    With the scrap machine (No 3) it is noticeable that only the power supply does not have any traces of rust that are visible to the camera. So you can assume that someone has already tinkered with the device.

    I think I've still got a Sony C9 in storage. Got it from someone in London back in 1999, but I never got it to work well as I think the video heads were worn, but I think the clock display worked. Must go through my stuff in storage to see exactly what is there, as there might be a Sanyo VTC-5000 and NX-100 in there too. There should definitely be a PYE version of the V2000 portable.

      @@video99couk ATV sacking Noele Gordon was what got it cancelled, though the effect was somewhat delayed.
      Central TV were going to shift more and more action to the series’ fictional village of King’s Oak, eventually dropping all action at the motel altogether (and changing its name) but the head of drama at Central went on holiday so the Assistant Head of Drama took the opportunity to axe the series in late 87. Older generations took it seriously but younger generations always thought it was a hoot.
      Still, like everything else that came out of ATV’s Birmingham studios (Bullseye, Golden Shot, TISWAS), it was awful, but at least those three programmes didn’t take themselves seriously and sent up their cheapness.

      My ex TV engineer colleague always thinks that the people had enough time to save the recordings. But he couldn't tell me which TBC you could use to do this so that the picture and sound are synchronized with dropout tapes even after 3 hours. And on which storage medium with which compression.

    It's always the same. The scrap machine shows more promise than the ones you're trying to fix. Ha ha.

      The first thing I always test with SONY is whether the heads still stick out noticeably. This generally makes it easier to decide which device you should stay away from.

    Hello. I just got today an SL-C9ES from ebay. The problem is that the tape speed is too slow on playback, to the point where the tape remaining indicator can't count how much tape is remaining, and sometimes the machine stops because of the slow speed. Can a faulty pinch roller cause this, or should I look at the back-tension adjustment?

      Mine is doing the same thing as yours. Hopefully someone will reply with a solution.

      @@scottrodger3592 I went ahead and adjusted the back-tension control RV002 on the SS-11 board. Now the tapes play OK but the sound is poor. I tried tweaking the audio/control head's height and azimuth adjustments but couldn't get it perfect.

      @@scottrodger3592 Unscrew the bottom cover and then unscrew the SS-11 (syscon/servo) board (the screws you need to remove are marked with white arrows on the PCB's silkscreen). It's the board that covers the mechanism. Hinge the board upwards and look for the variable resistor RV002. It's located right besides IC002 and it's a small blue potentiometer that can be adjusted with a small phillips screwdriver. Turn it clockwise to increase the tension, turn it anti-clockwise to decrease it. Ideally you need the SL-0003C back-tension measrument tape to do this but it can be done with an ordinary tape. I'll post photos if I can.

    I had a C9 fairly late in the game, around 1990. I really loved that machine and used it until the heads wore out. By then I had a HF100 so invested in keeping that going instead.
    Sadly never had a HF950.

    • @video99couk
      @video99couk  4 месяца назад +1

      The HF100 was a much better machine in many ways, but lacked the trick functions of the C9. I'm still hoping for an HF950 one day. But I do have some NTSC SuperBeta and even High Band machines.

    I have almost 50 Betamax in my collection but the SL-C9 is my personal horror 😄 I always wanted a good one but I only found defective worn ones.it's easier to find a good SL-HF950 than a good SL-C9😂

    • @janosnagyj.9540
      @janosnagyj.9540 4 месяца назад +1

      I think that's because most of the people who could afford to buy a 950 back then actually did it as a status symbol, so the machines were just sitting under the TV most of the time and saw very little use. On the other hand, the much lower class, everyday machines... well, got used every day 😅and just wore out... I have a 950 and it's pretty much as good as new... except for the usual LED problem....🙄Actually it had some minor mechanical issues, mostly caused by shrunken nylon parts, but those were easy to sort out. What really counts - heads, pinch roller etc - are in perfect shape fortunately 🥳
