We sat in our living room transfixed as we watched the live feed of the lunar landscape pass by. It was all explained on TV and I just soaked it all up.

I hope the mission is 100% successful but my guess is that it will fail. NASA and the ULA simply do not have their acts together. Management really sucks ☹️.
I'm sorry, but this mission looks very antiquated & to a moderate extent, uninspiring. Musk has shown, if nothing else, the technology for re-usable exist...not only for the boosters; but, for the 1st Stage rocket. However, what disappoint most, is the lack of high-orbital glider. Let use the Shuttle for an example...technology exist to make lighter/stronger material to create the outer skin of a glider... making it much less in weight, compared to the "Flying Brick" of days past, while providing better shielding. Equip certain areas on this new type of shuttle, with solar panels to provide additional hybrid power. The cargo bay of the old shuttle was around 60' Long x 15' wide, with a capacity of around 25 tons. Now a newer, lighter shuttle, can increase it cargo size; but, let just use the old shuttle dimension for this example. Three (3) Artemis Capsules (17' x 11' just less than 10 tons each), theoretically can be placed inside this cargo bay. Each capsule can comfortably carry a 4-man crew, with a maximum crew member of 6...so, potential of 12 to 18 astronauts, plus a 2-man crew commanding this new designed shuttle. In essence having three (3) on going missions simultaneously, theoretically at a third of the cost. Practically, there would still be two re-usable boosters & a re-usable 1st Stage rocket, fuel for the shuttle engines, and minimal amount of fuel, for each capsule, for lunar landing & lift-off purposes. The shuttle would be designed to achieve lunar orbit. Once orbit has been achieved, a robotic arm can lift the first capsule into lunar orbit (much like the old shuttle release satellites payloads), obtain the correct orbital path conducive, to its landing location, then the capsule can proceed to prepare for lunar landing...with the 2nd & 3rd capsule following suit. The return trip would consist of the lander lifting off the lunar surface, remaining fuel burn to achieve the correct lunar orbit as the shuttle, robotic arm grabs the lander (much like the old shuttle grab the Hubble for repairs & hardware), place in capsule in the cargo bay, and prepare sequence for return to Earth. Re-entry very similar to the old shuttle program, landing at Edwards Air Force Base. Over time, an actual landing strip & fuel depot can be constructed on the lunar surface, in a number of strategic locales, for landing a shuttle on the surface, removing the need for a lander, providing more cargo space for other material, equipment, habitat, etc, in the cargo bay of this newly designed shuttle. Making more missions much frequently & cost efficient, as we build manufacturing & research facilities and create better technologies for off-world travel & colonization of the inner Solar System. I must add...communication satellites need to be established in permanent lunar orbit.
