  • Big Day for the concrete Chieftain.
We align the engine and gearbox.
Bleed the steering system & top up all oil levels.
We then attempt to make this thing drive for the first time in over 30 years!
This was such a great moment for me a real sense of achievement.
    That's something money can't buy.

@@eraldorhThe Russians were noted for just parking working tanks as gate guards. Friendly young souls would come in the middle of the night and drive them off to play with. The Britts decided that it might be better if gate guards stayed in place. One way to do this was to make them hard to drive.

Over the moon to see the old girl running again, knew that old chieftain, she used to sit next to a SAM guided missile, on the (what we called the rocket gate) at Arborfield Garrison, I knew her for 14 years of service guarding the old camp. It was a REME Garrison, now a massive housing estate. The other camp across the road Rowcroft had two AVRE Centurions which were also concrete filled. Thanks for the memories, climbed over her a few times, also have some photo's of my old military working dog in front of it. Only realised where it was when you put up the photo's and I recognised B company block straight away. Put a big smile on my face, grew up with them in the 70's as my old man was 1st Royal Tank Regiment.

Amazing job fixing it up. A lot of graft involved to get it to that condition. It needs a name painting on the side of the turret, I vote for 'Jack's mum'

Quite the sense of satisfaction to fill a tank with engine and gearbox versus concrete! Well done, mate! You make me realize how much easier it is to put an engine in my truck which ISN'T filled with concrete!

L1, L2, L3, H1, H2, H3 equals 123456, takes me back to the first time I changed a solenoid, it was knackered, so I just launched it off the back decks into the mud, bugger, it had to be returned......also, if memory serves, though I could be wrong, been a few years, I think LRH selection was emergency reverse, no guarantee, I could just be a keyboard warrior
definitely brought her back to life!!!
