Another thing that could happen when the pilot perseveres that they're too low, is flaring the aeroplane too early resulting in a hard landing and/or structural damage from the stall speed having been reached whilst still airborne.

The part I have never understood is if a narrow runway causes a high approach illusion, why does an upsloping runway cause the same illusion? It should cause an illusion that you are lower as the runway will appear closer.
