    The National Organization on Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (NOFAS) is the leading voice and resource of the Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) community. Founded in 1990, NOFAS is the only international non-profit organization committed solely to FASD primary prevention, advocacy and support.
    NOFAS seeks to create a global community free of alcohol-exposed pregnancies and a society supportive of individuals already living with FASD. NOFAS effectively increases public awareness and mobilizes grassroots action in diverse communities and represents the interests of persons with FASD and their caregivers as the liaison to researchers and policymakers. By ensuring that FASD is broadly recognized as a developmental disability, NOFAS strives to reduce the stigma and improve the quality of life for affected individuals and families.

    Wow. I'm a Social Worker, working with teenagers with a variety of disabilities, including FASD. Just wanted to say that your son is amazing, and you sound like a great advocate for him. Your comments about what the school system needs to do are on point.

    Although my son with FASD is now 22 we went through the same thing when he was in school. I got so sick and tired of the IEP meetings and having to tell each teacher, each year about the FAS. It made me angry and frustrated me. At one point I pulled him out and home-schooled him. Now he has been out of school since '08 and is taking CNA classes. He has worked very part time jobs until now, college was not an option for him because it is just to much for him.

    Fasd for me has 3 triggers;
    1. Brain to mouth(trying to formulate sentences)
    2. Ear to brain (hearing or listening)
    3.tunnel focus (unwavered focus)
    1.If im brain to mouthing and ear to brain happens my brain to mouth is gone or the other person becomes offended..
    2.If im trying to ear to brain and my brain to mouth happens then ì miss everything. And thus in lies my disability.
    3.If i am focused on something i miss most things

    I had lots of kids in my class with FAS. A regular classroom is very hard for these kids, because "sitting still" or "sitting quietly" is difficult. Come to think of it, "sitting quietly" is hard for any kid.
    I found that kids with FAS or ADHD need lots of physical activity. TV and video games should not be allowed in the home.

    Wow, Chris is rather cute! He doesn't look like he has FAS or any kind of disability at all. In fact he reminds me of some of the popular football jocks in high school that a lot of the girls swooned after. But yeah, I have learning disabilities including FAE so believe me, I know how hard it is! Hang in there, Chris.
