Just wondering but would the image on the screen be magnified by the strobe light and so it is the wavelength of the magnified wave but not the actual wavelength? Would you need to work out the actual wavelength of the wave for GCSE?
Hi, good question. The tank is really shallow, so any magnification would be negligible, so wavelength on the screen will be the wavelength of the water wave.
If you remember the light gates measures acceleration you’re half way there. Acceleration is the change in velocity(speed) over time. So, having the card of that specific shape means the light gate measures the speed of the first bit of card that goes through the light gate, then the speed of the second bit of card. It also measures the time difference between both pieces of card passing through. It then is connected to a computer which uses these calculations to calculate the change in speed (difference in speed of the first bit of card versus the speed of the second bit of card) over time - this is the acceleration.
