Hey James, you're right to top up heat with the mini ashp over summer, I'm doing the same. The more you move away from ambient temperature the less efficient it will become until it does nothing but still costs to run. Being an outdoor pond i will guess that will happen sooner than mine in my greenhouse. Even then to maintain 12c min in the coldest month my electric 1kw heater had to kick in! You'll find the unit will have to defrost that much its no longer efficient or can even freeze like a block 😅

Not sure if you’ve used PSB (PhotoSynthesis Bacteria) but I used it recently over the course of 5 days, and both my water AND filter has never been better. I’d heard my koi supplier always sells out of it as soon as it comes in but they had some. I was after adding some bio to the pond due to a drop in water quality after the recent spike in weather temps and picked up the trusted pond bomb and some filter starter which was more expensive, but after asking me why I was buying them both and me explaining, he recommended the PSB, which was considerably cheaper. It absolutely stinks too, and is a dark maroon colour, but boy oh boy it’s worked wonders. Better still, you can make more of it with simple ingredients, some mature PSB to start it, a bottle, and sunlight. Can’t recommend it enough!
Id never mix any bacteria product with tap water. Its dosed with chlorine or chloramine to neutralise bacteria. If you need to warm the water use pond water in your microwave.
Hey James, I know the weather in the UK very well and that's why you guys always aim for a heater for the pond. but I'm based in the middle east and in the hottest country in the world, so what do you recommend for cooling the pond (especially during summer)??
To be fair i just listened to you saying there about fines in the pond since using the magic clay from ukks koi supplys i havnt cleaned my muiltibay filter in 4 weeks all ive done is shut of the main valve drained the bays and purged them through followed the guide on the tub the results are bloody outstanding as far as bang for buck mate the lacto bacto and magic clay are on par with each other results unreal 👍🏼 my water so clear 👍🏼 it does send it cloudy for few hours but once it cycles the differences in water quality a day or 2 later is mega!

It’s down to each individual tbh putting a cover on every night would do my head in after a few weeks this way is more then cheap enough for me not saying everyone has to get one but for me it’s the way forward

Yes I have used it but this new stuff is even better then psb from what I am seeing atm I have tested all but everything in the past

It conditions the water some how it's mad the skin quality on the koi is quality 👌🏼
In your experience which is better the Lacto Bacteria ready mixed or the Burtons bacteria maker you showed a month ago in your opinion?

It must have but I have not looked into that tbh just running my pump slow as I can and it’s working a treat

So that’s at what temperature mate ? If mine cost that much a month I will have to let everyone no but heating in the summer is the way to go

Your burning electric ambient temperature costs nothing would probably be better with solar thermal and put a cover on at night

Can't put a cover on the nasty gasses can't escape you would have issues
