In the book Sirius actually does send a note to harry for him to give to Dumbledore that said "I, Sirius Black, Harry Potter's godfather, hereby give him permission to visit Hogsmeade on weekends." So you were actually right.

      "Dear Harry,
I hope this finds you before you reach your aunt and uncle. I don't know whether they're used to owl post. Buckbeak and I are in hiding. I won't tell you where, in case this owl falls into the wrong hands. I have some doubt about his reliability, but he is the best I could find, and he did seem eager for the job.
I believe the dementors are still searching for me, but they haven't a hope of finding me here. I am planning to allow some Muggles to glimpse me soon, a long way from Hogwarts, so that the security on the castle will be lifted.
There is something I never got around to telling you during our brief meeting. It was I who sent you the Firebolt. Crookshanks took the order to the Owl Office for me. I used your name but told them to take the gold from Gringotts vault number seven hundred and eleven - my own. Please consider it as thirteen birthdays' worth of presents from your godfather.
I would also like to apologise for the fright I think I gave you that night last year when you left your uncle's house. I had only hoped to get a glimpse of you before starting my journey north, but I think the sight of me alarmed you.
I am enclosing something else for you, which I think will make your next year at Hogwarts more enjoyable.
If ever you need me, send word. Your owl will find me.
      I'll write again soon. Sirius"

According to the books, the a-hole tree was planted there because of Remus Lupin. Every month during full moon, he could go into the shrieking shack, and no other students would dare to go there because of the whomping willow near the shrieking shack. Lupin's closest friends were James Potter, Sirius Black and Peter Pettigrew, and all three of them became unregistered animagi. Together, they created the Marauder's Map: Prongs (James the stag), Padfoot (Sirius the dog), Wormtail (Peter the rat) and Moony (Remus the werewolf). That is why Lupin knew how the Marauder's map worked, and he knew that Sirius also could use it.

You know, the reason why Lupin took the train to get to Hogwarts and spent most of the trip sleeping was because the beginning of the new school year happened right after the full moon and, as showed, the transformation is quite painful and exhausting. Not to mention that, up until coming back to Hogwarts, Lupin didn't have Snape to brew the potion that would help him keep his human mind while transformed. So, because of that, he would constantly attack himself so that he wouldn't attack another human being (which is also why he has a lot of scars and a sickly look).

you guys really have this hatred of Ron. I mean wow. To the point of in some areas being honest .. annoying .... Ron in the books dont act like he is in movies and Hermione is over hyped she isnt that smart. Actually she tries the Patronus charm and fails when with Harry near the lake. But that book not movies, but she passes out. With Troll it was Ron who did it without her help, he as can tell. And from book is more braver plus RON Not Hermione said if you Kill Harry you have to kill us too. Ron also with the spider scene when asked by Harry, should we turn back . ROn braverly though afraid of spiders said no lets go basically showing he doing it for HERMIONE. Ron in books is outshine by his brothers all popular greater than him and his sister is beautiful and popular and he is considered the mistake. For its said that Mrs Weasley though loves him when Ron was born she was hoping for a daughter but endup getting a boy.
Ron cant fix his wand, from before a wand cant be repared by anything .. he also had his brothers wand so another hand me down . There in this one he got to get a new wand. That choseen him. Ron is more braver he also knew about Mudblood not Hermione so .. Lets see risks his life in chess when he got hit in he head in the book to save the stone, he risks his life with fears with spiders, he stands up on a broke leg to protect his friends, he stands against Malfoy to get slugs in mouth, ... just note that your bitter of Ron, is sad. If only knew his story. Hes the boy that needs like Neville to find his courage of who he is and feel self worth. The bravery in Ron is already there. He is the loyal friend.

I believe it is important to point out some facts that are crucial to the story, included in PoA book, but omitted in the films:
    1) Messrs. Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot and Prongs are actually Remus Lupin, Peter Pettegriew, Sirius Black and James Potter - Harry's dad and his 3 best friends at Hogwarts.
    2) Remus was turned into werewolf before coming to Hogwarts and Dumbledore agreed to accept him as a student, but made some preparations according his state (the potion, that lets him preserve his human brain was a later invention, actually created by Snape) - mainly - creating a safe space for him to transform into wolf form and back away from students - the Shrieking Shack, and planting a whomping willow next to it's entrance to discourage any student from accidentally finding it.
    3) His friends made a huge effort to became animagi in attempt to lessen his pain of transforming into wolf form, and were able to transform into a stag (James), dog (Sirius) and rat (Peter), hence the nicknames.
    4) As Lupin was one of the creators of the Marauders Map - he knew exactly what it was and how to use it.

Did you also notice that when Lupin took Harry to task over having the Marauders Map that he KNEW it was a map? Lupin wasn't present when the map showed its true markings, so the question at that point is how Lupin knew it was a map. After the fact, we know he had a hand in its creation, but not at the point he was belaboring Harry.

Rowling originally wanted Voldemort to be pronounced without a T, because it comes from French, "vol de mort" meaning something like flight of death. But then the audiobook was recorded with the T and it sort of became the norm.
Time turners are kept under strict control. Only exceptionally good and hard working students can get one in order ti get to all their desired classes and only if they are recommended by their teachers. They must adhere to very, very strict rules when using them.
Another thing kept under strict control is Animagus transformation. Any wizard who wants to learn how to do it must register with the Ministry. Attempting to become an Animagus while unregistered is a crime punishable with prison time.
Part of the reason is that the process is extremely complicated and dangerous. Not anyone can do it, because it involves things like keeping a leaf in a certain position in your mouth for several days...
    "Save the chicken!"
    "Save the pumpkin!"
It makes me wonder, what kind of meal did you plan for Christmas, besides water and salt? :D

Werewolves are extremely vicious towards humans, since the lattest are their prey. Hermione said that once a werewolf turns into their wolf form, they no longer remember who they are and can attack their best friend. James, Sirius and Peter were able to go around that by becoming Animagi, since werewolves won't normally attack other animals and their bites won't pass their condition to animals (with that being the only way for a wizard to be bitten by a werewolf without being turned into one). Not just that, but most werewolves are wizards, with Muggle werewolves being extremely rare, since a werewolf bite is very venomous and normally kills a Muggle before the wound can properly heal and allow them to transform.

" The taunt about his father rang in Harry's ears as though Black had bellowed it. A boiling hate erupted in Harry's chest, leaving no place
for fear. For the first time in his life, he wanted his wand back in his hand, not to defend himself, but to attack... to kill. Without knowing what he was doing, he started forward, but there was a sudden movement on either side of him and two pairs of hands grabbed him and held him back....
"No, Harry!" Hermione gasped in a petrified whisper; Ron, however, spoke to Black.
"If you want to kill Harry, you'll have to kill us too!" he said fiercely, though the effort of standing upright was draining him of still more color, and he swayed slightly as he spoke.
Something flickered in Black's shadowed eyes.
"Lie down," he said quietly to Ron. "You will damage that leg even more."
"Did you hear me?" Ron said weakly, though he was clinging painfully to Harry to stay upright. "You'll have to kill all three of us!" "

They agreed to take him in, and that made a pact with Dumbledore. Harry had to stay at least I think it was six weeks out of the year. Between Michael Gambon and Richard Harris when it comes to the character of Professor Dumbledore, I will always choose Richard Harris. When I read through Philosopher's/Sorcerer's Stone for the first time, then saw the movie version, Richard was everything I envisioned Professor Dumbledore to be in the book: A wise, caring, wizard mentor who had a level head and a heart of gold. Michael Gambon did his best, and I commend him for it, but there is a part in the following movie adaptation that didn't match up with the literature. I will not spoil it for those who haven't seen what I'm talking about.
My favorite things about Prisoner Of Azkaban:
    1. The song "Double Trouble".
    2. Hermione punching Malfoy right in his smug face.
    3. The introduction of Gary Oldman as Sirius Black and David Thewlis as Remus Lupin.
    4. Harry flying on Buckbeak's back.

The movie is full of fun, of details, of gorgeous landscape shots and character building, be it the students interacting together or the teachers - Snape especially. I feel Cuaron really defined the way the movies would look from this to the last one.

Harry didn't leave Hedwig. He'd never do that. He sent her on ahead.
Also, there is a magical reason Harry's Aunt Petunia has to have custody of him until his 17th birthday.
And actually, Dumbledore's speech about turning on the light in the darkest of times is prophetic both figuratively (for Harry & others) & literally (for Ron). There are events (current & past) that put things in motion, lessons to learn (moral & magic) & secrets to discover throughout the entire series. Some things won't be discovered or come together until the end.

Took me ages to realize that 'Large Marge', Vernon's bossy sister, turned into a balloon because Harry considered her full of hot air.
    Note:
Richard Griffiths (Uncle Vernon Dursley) joined with Daniel Radcliffe at the end of the Harry Potter franchise to appear together on the Broadway stage in "Equus". RIP Richard Griffiths (23 March 2013).
    Note:
Dumbledore is now played from this 3rd film to the end of the franchise (in 2011) by Michael Gambon. RIP Michael Gambon (27 September 2023).
    Note:
Though Dumbledore and Vernon Dursley never share an onscreen scene in the Potter franchise, Michael Gambon and Richard Griffiths appeared together in Tim Burton's 1999 film "Sleepy Hollow" (starring Johnny Depp and Christina Ricci).
    Note:
What's notable is not that Ron doesn't see Hermione in the class until she speaks up, but that ONLY Ron notices Hermione had not been there previously. Point is, Hermione had NOT been there much before speaking up. And Ron is clueless about his own attraction to her; it's his attraction to Hermione that makes him the only one who notices that she ISN'T there until she IS.
Love that there is mention of Mary Poppins in a film where Nanny McPhee is teaching Divinology.
You never actually SEE the 'chicken' get axed (now you got ME doing it!). The 'chicken was never killed; the outcropping of trees obscured their view. What Hermione and Harry do is not change events; what they do is fulfill them. It's a time loop, not a new timeline. Everything that happened the first go-round happens the second time; you just see it from two different perspectives.
Everyone who knew Harry's dad comments on how Harry seems the spitting image of his father (except for the eyes, which are so like his mother's). So very likely Harry, looking across the lake in the dark while trying to fight off dementors, would see himself and think it's his dad.

Magical portraits, if done by a skilled wizard artist, capture a snapshot imprint of the subject's personality, knowledge, etc at the time they're painted. If the person then interacts regularly with their own likeness they can teach it to be a very good "copy" of themselves. For instance, in the headmaster's office are portraits of many former headmasters, & they supposedly offer advice to the current headmaster. They aren't ghosts, have no soul. More like an A.I. copy of the person's knowledge & personality.

I had the same reaction the first time I saw the tree flick the bird out of the air. I cracked up.
Robbie Coltrane was 6'1" tall. The character Hagrid was around 8" in the movies but almost 12" tall in the books.
The bow isn't to show a hippogriff that you fear it but that you respect it.
A werewolf is classified as evil but it's the curse itself that removes any humanity and instills a savage bloodlust. The person the curse is on may be the nicest and most helpful person in the area. When the curse takes effect, it all goes out the window.

Hermione punching Draco is one of my favorite moments - particularly for the double-smack with the standing stone. As for Serius - he's living in a rock formation near the school; and in the books when he's on campus in his animagus form (Irish Wolf Hound) he befriends Crookshanks!😄
Also, I hope you watched the end credits and followed the footprints! There are a few silly things on the map, some additional footprints to watch out for, and a "transformation." 😉

I know time travel can be a little confusing so I'm going to break this down for your Barney Style, so with this particular time travel this is considered a closed loop no time branches break off and separate. What was supposed to happen has happened and will always happen so they were always going to go back and Save Buckbeak the hippogriff and Sirius Black. Now if you look to say Back to the Future when Marty McFly goes back in time he actually Alters the timeline causing it to Branch off because his parents are one way before he travels back in time and then they're completely different when he comes back to the present. That is where time is branching off. But when it comes to this it was always supposed to happen so it's just one continuous closed loop through that time travel until they come back to the present time and then time continues forward from there

I saw this film in theaters when it was first released and have seen it many times since. It's still my favorite Harry Potter film. It really stands out and the plot twists at the end are fantastic. It is the only film in which Voldemort does not appear directly and which largely stands on its own in terms of story, as it does not build so much on the plot of its predecessors. Also, the time travel aspect gives the film a great deal of depth.

Man y'all are getting through these!!
Oh and a note! This is the first movie Michael Gambin (I think that's his name) plays Dumbledoor in. Richard Harris, the actor who played Dumbledoor in the first two movies sadly passed away before this movie came out and was completed. But the new actor does quite well in his stead!
Also.. funny, Snape was really protecting Harry the ENTIRE movie wasn't he? He may be strict, but he caught him wandering the halls after hours, he prepared them for the wolves in class, and he jumped in front of the kids to protect them at the end. Not to mention jumping in when he thought Harry was in trouble in the old shack.. >.>

  • @emoharalampiev1590

I don't think it was fully explained in the movie, but I think at the end of the second year they had a choise of what optional things to study, and Hermione signed up for everything.
And of course a big thing now shown in the movie at all is the backstory of the Marauders, the 4 Marauders (who made the magical map) are Harrys dad and his friends. Because Lupin (Moony) is a werewolf the others became unregistered animagus... animaguses? animagusi?... IDK what's the plural, so when he's a werewolf they could spend time with him and he didn't seem to be hostile to animals, so James became a stag (Prongs), Sirius a dog (Padfoot) and Peter a rat (Wormtail).
In the current time someone has discovered a potion which makes Lupin mostly keep his wits when he becomes werewolf (which is why Sirius was asking if he took his potion), but back than that potion wasn't yet invented.
