Never played LOTRO, not sure why this video was recommended to me. I did watch the whole thing because I'm a fan of the books and movies, plus your personality is great! Looking forward to watching more in this series :)
@J R hmm i don't know... f2p seems way too much restricted... i don't know about even questing... is there more quests after lvl 20? i don't know because i never played this game to be honest ...

The book quests have the Epic Story line that is completly free all the way to max lvl. So a new player can hust folow the book quests and do some Missions and some scaling instances to go up a few lvls. But now the gave is completly free till lvl 95 with all maps and quests
Nice video! I've been playing since 2008 and I got a lifetime membership at that time, so it's very interesting to see what the FTP experience is. Honestly, that was the best investment I've ever made in a game, and it's the reason why I'm still able to hang out and play with friends once a week. I'm looking forward to more.
This brings some memories! I used to play F2P LotRO back in highschool, as I couldn't afford a paid account. I loved the game, even though I had to grind like crazy. The moments I've spend with friends in game were more than worth to spend the time grinding mobs and reputations, especially when we used to gather in Bree and play music together, gathering even more people around us. LotRO in my opinion is one of the games with the best community, don't know how that's aged though, it has been ages since I've played. Overall I loved the vid and I wish you good luck on your adventure, I'll be checking from time to time! :)
I have played since the first day, one of the best lore made games i have ever seen. Even with an old engine the graphics are nice. If you know where to look even after 15 years i seen new things and learn about easter eggs i never knew were there. Again, amazing game and wonderful way to spend your time in middle-earth.
I don't know who you are or why I am here. I've never played LOTRO, but I've enjoyed the way you've presented yourself and the game. Think I'll sub and see how the adventures unfold.
I remember those days before VIP lol. Ran skirmishes and epic instances up to 55 and then went with moria instances up until 65 when I got rift of nurz ghashu.. Farmed that up to 85 which was the cap at the time. Crazy stuff

This video makes me want to start fresh and do the same thing with points. Sometimes, when all you have are memories with friends, it ruins a game for a person, and it's best to begin like it's new.
the main difference ive found between running f2p and paid content is the ability to choose your quest locations. that being said, using the tp/lp you farm from fully deeding each area and knockin out your beginner race deeds will net you the tp needed to open up the next couple areas for leveling. angmar, misty mountains, annuminas, and eregion offer the best leveling capabilities with deeds, quests and exploration. and the way the quests chain allows you to pick an entire grouping up at once and return together for a fat jump in your leveling. the main hiccup i found was getting into moria. as the expac is or was 2400ish last i looked. I solved this issue with slayer completions, as the exploration and slayer deeds are unlocked in all areas regardless of your quest availability. Bear in mind i did this before the release of RoR, or any of the xpacs that took us beyond lvl 75. my favorite part was the exploration.
Yeah, that is something we are definitely keeping an eye out for, recently grabbed one of the quest packs on the sale, so that was able to save us some points that can go elsewhere.
I did this must have been about 10 years ago now, got level 85 with a fancy mount without paying anything. It's a grind to unlock new areas, you got to do every task for the TP points and you got to do it on several characters. After you unlock a new area it'll become available for all your characters, you grind out the points in each area you unlock and spend the points on new areas. Since I was new and enjoyed testing the classes it wasn't a big deal but when you reach 85 it's a dead end. Nothing to do and you'll not be able to do pvp because your gear is crap since you haven't had access to fancy dungeons.
A bit late, but LotRO is currently giving away all their basic questing areas for free ahead of the new expansion, and selling the zone/instance packs for 99LP each. I had about 600 LP saved up from playing free off and on for a long time, and managed to buy most all the quests and zones in the game. Woo!
I jumped into the game around 2-3 months before the 1st expansion / Mines of Moria released. I was doing okay, lot's of people around willing to 'help'. Then the expansion released and all the players whom had been at cap forever suddenly got new content and they were 'gone'. Suddenly the rest of the world felt like a ghost town. With no help on the harder group content which included the 'Book' content, my progress screeched to a halt. I ended up leaving the game for a few years and returned after they overhauled it with a mechanic which allowed solo play in the elite book quest content. I did subscribe a year at a time twice and even if I didn't play for months - I accrued enough LotRo points to purchase everything after Mines of Moria up to and including Helms Deep, and a boost to level 95 (I believe) which allowed me to play all the elite stuff (not part of the Books) until around level 70+ which would have taken 5+ players working together. The elite stuff forces aggro regardless of level difference - unlike the 'open world'. Soloing Dol Guldur was satisfying..... Once one is only around 20 levels above the Nemesis and Arch Nemesis enemies, it's easy to get overwhelmed with scripted fights spawning bad guys.
I'm currently leveling a Lore-Master. I love this game. My only negative would be how buggy it is. I've played pet classes in dozens of MMO's, and talk about buggy. When you have your pet on guard, it is support to attack and support you, but it just stands there, and you have to smash the pet attack button. When it decides to attack it will.
So, in years of playing the LM pets aren't something I've known to be buggy. Are you aware there are different 'stances' for your pet to be passive or aggressive? Really helps :)
I've played LOTRO since 2009 as a VIP. I'm on Arkenstone also and my prime is an Elf Hunter but I have 11 characters total. One of everything. My prime is at 130 level and the rest all at 115 at least. I've collected lot's of free Lotro points along the way, but have tossed in enough pocket change to make me wince. But the game has occupied my time well. I can play solo or in a clan, be peaceful in my approach or very warlike. The worlds are occupied by friendly people and overall it is enjoyable. Thx for the vid. Was good to see interest in it still.
Wtf LOTRO-focused channel? Played this game for a few weeks with a friend back when I was a child, 600+ episodes is crazy I'll have fun binging your videos
I used to play this game a lot. It was one of the best gaming experience I had, ever. There is something truly magical in Middle Earth and LOTRO captured it pretty well (despite all the pay to win aspects). Ahhh the memories.... :)
Starting a fresh account on free to play MMOs these days is so hard. There are so many penalties and restrictions. It's no wonder people stop playing if you have to game the system with multiple characters just to unlock something as basic as holding more than 2 gold on your account. Also see your bags are full all the time, not fun to have to be managing it when you could be playing the game instead. So many others MMOs suffer these same problems and expect you to open up your wallet very quickly before the barriers to entry come down. It's good you do these videos as most veterans don't realise the new player struggle as they have everything unlocked already or have subscriber account privilege.
Yeah, it is a little frustrating, but that's why I've been doing some streams where I help a group get around 550LP in a run where I do all the work to hopfully get them over the initial restrictions of the game, it's been pretty fun and I'm hoping to continue with them in the future to help those that need it.
When I used to farm Shire points I'd restore the quick post. It's on foot but takes you through most of the exploration deed areas, is a deed in itself and iirc gave you points for a questing deed. Never timed it to see if it'd have been faster to skip it but it felt nicer and more productive than going back to Erid Luin again.
Yeah, that's something we worked out could be worth doing for the extra 15 points after slayer is done, so every once in a while when we head to the shire we also do that one, if pies didn't take so long that would another couple of points extra as well
This is an interesting idea. I am curious how the more expensive purchases are going to pan out time wise. I have a feeling this is going to be a daunting task once expansions are concerned, particularly Moria as it comes after needing at minimum 2 ered luin quest packs
What I did was spread out my quest pack unlocks depending on the level range I need content for and skipped Moria's. It's quite doable. What I did was Trollshaws (30+/-), Forochel (40+/-), some Sarnur (50+/-), some free instancing and festivals in between, and the Book quests through the levels, and then took Lothlorien for after Moria's book quests. That wasn't without long breaks or committing to a new character in between, though, so I don't know if that plan is viable with one focused character played continuously and regularly.
Your new series definitely looks interesting. As F2P, your only option for the riding skill is going to be by purchasing it from the store for 95 LP. Only VIP can do the quest at Hengstacer Farms to learn it. Also, assuming you'll be point farming, any plans to do an updated video on how to get Lotro points?
I think the current plan is I'm going to be trying out a few different ways since there have been a lot of changes to methods since my video about it and then once I think we've got a good route I'll make a video going through it all.
@@Zogog I think that would be extremely helpful to people looking to try F2P. Also, whether it's part of this series or a one off video, maybe a discussion of the differences between F2P, premium and VIP and what each offers?
As an f2p player from the start (still f2p never spent money) who’s made it to end game raiding, you def end up over leveling a lot on the free content. I started during the free content time so it was much easier. But still it boils down to a crap ton of deeding(which i did cuz I had way more time during lockdowns). Running through all the deeds in shire Bree and thorins hall/beleriand gets you about 300 lp or so I think? Which is enough for riding and good to get started working towards a quest pack. It’s super grindy tho and having a kin to craft armor and weapons makes saving cash a bit easier too
I literally restarted as well... Haven't played in 6 years and I started in 2010. I Mained a burg on brandy and now I'm on ark all new character after I subbed for 3 months and got the rest of the content I was missing.
Hard to believe LOTRO has been out for 14 years now. I remember having to buy a PC Gamer Magazine to get a code to play in the closed beta. Still have my founders account to this day.
My first time i played this game yeas ago i was so lost lol Then i returned to it a year ago and tried getting somewhere during some sort of a festival but ended up quiting since there weren't many players of my lvl in the server. Great video, keep it up :)
Both my chars (beorn and guard) have never left Mirkwood. I'm actually terrified of starting Dunland and Rohan, just because of how massive those areas are. I've completed pretty much everything else tho, aside from some raid/instance/skirm deeds. Gimme dat LOTRO point money, son!
ive been playing lotro since it dropped and ive recorded a series from level 1 to 65 f2p only. This is going to be a good series for people that want to get into lotro but dont want to make a monetary jump into the game.
What resolution are you playing the game on, if I might ask? With a 4k monitor, the game is functionally unplayable of I intend on actually seeing any information on my screen. No news on UI scaling any time soon, eh?
My main monitor is 3440x1440, but for the videos I change it to 2560x1440 which I think it the sweet spot really. I can't say for sure, but I do know it was a topic brought up on Cordovan's stream the other day, so hopefully there may be something in the works soon.
DAMN this makes me wanna go back. Especially as I never get that far into it (lvl 20-something only). Had some great adventures with the community tho :v Cool vid :D
Well. if all things go as planned, there will be a proper new Let's Play coming out in the near future with a new character, should be a bit more often than this will be.
Never even seen this game before but THAT is the grind necessary JUST to unlock somthing that arbitrarily allows you to carry more money. . . Ive never been more put off a game in my life.
I reaaaaally wanted to play again, as I had over 15,000 points and bought all kinds of expansions and addon stuff on sale from when I played ages ago, but my character is on an old server that they 'might be able to transfer in the future'. I have my account now, I just have NONE of my old characters and cant play them, and I worked soooo many hours leveling up my monster spider from scratch in pvp >.< I dont have it in me to start all over again. I never even got past level 25 before lol!!! It was aaaaalllll about PVM
I played it when it first came out. An Elf Bard even one of the few people who uploaded compositions and I remember couldn't getting past level 40's as the Mobs got outrageously hard and usually I do things solo so that killed my enthusiasm to play. I remember having 6 characters but I don't remember buying them. I don't remember buying half this stuff. It's mind-boggling. I think I'll stick with ESO.
just tried to go back. had the only player yell and curse at me and my wife trying to duel us for whatever reason so i did and gave him a beat down followed by us leaving as all the money that has to be dumped into it ontop of that wasnt worth it
I'm sorry to hear that, personally I've never had any issues like that with players, but if you decide to give it another chance I'm more than willing to help you out where possible. Hopefully one not nice person doesn't sour the whole community for you.
@@Zogog there were no other players ... we were on day 3 . i like playing healers so basically pointless to play with no people. waiting on pantheon alpha this year as brad was the creator of 3d mmorpgs online pretty much ill be sticking with developers like that instead of money hungry greedy goblin developers who only care about money and not the fun of the game which took me to another point if the population is low how would one even play a healer , ill pick the group class so i can solo to end game just to play with the small populous there? there were many factors of why i didnt want to play or bother, 30 years of game experience i can pick up on the bs fairly quickly. if these developers actually made the game for the passion of it being fun with Lord of the rings then the game would not be as dead. Everquest has many full servers and is much older....just as an example also if im not saying me or anyone should but if someone did make a private server of lotro i would bet my life on that server being more populated then any server live version currently has , and because the developers are money goblins they will never let this happen as they do not care for the game it self it shows in the game transactions period.
is this the same game from like 2009? I remember having a lot of fun for a short while with it. The first dgn i did took like 6 hours though and people left halfway through.
Id say it's worth giving it a shot, it is F2P after all, this series might not show it due to the nature of what we are trying to do, but you can easily get through the first four regions without having to worry about purchasing expansion or quest packs, so hopefully by then you'll be able to make a decision on if you want to continue, and I'm always down to help people out getting more LP if you want to continue from there.
This randomly popped up on my feed, decided to check it out to see if it's something worth getting into again. This seems awfully redundant gameplay. The best way to get stuff is by creating/deleting characters? Almost 11 hours to get unlocked currency? Doesn't seem particularly fun & such a massive grind. Seems like hell of a grind.
To be fair, this isn't exactly the expected way to play this considering with just one character playing through the initial 4 areas would net you 750+ points easily allowing you to continue to the next regions without issue. This is just more of a challenge to see how far we can get and how long it will take, which going into this I knew would be an incredibly long time, I just like pushing the envelope to see how far we can take things like this.
I start the game in 2016 as f2p, gathering TP later change to LP in (ered luin, shire and bree ) by creating char fill the deed on each area then deleted doing them rinse and repeat. I stoped after the latest developer start gating the rep item, but i am still playing in brandywine server.
I need help! I know the YT comment section is NOT the place to ask this kind of question lol, but I’ve been having so many issues trying to get LOTRO. I’ve tried downloading both from the actual website and from Steam, but both come with the issue where during installing, it stops at a certain point and pretty much leaves you with no option but to restart the download. Anyone have any tips or if possible, could you please tell me the best way to download!
You can earn points by completing deeds which are essentially kill and exploration quests. It could take you 7-15 hours or so or you can spend a few dollars if you like the game. I took the slow route because I love LoTR and I would just buy the content you want dude. Do research first tho
I've never played and i had no idea why you wanted that currency cap, but now i can't believe how insanely money hungry this game is. no wonder it's not popular.
I have no idea why this was recommended to me, but as someone who has never played this game I also have no idea what the hell you were doing at any time.
I'm an OG LOTRO player and if you can immerse yourself in the game's complexity it is initially rewarding. But if you take a long break from the game and try to return its somewhat overwhelming. It feels like a 52 card pickup. I liked the Legendary system when they released it but complex systems like that was ultimately dragging the game down and detracting from the LOTRO story and immersion. In my opinion anyway.
That is something I plan on doing, having a separate video to explain a little better some of the things I go through on this series. Lemme know if there is something in particular you want to know more about from this one.
@@Zogog I woulnd't mind knowimg more about Deeds and all the different kinds of them as you complete them! I saw you completed Slayer Deeds, which I guess come from killing X number of mobs... And they have some kind of scaling? like bronze is 10 kills, silver is 100 etc etc?
i start to play this game few months ago,i was looking for Free to Play game. Like many other games Lotro is not Free at all...first month i play only to have enough to buy Bag-inventory space for all the items and craft materials.then from lev 50 you need Credit Card to start to buy the Regions like Moria,or spend few years to have the thousands Lotro points you need...now i'm lv 130 and stuck, because can't buy The last expansion,no way i spend more money,or long hours-weeks just for the points....
Oh I totally agree it's not the best way to play the game, even just paying for 1 thing and getting premium is so worth it compared to this, but the main purpose is just to prove it is possible for the game to be fully F2P, as much as I wouldn't suggest playing like this.
Never played LOTRO, not sure why this video was recommended to me. I did watch the whole thing because I'm a fan of the books and movies, plus your personality is great! Looking forward to watching more in this series :)
Kinda the same to be honest XD
Well it's the same for me

So many others MMOs suffer these same problems and expect you to open up your wallet very quickly before the barriers to entry come down. It's good you do these videos as most veterans don't realise the new player struggle as they have everything unlocked already or have subscriber account privilege.
Yeah, it is a little frustrating, but that's why I've been doing some streams where I help a group get around 550LP in a run where I do all the work to hopfully get them over the initial restrictions of the game, it's been pretty fun and I'm hoping to continue with them in the future to help those that need it.
how so you change the UI and how do you have so much space on your bag?
what is the first stream for this video called i wanna watch the whole thing if theres one
Before you enter middle earth you need to pass the gatekeeper, the mtx store.
how did you make your task bar transparent and all the icons centered?
To make my taskbar transparent I used "Classic Shell" and just changed the taskbar opacity to 0% and to center the icons I use a program call TaskbarX
Hmm, that sounds like a good idea, I'll look into it.
It’s super grindy tho and having a kin to craft armor and weapons makes saving cash a bit easier too
Hey dude, never seen your channel before but this was in my recommended. I've been curious about this game for a long time so I subbed.
Goddamn, there are still those micro freezes. They completely kill any of my motivation to return to the game
You have got to be kidding.... I thought is was my rig back in the day.
@@CyBarn nope. Its the damn game. And i loved that damn game.
I have 0 freezes
@@fufu1405 Are you sure? You dont have any of those annoying stutters that last a few frames?
Are you US based or EU? What rig are you using?
@@damir4132 EU, RTX 2070 & Ryzen 5 3600.
Love this game. Been playing it over and over again since it first came out what seems like decades ago.
What do you like most about the game?
I started playing LOTRO because of this video, thanks man!
Awesome!, if you're on either Arkenstone or Evernight lemme know if you need some help and I can try to give you a hand with stuff if you need.
Still have my founders account to this day.
i remember it taking a REALLY LONG TIME lmao
They sped up the leveling process
What kind of addons are you using?
I don't know why this is on my front page, but I do play mmo's myself so I will definitely be watching this series
Wanted to start playing this game as a f2p which server is better to start and has more population?
The expansions and quests that i have for free on a redeem code sometime ago is account binded, character binded or server binded?
The expansions and quest packs will be account wide, so you could join any server and you will still have them unlocked.
@@Zogog yey thank you very much!!
Ancient player here
The game looks good for how old it is.
DAMN this makes me wanna go back. Especially as I never get that far into it (lvl 20-something only). Had some great adventures with the community tho :v Cool vid :D
not sure why this was recomended to me and why I like it. Great video. I'm addicted.
Only game I stay subscribed with. Can't wait to see more. Maybe see you in world sometime.
Ive watched you for a very long time, I just figured out you main the same server as me haha
Nice! Maybe we'l cross paths with eachother sometime.
WOOOO NEW LETS PLAY
Well. if all things go as planned, there will be a proper new Let's Play coming out in the near future with a new character, should be a bit more often than this will be.
how do you download this game?? doesn't work for me every time I try?
Steam
can't believe this game is still running
It looks as if you're using some mods, unless these are expansion upgrades?
The only non vanilla thing I use, at least on this account is a different skin to the normal one if that's what you are noticing.
Never even seen this game before but THAT is the grind necessary JUST to unlock somthing that arbitrarily allows you to carry more money. . . Ive never been more put off a game in my life.
Love this channel. So cozy
I think I'll stick with ESO.
just tried to go back. had the only player yell and curse at me and my wife trying to duel us for whatever reason so i did and gave him a beat down followed by us leaving as all the money that has to be dumped into it ontop of that wasnt worth it
Cheers Craig.
Everquest has many full servers and is much older....just as an example
also if im not saying me or anyone should but if someone did make a private server of lotro i would bet my life on that server being more populated then any server live version currently has , and because the developers are money goblins they will never let this happen as they do not care for the game it self it shows in the game transactions period.
is this the same game from like 2009? I remember having a lot of fun for a short while with it. The first dgn i did took like 6 hours though and people left halfway through.
So as a person who loves gaming and WoW, is this game worth trying out? I have been wanting to but havent had that extra push to actually get it?
Id say it's worth giving it a shot, it is F2P after all, this series might not show it due to the nature of what we are trying to do, but you can easily get through the first four regions without having to worry about purchasing expansion or quest packs, so hopefully by then you'll be able to make a decision on if you want to continue, and I'm always down to help people out getting more LP if you want to continue from there.
God no
WoW, BDO, ESO, GW2, FF
Pick you poison
Playing one of the largest money sink MMO's as free to play, man you have some patience.
Is this game worth playing as a new player in 2021?
for sure
I need help! I know the YT comment section is NOT the place to ask this kind of question lol, but I’ve been having so many issues trying to get LOTRO. I’ve tried downloading both from the actual website and from Steam, but both come with the issue where during installing, it stops at a certain point and pretty much leaves you with no option but to restart the download. Anyone have any tips or if possible, could you please tell me the best way to download!
You don't have enough space on your hard drive to download the whole game, steam won't tell you sometimes that you don't have enough space.
@@Waybackwhennn That does make sense, thank you very much!
.."..a wise choice, Hunter.."...Master Yoda
LOTRO RuneScape Ironman mode edition
I've never played this. It looks very cash shop focused. Does this detract from the experience?
Lotro points are earned through play right?
You can earn points by completing deeds which are essentially kill and exploration quests. It could take you 7-15 hours or so or you can spend a few dollars if you like the game. I took the slow route because I love LoTR and I would just buy the content you want dude. Do research first tho
I've never played and i had no idea why you wanted that currency cap, but now i can't believe how insanely money hungry this game is. no wonder it's not popular.
Great content
i really like the idea of this challenge and will be trying myself the downside is my knowledge of the game is almost none
awesome vid, but mind giving details about your desktop, it looks so clean
Honestly it's not normally that clean, I just turned off my desktop icons when I recorded the beginning bit to make it look better for the video.
Wow haven’t played this game in eons. The LOTRO store looks vile... Bobby Kotick is calling...
How do you get that much FPS????
Considering the way they do Virtue in LOTRO now, its pretty important to get the XP. Gods I miss the days of non p2p lotro.
p2p?
@@decoutan3900 p2p= Pay to play. I think they meant p2w.
wouldn't mind a bit more tutorial-ish info from time to time, it's hard to catch everything as a newbie!
Awesome!!! It's cool to see free-to-play dose work. It kinda might not be worth it. But at least it's really free to play! haha.
Oh I totally agree it's not the best way to play the game, even just paying for 1 thing and getting premium is so worth it compared to this, but the main purpose is just to prove it is possible for the game to be fully F2P, as much as I wouldn't suggest playing like this.
They should really make an overhaul of the game.. i would totaly play it.
Excited to see this! :-)
I am a new player and this video has made me realise all my mistakes
Wish people still played this game it looks sick
I've never played this game but this feels nostalgic as fuck.
