If you need to start a concrete floor leveling and you don't have any experience, you should watch this video! It has lot's of small tricks for beginners. Don't for get to leave your questions here. I always happy to help you!
This makes me feel like I actually can do it. I've watched so many other videos that overcomplicate the process. Can't thank you enough.
Yes, you can.
Best tips ever, I have watched loads of videos for hints and tips, this is by far the most easily explained, most easily to understand method that I have come across, thank you
Glad it was helpful!
This is such an incredibly good video!!!!! I caught many tips but the way you show it and do the work, gives me the confidence to get this done! Thank you!

You are so awesome! Thank you I’m looking at leveling some areas of my concrete floor to install laminate wood flooring. All of your videos have helped me so much.
Great! Thanks for watching and commenting!
The sponge trick is genius never thought about it
Yes, most of time I am using drywall but this more easy to do. Thanks for watching and commenting!
This stuff is anything but self leveling. Your way is the best I have seen yet, very well done. Thank you.
Very appreciate for your comment.
I have been working on leveling a large area that was almost 6" low at one end. We poured 74 bags of 80# concrete and then I began pouring the leveling compound. 32 bags later and I'm almost there! I have a few areas that have about a 1/8" gap and was thinking of just using a trowel but see where the straight edge is very helpful. Also, using a sponge to feather the edges is something I never did, but will do when I go back to fill the small gaps. Thank you! I am confident that I can now finish this floor and then install engineered flooring over it.
Good luck for your project!

Thank you so much for showing so many details! I will do everything I can to repay you for the help this is to me.
Thank you so much, my friend, for watching and commenting!
Again very good information. What I've discovered is that if you mix the self leveling compound as you did . You can than use a 1 litre jug and pour it down. I just keep doing that until the whole floor is covered and let the leveling compound do it work ...thanks again Mr fix it.

You have the best floor leveling videos on RUclips, Thank you! We need to level a 250 sq.ft. concrete basement floor but have been told that the primer doesn't stick to sealed concrete. Is it true that we must sand or grind the concrete first?
Yes, you have to remove sealer.
@@MrYoucandoityourself Thank you again!
A much better idea to achieve a good result by using the screeder! Brilliant. I can do this now. Thankyou.

Thank you very much for taking the time creating such valuable content. I have an area which had a glued down carpet on a cement foundation. Would you use the self leveling method when you know you have first to grind down to the concrete removing the glue? Is there a leveling product out there which can be used over a contaminated area?
Hi Peter, no any one tells you to use any self-levelling products without removing carpet glue. I am removing it before starting levelling.
@MrYoucandoityourself Outstanding job‼️...
I've seen Self-Leveling Compound, but not the type of Leveling Compound you used.
It makes sense to only apply it where it was needed.
Marking where it's not Leveled is an excellent idea 👌
And wiping the edges was an excellent idea as well to smooth it out...
Very appreciate for your comment!
Thank you for the great tutorial. Very informative and detailed
Hi Brian, you’re welcome!
Your video help very much, your video show that only you doing the mixing and leveling, most other self leveling video, show or said that it take more than one person to work or the concrete will dry quickly. So is it possible to work alone?
It is much easier if you have two people. One mixing the compound and the other pouring and screeding. One person can do a small area. I had a helper when I poured the first 25 bags but had to pour 5 by myself. Not too bad, it worked out okay.
For this area don't need many peoples. One person can do patches spot by spot without any troubles.
Very informative thanks for taking the time to film. Some very good tips and techniques. Keep up the good work. All the best Pete (uk).

Thanks for all the videos you make. You are a big help to us novice people. I wanted to ask you something if I can. I pulled up my carpet on a concrete slab and noticed they must have painted some kind of moisture barrier on the slab. Can I just prime on top of that and use the leveling compound? This is amazing video with work done, I had doubts about the work, BUT now i can do it myself. Thank you
One question though, with Self leveler down on the floor, for how long can we leave it before installing the tiles? WIll the self leveler come out or get damaged?
You can install tiles on next day.
My question really means that, can I not install tiles for few months if I want to, or by delaying tile install the self leveler compound will get damaged? Pls help
It’s up to you. You can leave this leveling compound as long as you want.

Very helpful videos....but which thickness of screed is bettter.??.I already did one room 12 x 14 feet using a 6ft screed which is really not long enough. So next room is 13 x 15 and I want to get a 10 ft long screed to avoid same problems. They sell different lengths but also different thickness'. Should I get a 3/4 x 4 inch thick or 1 1/2 x 3 1/2 inch thick. Thicker screed is stiffer but Is there an advantage to using a thicker screed with leveling compound? Or would it be worse?
3/4 x 4 x10 - it's good.

Hello and thank you for sharing your knowledge. Can I put self leveling over paint over-spray on my concrete slab? It’s mostly around the perimeter and not on the center of the rooms. I will be screeding the self leveling. Thank you.
Sometimes I do it if it’s not painting completely and looking shiny. But better slightly remove with grinder as much as you can. Thanks

Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge. Great video. I'm going to be self-leveling a 12' x 36' concrete basement floor using your methods. Just a quick question: when do you (if ever) grind down a high spot on the floor before applying the levelling compound? When grinding down high spots what tools/materials do you use? Better grinding down before, for concrete subfloor I use concrete grinder with turbo blade, for wood subfloor floor edger.
The edges that your straight edge is on might be hight an low up and down as you go along . You should do the whole lot 8mm deep with aggregates. Your making the job hard work

I have a question, if you could kindly answer it would be much appreciated :)
When my gap is only 2 mm should I fixe it or I it's ok to leave it like that?
Hi Filipa, 2 mm it’s 1/8”, it’s allowed for 8 fits long. You can check it with straight edge. If you don’t have it, use rope. For small area better fix this gap. thanks

I can’t find the foam you fit round the edges anywhere in the UK. Can you suggest anything else I can use?
Hi Steve, it’s foam gasket, this foam tape you can find in lumber store, used for protection between concrete slab and wooden wall frames in house building. Now more clear?
It’s a great idea that I want to try, I still can’t seem to find it anywhere. It’s must be called something different in the UK. I usually use expanding foam to fill the gaps and cut it off when dry. I have to wait for it to dry and sometimes it does let a little bit through.
@@SteveTheFrench We call it sill sealer in the US. It is a thin foam used between the concrete foundation and the sill plate. They have it at almost any big box hardware store.

Thanks for the video! Curious why/when you would use this method with the long straight edge versus just using a gauge rake and moving the leveling compound over the entire floor.

Yes, it’s good enough.
If I have a subflloor with a crack but I know I'm going to use leveling comoound, do I need to fill the crack was something before I put down the leveling compound? Or do I just depend on the leveling compound to fill in the crack?
Hi Tom, here it is How-to Concrete Floor Crack Repair Before Use Self Leveling Compaund Mapei DIY MrYoucandoityourself ruclips.net/video/80TWVMiZCb8/видео.html
Fill or seal the crack. Also seal any holes in the floor (common in wood floors). Feathering compound, tape of cracks and around wall perimeters where drywall gaps above the floor as material will seep under to fill voids. Neglecting these probable problem areas results in leveling compound draining as the material sets up resulting in depressions that have to be fill after the pour.

Great video! Can this be used in a garage before painting the farage floor?
You can try, but for garage gays using regular concrete and different techniques.
Garage will have cars on it, this might be too weak especially if it's 1/8 or 1/4" thin. Also, garage usually has an aggressive slope to get water out. That's all I know, and usually concrete is used to build it up when people make it a dwelling unit. If you want to just paint the garage floor, I'd use a polyurethane or epoxy coating, but grind the existing concrete first so that it will stick and no oil.

well i level my floor sadly my local shop have only quick setting one 15-20 min. I think it was old too because it dont want to flow at all. So i buy another tipe for thin layer. Was even worse even thou i use penetration so it dont suck water. It seems sanding is the only option. I have more luck to level poured concrete then that garbage i have to work with. Was nowhere close to the consistency like in this video was more of a jogurt, even after i add a bit more water then on bag still a thick paste.
Some self leveling compound not so good. I would prefer Mapei or Ardex. Sika very sensitive for water. Other brands I do not use.
@@MrYoucandoityourself i measure it today and luckily the high spots are level and just have to fill 1-3mm dips. I thinking buying plain cement, mix it with water and pour. I have up to my neck with quick setting "self leveling" nonsens.

@@MrYoucandoityourself sorry i dont want to insult you i am just frustrated with the whole apartment renovation that is dragging on for weeks and almost nothing is done. I am waiting for widows, doors, floors. Walls are still not finished and everything is dependent on something. Its small 2 room flat (bedroom and a kitchen) So on one i am working and in other is the mess. Dont have energy after job and can take day off for a while. Everything i do my self. It took me 2 weeks just to scrape the walls and remove the damage floor in one room. I done renovation as a job but doing it alone and after job takes like 4-7 times longer. I was skeptical since what i buy was 4x cheaper but i have to raise the surface by 3cm (1,18 inch). Even the last layer i manage to message so the peaks are level. I may look in to your suggestion (they sell in EU too) i now just have hot head. 2 bags of what you suggest will cost almost the same as 10 of what i use. And i needed 16 to be where i am now.
@@scasny The 15-20 minute quick-setting is a major no-no to a DYI-er, and is really unnecessary. Been there, done that. A serious PITA when you have to rush and there's no workable window at all, as it starts to set even before fully leveling out. Those are typically meant for contractors who need to be able to tile within hours of pouring it, and it does need to be troweled out or screeded quickly, or it will make things worse than they were.
What else would you suggest to use if you don't have a metal straight edge to make it level?
Hi Justin, watch this video - ruclips.net/video/XHrPhKrW_U4/видео.html from 12:05. Thanks!
Thank You for your reply. I am considering using quickrete cement on one side of the 12x13 room since the height difference is 1.5 inches and when that is dry level
the entire floor with the mapei after applying the mapei glue. There is got to be other people with the same problem but no videos on this subject. Can you help and give your opinion on what you would do? Mapei package states 11mm height maximum. I like to take this opportunity to wish you Happy New Year. Best Regards Dirk
Hi Dirk, I filled up with Mapei 1,5” easy in one shot. But, if you want save money you can try your idea. Here is no any warranty if you mix different brands. Don’t forget use primer for better bonding. Happy New Year!
Thank You for your help, hope you have a great 2020 with lots of new tutorials.
Dirk
I wonder how you solved the 1.5” difference. Self leveler is expensive to fill that much volumes.
I wonder if adding more water to other cement products would be a cheaper fill and easier spread, and then screed to level.
@@ivanobar1 Dear Ivan: Thank You for your email: The cost of ruffing the cement and cementing the high areas and level with
mapei cement added up to thousands of dollars and it was not a solution . Since I do have carpentry skills we
will build a proper wood framing to bring up the flooring and at the same time install a proper subfloor through that area and
all adjacent rooms. I am comfortable with this solution because it will also be according to our local building codes.
@Dirk Bauman
Thanks for responding. I had a similar problem as you but just 1/2” and 1/4” differences at some spots.
I ended using around 9 bags of self leveling cement (expensive).
In the future I think I’ll mostly fill low spots with cheap, but smooth, cement, and then add self leveling cement as the top layer.
I also shims (cut to approx 1” square) under my level and glued them in place. I then filled the voids to the level of the shims. That was cheaper than “leveling” equipment.
Thanks again,
Marvin

Sir what kind of material to make concrate floor cement or what t y
Self leveling compound.
I just did my 440 sq ft garage floor that was all cracked and sunk in some areas as much as 2 inches. Ended up using 42 50lb bags and it is still not good enough. I think I need another 50 bags to make it look right which would put the project at about $3000, ($30x50lb bag) I should have just ordered a cement truck with fine concrete and poured it over and leveled it using a concrete screed. Self leveling underlayment is not for big jobs, trust me. My back is shot ad the floor still looks like shit. If you're thinking about doing this I suggest you consult with a professional.
Hi Adnan, the self leveling compound specially made for final coating. If you need to use the big volume of material, for sure better use the concrete. Thanks!
Where do we get the spiked roller / aeration roller cheap?
Hello, I have links in description to Amazon.
If that’s the way you are going to do it, why waste all the money on self leveler. You can just use a cheap non-modified thinset and do the same thing.
I showed it only for your knowledge, but you can do whatever you want. Thanks!
Ahoy!
Thanks!
Anyone else mind-blown that a 10’ aluminum edge is $285!?
Wow!
Why is there so much background noise?
Hi, because it’s real recording on job site.
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🍺🍺
Thanks!
The whole point of self leveling is to let the material do the work for you and keep you off your knees. Mix to the manufacturer's recommended water, pour it out over the entire floor and lightly smooth it. Now trowel or screed should be necessary ever. There are tools specific to self leveling underlayments that make the process easy and accurate. Don't get me wrong, what is shown here is good craftsmanship, but it is NOT how manufacturers recommend this type of product is used.
Hi Joe, great advice! Thanks
From experience, I can tell you that if you just poor and let self level with no screeding, no spiked roller, or blending the edges, it will be a disaster. Why do you comment on a professionals work when you have no idea? I've level hundreds of floors, how many have you done. I know the answer is ZERO by your comment.
You'd be shocked to see the kind of mix consistency I have once had in the past while trying to "mix to the manufacturer's recommended water". - Self-leveling my a$$.
The mix would just sit like a pile of mud and had to be manually troweled out all over the area. And - no, the water was freezing cold, so it wasn't too thick due to heat.
The problem is tap water itself is very different geographically, and the PH, hardness, the content of salts and other deposits appears to impact the flowability of the resulting mix.
So, if you're using distilled water - by all means stick to the recommendations. Otherwise, good luck following those to the tee! You've been warned.
