What f...n Russian law? It is almost copy of US law. Many countries have such laws. Nobody is cracking down on media, especially if it is domestic. But it is completely right that funds recieved from abroad are reported. It is meant to prevent foreign meddling.
What does EU have to do with Georgian laws? Their laws, their problems. This law is about transparency. If some organizator is financed from abroad, public has the right to know that. Obviously, EU (and he bosses) don't like transparency... This has nothing to do with Russia, no matter you like to call it that so much.
This law just inspects companies that get 20% or more funding from abroad. This should have been done long time ago. USA has similar law in place for decades.
Correct. The first law about "foreign influencers" was adopted in our country ...... the United States of America. All organizations receiving money from abroad (>20%) should report to our American Authorities. All other sovereign Democracies in the World (Russia, China, India, etc.) used our blueprints.
Why? It’s fine to have FARA law in 🇺🇸(Foreign Agents Registration Act), and jail those who violate it. But when Georgia and other countries do that, it’s a threat to freedoms and democracy?🧐

These individuals were actively involved in teaching methods of creating protest charges and tactics for conducting violent actions. They represent the management of the Canvas organization, and Sinisa Sikman and Slobodan Djinovic are former members of the Otpor organization, an analogue of the Georgian organization Kmara in Serbia. We would remind the public that the organization Canvas, whose core is the Otpor organization, is being used to prepare youth groups for the revolutionary scenario planned in October-December of this year in Georgia. These organizations have practical experience in participating in revolutionary processes in foreign countries and in teaching how to organize violent protests.

Any state in the world should have such a law. Those who oppose to it have sth to hide. The audience has a right to Know whose interests a press organ or an NGO represents.

@TheNextCubedI'm confused. What has Russia with this law? BTW, it is almost a copy of US law. Xan you enlighten me?

In the United States there is the Foreign Agents Registration Act of 1938...
Georgia, listen to your citizens!
You mean the ones that are financed by foreigners and recieve orders from them?

Reminds me of Ukraine in 2012. Change is not easy and often comes with great pain, it comes nonetheless.
Same bill as USA has. It’s not fact Georgia copied it
I don't see how trying to influence the affairs of a country with foreign funds has anything to do with democracy.
Is this a good time to mention that the United States has a Foreign Agents law that is selectively enforced against political opponents?
Any state in the world should have such a law. Those who oppose to it have sth to hide. The audience has a right to Know whose interests a press organ or an NGO represents.
You said how many Georgian MP’s voted FOR the the bill BUT how many voted against it???
Now is the time for Georgia to retake its occupied territories
How so? USA has the same law since 1938.
