High quality looking bobber. I could see it lasting forever with that much care and hard work. What a fun project. You can get it just the way you want it!
Got these thinking they were the slightly larger Panfish floats ruclips.net/user/postUgkx_rJB7cli5f1ofPVGgn80S7Yj4vqwq0gU they work just fine. The smaller size lets me carry more in my tackle box, and the 3 color choices are nice for different lighting conditions, backgrounds, etc. They aren't the most durable things in the world. But, as cheap as they are, it's not heartbreaking to lose one or have to replace a worn one. The price on these fluctuates wildly, from about $9 to almost $16. So, time your buy accordingly.
I'd be afraid to fish them unless I was on my boat for loosing one, that's how nice they are! always well done, narration as well as the build. thanks again, Paul.
Hola Paul, I do not have words to express about your great work and creativity of your tools... I just love it. Even though I do not have too many opportunities to use these bobbers, I will do some for my fishings when I go up to the highlands. Thanks Paul for sharing your work, ideas, tips and all.... Receive big regards from Peru!!!
The leader has zero stretch to it ruclips.net/user/postUgkxOnWw4BwVtrW450xWozo3OpVX4931NDw5 which is expected from a wire leader. Can’t test the quality of all the snaps yet but packaging was nice and neat and I couldn’t get anything to happen when I pulled on it.
Great idea about that dipping machine , Paul,.........your solutions displayed in your very well made clips amaze me time and time again , ........greetings , Dieter
61diemai Thanks Dieter, I went through all kinds of bonkers ideas with this before coming back to some simple things, and avoiding spending money, I am still surprised by the lathe, it seams to have a million uses, I am not entirely sure yet I wont have that powering a prop in my canoe.
***** I surely do trust you to design a canoe drive utilizing such oldtime cranking drills , Paul , ......you might have to look for one with a more favourable transmission of the gear wheels , though . Greetings , Dieter
I've said it before ***** and I'll say it again. I absolutely love watching your videos and your video style. So pleasant to see thoughts and ideas come to life. Thanks for sharing!!
this is so well done, the video, the instructions, the storyline method, very pleasant to watch and easy on the ears. it just flows very well. thanks.I am making some for myself and this just says it all. Now if I can only find the reed material locally.
+Paul Adams (The Handmade Fisherman) I think people notice your site. Post your RUclips on all your fishing forums. I subscribed and I did enjoy how they were made. Do you sell your batch you make??? If so. Send me link. Thanks. Anyway keep up the great videos.
John Pendleton I started out with this video using the cordless battery drill, but I gave the hand drill lathe a try which I haven't really used for a while and it just made sense, so I stuck with it. Thanks
Hey I just wanted to say thank you for posting these float making videos! I honestly never thought about making one myself until a few days ago, now I am fascinated. This video and your one part vid offers a lot of tips & tricks that will really help when I make my first one :-)
MrFishyPickle or dear it starts with fascination and it ends with boxes of home-made floats, but you will never be short of friends once you start giving them away
For now, I'm discovering fishing, as I'm a beginner. Your movies make an amazing impression, and the ideas they contain are amazing - perfect in their simplicity - thank you very much for the content they carry.
Paul when are you releasing part 2 bud ?? My appols bud yes you have made another brill vid ive asked the above first as your painting jig court my eye it looks exalent for any float builder. All the best Daz
Wow! I am not sure what to say. The video and floats are gorgeous. I thought that had was doing my part in keeping the lost art of fly tying alive. I think I have found a new hoppy to add to the collection. What kind of reeds do you use? Thank you.
great video, just a thought paul, with your shedman logic and obvious recycling ethic have you ever thought of converting an old peddle style sewing machine to operate your lathe and revolving bits and bobs, you could use all kinds of wonderful pulleys. as i said just a thought, looking forward to more excellent videos
+Gary Billington My original plan was to use a cordless drill, but to honest this was far more controllable and just kept making sense, so I never felt a need to go beyond it as the extra power was not going to give anything. but maybe in the future, thanks
Wow! Then I shouldn't have too much trouble finding some. Along much of the east coast of NSW, we catch a species of fish called Luderick or more commonly "blackfish" (Girella tricuspidata). They are traditionally caught using a float rig very similar to the floats you make with balsa wood. You can check it out on RUclips :) I make my floats almost exactly the way you do, but for a change, I would like to make some from the reed stems as to the best of my knowledge, nobody uses them for blackfishing over here and it would be very interesting to give it a go.
Oh ok. I tend to use floats with jigs,as i rarely use bait for freshwater fishing. I do fish really light jigs sometimes so the float I made should be fine for that.
JustRandomThings thanks, I think i spent a bit too long in front of the tv as a child but a lot of t comes from watching tutorials on youtube and also some experience of photography

I am not sure you can but you can harvest them, they grow pretty much around the world anywhere there is shallow water
Oh thank you! I live in Sydney, Australia so I will try to locate some :)
I think you're in luck the latin name is Phragmites australis, named after your home

nice work! I tryed making a float like yours out of pieces of bamboo. it will only float really light jigs like 1/64 oz.
sgtpavlov I tend to only use these with light weights myself, but not for jig fishing I use with baited hooks for silver fish mainly
Oh ok. I tend to use floats with jigs,as i rarely use bait for freshwater fishing. I do fish really light jigs sometimes so the float I made should be fine for that.
