  • In this video I show the common techniques used to add moss to a bonsai pot.
    once you have found moss, you can use one of these techniques to add it to your bonsai pot.
    once its been added, you just need to leave it to establish and grow in. Within a few months the soil in you bonsai pot will have a lovely cover of moss on it.

    Nice technique. Thanks! That was cool to see all the fine roots under the stone on the surface.

      Cheers. I was pretty pumped about the roots. I found that tree in a terrible state, so seeing those was very nice 👍

    I once lived in an area in South Carolina called "Mossy Oaks"...never thought of that until now. Lol. Solid info in this video. I look forward to temps that support a mossy environment again. Happy Sunday my friend.

      @@BackGardenBonsai it was a Spanish moss that grew on the trees. Look up "low country spanish moss"

      Ah yes I know the stuff. Its always hanging on those big oak trees in plantations. Looks cool, it’s a shame they are tarnished with a terrible past :(

    I always clean my wild moss! Just a bowl of water and let the moss sit in it for a while, get rid of a lot of pests that live in the moss!

    I have an indoor Ficus Bonsai tree, just put some moss around and sprayed it with water, my question, how many times should I spray the moss? 🌱

    • @BackGardenBonsai
      @BackGardenBonsai  7 месяцев назад

      i wouldnt spray it at all just water your tree and the moss will get enough water. (as will your tree). although this only works if you are pouring water from above, directly onto the soil/moss

    I tried but fertilizer granules just burn moss.
    Is there a way to have moss and ferlizer as well.

    • @BackGardenBonsai
      @BackGardenBonsai  2 года назад +1

      use organic fertilser, it shouldnt cause any burn

    Moss i put on my pot dried and died(I guess) so fast. It's so dry and dark faded green right now. What do you recommend?

    • @BackGardenBonsai
      @BackGardenBonsai  2 года назад +2

      just leave it and keep watering the tree so the moss gets wet too. it will hopefully bounce back. but certain mosses like certain conditions better so give it a few months and see what happens. if its definitely dead try another one that is growing in a similar condition to your pots. i dont even add moss any more. it just grows on its own now

    So is removing the moss and placing it on my soil without chopping gonna work?

    • @BackGardenBonsai
      @BackGardenBonsai  Месяц назад +1

      yes. just make sure the bottom of the moss is firmly pressed into the soil and it will grow. you dont need to chop it up (but you can if you want to)
