👩🌾 Great info Laura. This just might be what I’ve been looking for. Will check it out. Aaron - I so appreciate that you don’t blare the music in editing. It’s so nice to not have to turn the volume up & down throughout the video to hear what the person is saying. You are the best at videoing and editing! Y’all are an Awesome Team! 💕
Video idea for ya: show us what your garden view is from your sitting or popular areas of your homes windows. I have a newly built construction with a totally blank yard and I am drawing a blank for inspiration. I want to plan my landscape around what I can look out of my windows in my house and see.
When you talked about the control of staying within a classic color palette I literally shouted "Amen!". You're so right, it is so easy to get caught up in all the spring color at the garden centers, but sometimes I feel like too much color can look tacky and overstimulating. I really appreciate the serenity and clean coolness of what you've done here. Well done!
Very pretty. Still snow flurries in our state! Too cold yet. But just can't wait. Frost wiped out my tulip tree night before last. It was beautiful. I hate that part of the seasons. Haven't been able to enjoy it the past 2 years. Sad. lol
Ohh my coffee with Laura and such a peaceful arrangement. I really like the classic look of those plants and it gives the eye a resting spot while looking around. Thank you for this choice, I am going to see if I can find some containers that would work out on our playground to plant in as I think the children would love them.
I swear...everything you touch just turns to gold...beautiful!!! I can't wait for spring so I can do a drive-by (if you will let me) as I only live an hour from you in Eagle!!
My husband won’t let me plant ivy anymore. In our old house it grew INTO our home through a small crack/hole in the wall. ( we lived in Marine Corps housing. ) but he sent me a photo once he moved our tv stand oh the ivy coming INSIDE the house. I love ivy tho! Lol. I wish I could use it.
I love my inkberry. This year will be it's 3rd year growing in a container outside my morning room. Such a pretty view! I was going to move it out of the container and into the yard, but it seems to be happy where it's growing (maybe this fall I'll move it). I'm in zone 7B, so it's come through our North Carolina winters nicely.
Spring is here!!!! I cannot wait to see what you do with your garden. These urns are delightful and sweet. Thank you so much for sharing this demonstration with us.
So gorgeous! I want to get some plants going so bad, but I don't think I'll be able to this year. I'll just have to live vicariously through your videos! 😍
Laura I love that combo, so classic, I think I’m going to try this. Thank you so much for all of your inspiration. My gardens haven’t been the same since starting to watch you. :)
Love, Love, Love this container and plant combination! My front thriller plant, red cordyline, has outgrown my front pots and this would be a perfect replacement. Really sweet but with lots of center structure. You have a great eye for putting arrangements together and love the simplicity of this gathering. :-)
I can't wait to get started on things here. We just received 3" of fresh snow yesterday and it looks like a space ship crashed in my pool, with the melting ice! UGH!! Come on warm weather..get here already, would ya!!
I love boxwood too Laura. What does boxwood blight look like and how can we prevent blight? I had blight on a few ornamental pear trees last year but it was recognized by a neighbor.
Beautiful arrangement! In my area and in many other parts of Europe there's been a plague of an invasive box tree moth that killed all boxwoods that were not heavily sprayed with chemicals. Last year I even saw a news article of a company that offered a service where they sprayed your dead boxwoods green for you. The problem is that bad. I hope that moth doesn't somehow make it to America like it came to Europe...
We have had horrible issues with japanese beetles. How do you keep them at bay with all the japanese and non native plants you plant??? I love the Gem Box. It looks great but I hesitate to plant them and attract beetles / grubs which in turn attract moles! I have been using Milky spore and it takes 2 to 3 years to help but...oh the moles!!!!!
do you put all soil in the pot? I have two large pots in front of house, I fill half of it with gravels, then soil for the top 1/3. Should I put all soil in the huge pot in order the little shrub can survive over winter? Thanks.
I'd love a suggestion for an alternative to boxwood for a zone 4. I tried a “zone 4” boxwood before and our winter was too harsh. The leaves all turned yellow. ☹️
Holly? I'm in zone 4 and I have a holly which does pretty well. It's a 'Blue Princess' and 'Blue Prince' I bought in the same pot. You need the male and female to make berries. They are hardy down to -30°. The coldest it's gotten down to at my house is -22° that I know of. They probably have different ones/hybreds you could investigate; I don't know that much about them. Mine is a very slow grower, but I don't know if it's the type of plant or something I'm doing wrong! Probably the later! Lol! We have a very sandy property. There's a lot of different arborvitae's out there that would make a nice hedge (or lots of other uses) and are very cold tolerant, too. I planted a few Techny Globe arborvitae (zone 3!) last fall which I staggered with Burning Bushes. We put fence around them until they grow some because of the deer. That didn't help the burning bushes because the #! $% voles chewed on every single one of them! Ur!!! They left the arborvitae alone and that was what I was most afraid they would eat. Anyways, hope that helped in some way! Those were what popped in my mind. I know it can be hard in our zone sometimes! Good luck!
Always lovely!! I love these colors as well...I call it a "grown up" color pallet 😍 btw..I think u may have sold me on the gem box...last year it was the VERTIGO & I can't wait to finally get my hands on them & make them the centerpiece of my front bed! I wasn't clear how many of them u planted in your big round bed...it looks to be about the same size as mine. I've had it on my mind since last year & I want DRAMA...so how many did u use?!!
Yeah, that was my thought when I saw THIS video uploaded. We're so greedy and spoiled, lol. I was like "yay! A new Garden Answer vid." And then..."Oh. A part-sun, shade planting with (boring!) white petunias and (boring!) some ivy and (okay, kinda cute) inkberry holly (not another boxwood!)." LOL. It's a perfectly fine container. It's not even Laura's fault. It's this NOT Spring weather and Winter holding onto all of us with a death grip and I JUST WANT SPRING and really long garden videos already, damn it, lol. Where I am (central NJ), we've had a total of THREE days where we surpassed the 60 degree mark (barely) and ever since the last one, we haven't gotten out of the FORTIES before noon. I'm so SICK of this cold weather. I'm fatigued. I just want Winter GONE already.
Always impressed by how many plants you can squeeze into a container 😁
I'm always afraid to try that many. Lol
👩🌾 Great info Laura. This just might be what I’ve been looking for. Will check it out.

The planters look so stately. I love the view of that area and the whole background area. Classic!
I like this cute lil bush ..
And I like how you planted the white pansies, ivy and the inkberry bush... Its Beautiful 🌷🌷🌷
Have a Blessed day 💕💕💕
Another stunning planter. The English ivy makes it look so elegant.

I love the ivy part as they swing with the slightest breeze.🤗
The size of those Pansie blooms are incredible. They love your cool weather. Very pretty. 💞💞💞
This is probably my favorite container you have done thus far. Beautiful.
Very pretty. Still snow flurries in our state! Too cold yet. But just can't wait. Frost wiped out my tulip tree night before last. It was beautiful. I hate that part of the seasons. Haven't been able to enjoy it the past 2 years. Sad. lol
Beautiful, have a large container on my front porch which is shaded and green and white will stand out. Great color palette.

It’s beautiful to see how the plants are coming to life and giving color to the yard...
I swear...everything you touch just turns to gold...beautiful!!! I can't wait for spring so I can do a drive-by (if you will let me) as I only live an hour from you in Eagle!!
I agree that is really a calming combo!
Practicing container restraint is definitely challenging for me, lol!
Love it. Reminds me of Monty Don's writer's garden.
So traditional and pretty, also a great place for the eye to land and rest. Being from Alabama, to me this is a very southern planting. 💚🌿💚
Classic and stunning.
Classic. Basic. Green & white! This is my fav. Great look.
Laura i love your every thing
Very pretty urns and plants. I am jealous because in Illinois, I have to be patient and wait for the warmer temperatures.
Nice container with wonderful combination ivy is the pulse point ...I just love to watch ur video.
I’m in love with the gem box in a container!!!
They are such a cute containers I can't wait to see them later
So pretty!!! White is a favorite of mine!
Thanks for this video. I have a goldchild ivy and I didn't know it's name until I watched this. So happy! 😊❤️🌿
I've treated boxwood for leafminer so much and they, imo, really prefer a warmer climate than southeast PA. So Ilex is a super substitute.

Absolutely gorgeous. One of my favorite planting you've done in pots.
The color combo is spot on Laura. Love it!
So gorgeous! I want to get some plants going so bad, but I don't think I'll be able to this year. I'll just have to live vicariously through your videos! 😍
Its just beautiful and serene
I'm so happy you guys link where to get these, we have a limited garden center and can't always get stuff. Thanks!
I love the simplicity of these urns.
Love their shape and the two colors together a favorite!
I've just got pansy's. Waiting on the greenhouses to open up!!!
Fabulous combination

Love love love these containers! Some of my favorites of all the beautiful ones you've created through the years.
Gorgeous!!! And easy....
Looks very pretty.
I can't wait to get started on things here. We just received 3" of fresh snow yesterday and it looks like a space ship crashed in my pool, with the melting ice! UGH!! Come on warm weather..get here already, would ya!!

Really nice grouping in the urns. Peace and Good Fortune to you and your family.
Very elegant! I need to put 8 bushes behind my red bud tree and am deciding between boxwood and the mulberry holly.

Very helpful!
Good morning 🌞
I just re-watched your autumn veggie garden tour - I wish it was spring here.... although I'm kinda excited for Delphiniums to come up later :D
Beautiful and I love it's 😍😍😍😍
I love boxwood too Laura. What does boxwood blight look like and how can we prevent blight? I had blight on a few ornamental pear trees last year but it was recognized by a neighbor.
Still planting imside but if it stays warm for 2 weeks then I'll plant. Might put out bulbs it is staying above freezing
I love this 💜
What did you use to elevate the urns? Looks like small pillars perhaps? I like the clean, simple look you planted today!
Tip, try to cover the water boxes with some ivy, or something like that ;)
I use these in zone 5 they do great and the deer have stayed away from them.
Beautiful arrangement!

I used 3! :) Started out with 4" cans and ended up with some massive grasses! Loved them!
Thank Laura - I was looking for container inspiration and these are beautiful! Would these work in full sun? We’re zone 6a in Mass.
Hey Laura, can we use potting soul for more than a year? If not why so?
Anything on the Root Cellar yet...? 😔😔😔
Yeah, that was my thought when I saw THIS video uploaded. We're so greedy and spoiled, lol. I was like "yay! A new Garden Answer vid."

Question. When you remove and replace your soil from a container that's been sitting there all year, what do you do with the old soil?
If I haven't dealt with any insect issues on plants planted in the old soil, I spread it in my flower beds. :)
I'm in Houston, TX. Are the Gem Box hollies good for my area?
