I keep telling people I’m never gonna have kids when I’m older (I’m 21 as I’m typing this) and people keep saying “ohohohoh you’ll change your mind”. No, no I won’t. Samus is one of the original female badass in video games who showed that it doesn't matter what your gender is, you can still kick alien butts. Also no men could possibly roll in a ball anyway.

Are you sure? Samus is not a word Ara and Arán (the closest things to Aran) mean Kidney and Bread respectively (at least in Gaeilge/Irish) and Google translate proves Aran to mean bread in Scots Gaelic without the fada (the little line thingie on the vowels)
What Gaelic are you referring to? (We’ve discounted Irish Gaelic and Scots Gaelic), where did you find this? This seems to just be a good story (especially as Samus’s name is based on footballer Pelé.
Also of note, I am Irish (as in, born and lives in Ireland) so I immediately knew something was wrong.
@@evan.f1738 while Nintendo cites a footballer, a greek poet, and the aran islands as the source of her name they do mean something else in Celtic and scottish, I was mistaken when I said Gaelic.
Samus is a real name, it is the feminine counterpart of Seamus which means "one who supplants or conquers through force" while aran is the Scottish counterpart of Aaron which biblically mean "enlightened mountain of strength".
I legitimately don't think Nintendo knew they had multiple meanings, i think it's more a lovely little coincidence. But I still find amusement in it.

We saw this happen in Australia when we had a female Prime Minster and all the media could talk about was that she had no kids, her clothes, and her hair.

When I beat Metroid as a kid it never dawned on me that the woman at the end was the same character I had been playing. At the time I thought that was the princess I had just saved.
I started with Super Metroid, so I learned pretty quickly that Samus was a woman. And the game reminded me every five minutes or so.
For anyone who doesn't know, I'm referring to her death animation.

What I love about Samus is that she's one of very few female characters that is a badess but doesn't constantly remind the public that she's a woman.
If that makes sense, a lot of female characters are like "I'm a woman but I'm also a badass", while Samus has more of a "I'm a badass. Ah yeah, and I'm also a woman, for all that matters" approach.
Apart from Other M, her gender is something very irrelevant, apart from an ending scene here and there. She doesn't get treated any differently because of it, in good and bad, and that's how it should be.

NGL, the Press Conference should really back off of Samus. She is an awesome space bounty huntress who protects the galaxy from vile extraterrestrial life forms, such as Mother Brain, Metroids and Ridley. The best part of the old Metroid games was the end when Samus's true identity is revealed.
I thought the best part of Metroid was the exploration and saving the galaxy from mutant space pirates. Learning Samus was female just got a “huh. Cool.” from me. Because the gender of a hero doing heroic things doesn’t really matter, does it.

I don't know how I missed that Samus wasn't just a robot. My first game was Super Metroid. It was around the time her Death Animation began showing her breaking out of the Varia Suit. I only realized when I beat the game, when she opened her helmet, that she was actually a person. For some reason, I still couldn't tell, until I started using her in Smash Bros N64, and happened to Pause the moment she got shocked. I find it stupid that it took ALL THAT to make me realize Samus was a woman. And it took until I got the X-Ray Visor in Prime to realize her arm wasn't cut off, and replaced with a Blaster. And I didn't even know she was Blonde until Brawl. I guess you could say I spent my life finding little bits and pieces of her Identity. I also found it hilarious that the dinky little Bombs she dropped got a reaction similar to a Strap-On Bomb Terrorists use to bring down Buildings.

I clearly remember the big hullabaloo about the main character from Metroid being a female lead character, and how the controversy about her being sexy if 100% completed was completely overshadowed by the respect she earned. I think she gained that respect because the adventure they started her on was *hard as balls* and they never once made a big deal of her gender, except for that 100%. By the time someone sees her full self, at least by playing, they've already played the hell out of an excellent experience.
I only *almost* beat it. If I ever find that Gamecube Memory card, I'll probably try again.
I knew what this video was gonna focus on and I watched it anyway with no regret.
I think it's best when the player gets the choice of being male or female and the games narrative reflects the players choice, like Prey for example.

In the Captain N comics, Samus co-existed with Simon Belmont. Which means either Samus is VERY old, or she wouldn't have any idea who Trevor is.
Simon Belmont never appeared in the comics, nor Samus Aran ever appeared in the animated show (the showrunners thought she was a robot like MegaMan).
Although, in the comics, Samus was thirsty for the titular character, who happened to be an under-age high-schooler (16-ish) while she is vary much an adult. So yeah...
