhere
