In today's vlog I'm diving into the heart of learning to cook traditional African recipes found in Kenya. I am joined by a friend of mine (who is Kenyan) so the recipes are all authentic Kenyan food. Each week she's been helping me navigate grocery shopping, coming up with meal ideas and more! We hope you like this video as much as we liked making it. If so, like it, leave a comment or share it with someone you know. Let me know how I did with the chapati too!!!
Beloved Fam, I see that you are really getting better with cooking Kenyan dishes under Maggies tutelage. Nice. By the way, you can cook different varieties of pilau or biryani apart from beef that is. There's mutton fish chicken or shrimp pilau. Perfect the beef pilau, then slowly venture out to the rest. As for your kachimbari, the authentic one you add lemon juice and sliced green chillies. One may also add a little cucumber slices, some sliced lettuce or shredded carrots. All in all, am proud of you my sista for blending into the culture through food. Keep the faith, peace unto you and Germaine and God bless 🙏
Those look like collard greens not spinach which in swahili means Sukuma or in slang skuma. But I could be wrong. If she told you they are sukuma then they are collard greens.
Germaine is one lucky dude. He definitely has all the right to brag. No wonder you both look like a couple of 30 year olds. You know how to live life. Keep posting and keep the positive vibes flowing. We will keep watching, liking and offering suggestions. Lots of love from EasternKenya (Meru)!
my wife wasn't born in kenya but she makes FANTASTIC chapatis, every time there is an event somewhere they search for her chapati skills..at a fee of course.
Saidah you are a good listener that was a perfect chapati for the first time making! The pilau was well done thanks to the lady and that honey from the village was pure organic good job to the elders
I love chapatis! But i have to be in the mood of making them, tho. You did well! You were so eager for your hubby to taste the chapatis 😂. The pillau looks delicious as well!
Applause Applause SAIDAH. 👋🤚👏🤜 You have made very good Chapos. (Short form for Chapatis). My family couldn't believe that u are American. Infact, they thought you are from Homabay County of Lake Victoria region in Western Kenya. BRAVOOOO!!. You will fit very well with a Luo name of 'ATIENO' (NIGHT).
Hi guys I live close to Westlands and would love to invite you for dinner . I’m Kenyan and I love that you made this your home. You will always have family here
U can't go wrong with chapati. I miss eating authentic pilau and lamb .I see u got your African soul food going on that's a fantastic sight all that good food . 😋 🫡
LOL!!! Germaine loves chapati so I had to learn to make it for him. My friend has been great and patient teacher. The pilau blew our minds. I believe we made the Pilau using beef since Germaine likes the texture more than lamb or goat. Everything was so good! The finished result did feel like African soul food. It made us very happy.
Thank you so much girl! I am truly enjoying Kenya and everything the Lord is doing through me in this season. He's still allowed me to create content doing what I love while serving the Kingdom. What more could I ask for? God bless you and your family.
Those chapatis are the bomb, they look nice and tasty. You are a quick learner especially when it comes to rolling chapatis. The spinach looks delicious as well but I wouldn't put tomatoes in there. You can also try kales/sukumawiki or what you might know as collard greens. Now I want to see you cook ugali, that's the staple and goes very well with most dishes but I pefer it with greens (spinach or kales) and beef stew.
Thanks friend. I definitely will try kales/sukumawiki. As far as Ugali, Germaine doesn't like it. We make it in the US a bit differently using the same main ingredient. It's called grits, but we eat it for breakfast and it's softer. I do like how Ugali pairs with choma, stews and greens.
I love that you started with CHAPATI!!! Kenyan men that I know lovee.. chapati. I took chapati four times a day for 4 years without a miss in my undergraduate years.
@TravelCheckIns 😁 most men in Kenya love chapati. The problem will be that he might not like chapati from the restaurant again. Yours looked too perfect. Golden brown, thin enough to be peeled while eating😋 and homemade. Let me go make some chapati now😃you made me hungry!!
Look for a friend from the coast to cook for you. The coastal ppl can cook unlike the ones from the highlands. You will never think about leaving Kenya after eating the coastal foods
God willing a friend like that will come into my life. I love exploring food from various regions and cultures. Based on what I've experienced so far, I never think about leaving Kenya, except to visit family, vacation and then return. LOL!! Thanks for watching and making the great suggestion.
