  • In this rare film from 1999 Colum McCann reveals the background to his novel 'This Side Of Brightness'. He takes us into the belly of the New York Subway where all sorts of drop outs from society have taken up residence. The stories and research Colum undertook resulted in the creation of Nathan Walker, the main protagonist of his novel. The film captures McCann at an early stage in his career. He would later gain worldwide acclaim for his novels 'Let the Great World Spin' and 'Transatlantic'.
Director: Susie Fallon Date: 20/01/1999 Duration: 10 mins
This film was first featured as part of Loopline Film's book series 'Imprint' which was produced for RTE.

This is great! Thanks so much for sharing it. Love Colum McCann and am reading "Transatlantic" at this very moment. It is really wonderful to see him at this early point in his writing career.
