It could have been, if it weren't for the interference of the studio that forced them to change the plot, eliminate the demos that were darker and deeper, until we got the plot that we got a shame
As much as I enjoyed Horton and it's animation, I do agree; stop-motion just sounds too perfect for a Dr. Seuss movie and it's a shame that this art form was never utilised. Though I think CGI could still work well if it was stylised enough (I'm thinking along the lines of The Peanuts Movie or The Willoughbys).
I have an idea: The framing device would be a completely fictitious, fantastical take on the life of Dr. Seuss himself: Ted is a teenage writer who searches the surrounding areas around Thneed-Ville for inspiration for his books. His dream is to one day settle down with Audrey, his girlfriend, and have his work be published for all to read. One day, upon seeing graffiti of Truffula Trees, he asks his parents what happened to them. He's pointed to the home of The Onceler, and upon meeting him and paying the fine of fifteen cents, a nail and snail shell, the main story plays out. The framing device ends with Ted, now having the last seed, choosing to plant it in a pot. Years later, with Audrey as his wife, the plant inspires him to write The Lorax as his newest book. As for your treatment, it sounds like the best Seuss-to-film translation we'll never watch.
I think that your idea would have made a much better movie and is definitely in the spirit of Dr Seuss. The Once-ler being shown as a physical representation of how corporate greed can twist one’s perception of the world and its needs yet he isn’t pure evil but he’s not completely innocent is important part of the story. The Illumination version sort of got that right but also wrong at the same time by making him be a bit too happy during the entire movie.
You really put a lot of thought into this. I hope to see your vision of The Lorax get realized one day just to see how it turns out, plus it really would be nice to see a stop motion Suess project, if not necessary claymation specifically.
One thing i would like to point out is, i think you should have included the biggering in your concept, and have the once-ler have his turning moment, the moment where we know that theres the once-ler has officially been corrupted. I get that this is not really trying to be like the 2012 version of the lorax, but i think biggering could make the movie more remarkable, but also have the movie expand the once-ler's character development through it.

THE ONCE-LER (inwardly conflicted) Thank you, Mom. Why did i come up with such a scene, you ask? Well, i simply see it as an opportunity to delve deeper into the emotions and motivations of both the Lorax and the Once-ler. It highlights the Lorax's sense of responsibility and regret for the environmental damage and his role as guardian, humanising his character even more. It also portrays the internal conflict and remorse felt by the Once-ler, reinforcing the central message of the story about personal responsibility and the consequences of one's choices. Overall, this scene, i reckon, has the potential to provide a more nuanced exploration of the environmental and ethical issues presented in the story, making it even more thought-provoking for the audience. What do you guys think?
wow you gave more human emotions to the lorax and the onceler incredible Something that I didn't like about the movie is the lack of development of the characters and their ways of acting, motivations, etc., both of Ted, the Lorax and the Onceler, which I noticed were very flat without counting Ted's motivation, which seems very silly to me. of wanting the tree just for a girl, he lacks a good reason for wanting the tree, with the lorax and the onceler it is the same case, his lack of development and motivation on the onceler makes him like a victim who did not know what he was doing and He only did it to make his "mother" proud and not as the cause of the destruction of the forest while the Lorax tries to stop the oncer pathetically and with one or another mistake. I imagine that Illumination was the cause of the final product being so...disappointing, honestly this movie had potential but it was ruined, I don't know what you think. by the way good comment
I actually really love this idea, and wish it could have been reality. Don’t get me wrong, I like the original Illumination adaptation, but it’s definitely not perfect. The moral is very, very flawed compared to the book, while this idea follows the book to a T, like it was intended to be. Maybe it could have one or two musical numbers, one of them being Biggering, as that fully represents his corporate greed getting, well, bigger.
Apparently there *were* two stop-motion Seuss adaptations... all the way back in the mid-40s, where George Pal did shorts for "Mulberry Street" and "500 Hats". Good luck finding them though.
I really like all of your ideas for a Lorax adaptation, but I also feel that there is a few ideas from the illumination adaptation that could be used in connection with your story. 1) The boy character would still go out there for a velacious goal like how Ted wanted a girlfriend. However, in his pursuit of trees, he learns how important trees are and instead becomes obsessed with finding out more about them. Not only does it expand on his character, it allows for a natural progression in becoming more fleshed out by seeking out trees, whatever for their product or eviromental beneifits, but also allows him to have a better bridge between the onceler and boy segments. It could also allow the story to have a bit more of an impactful ending as the boy has fully heard both sides of why trees want to be harvested but also why their needed. It's doesn't have to be much, but it would help the viewer, who would naturally put themselves in the boy's place, and would help them make the ethical and/or moralical decision of what to do with the tree as the audience learns all the info with the character. 2) The Onceler could show his face very briefly throughout the film. Once of the idea's that illumination put forward that, if done right, would greatly enhance the impact of the message was if the Oncler was relatable to the audience (follow me with this). Basically, by being the relatable tumblr funnyman, it allows the audience to develop a true connection with him, which can be lead to the development into a tycoon that much more impactful. It helps shows that everyone, even the people you relate to, people you like, or hell even people you love, they all can become just as greedy and corrupt as the man in the green suit. That betrayal could help cement that even those you have connections with, could not be good people, that they can do the objectively wrong thing and hurt others. That type of lesson, I believe, is just as important to teach people as that trees are good. It helps add depth to the film beyond its core message and allows the message to be more vast than the original one. 3) Having the family be the catalyst of the constant biggering can also be a good set up to show how far the Oncler has desended. The family all drive him up a wall with their constant talk of maximizing profits, and so he gives in and starts biggering. This would happen a handful of times, but than one day, the family, sans Oncler because of a reason, goes on a vacation away for a while (or even the rest of the movie). This leaves the Onceler alone, but when time comes to make a decision, where as previously he would have limited or entirely stopped the biggering without the family egging him on, he now, of his own volition, decides to start biggering. Not only will this help set up the climax of the movie, but it will also help show how the Onceler has changed. He now has that money and now has been corrupted by greed. It helps show that even a man set in his ways can change with enough constant temptation. It shows not only how peer pressure can be bad when you vehemently go against what the pressure is focused on, but it also shows that even when the people aren't pressuring you, their influence could still permanently affect you. This again circles back to the concept that this movie's message scope could be expanded to be about the problems with certain mentalities along with environmentalism. This is my, admittedly, weakest idea, but I still think it could be good character development to see a decision be changed from the beginning because of the influence of the job and the people around you. That's been my essay on how some of the ideas from the illumination adeptation could work with yours while giving them a new coat of paint, but what do you think?
Honestly, I think the illumination movie had some good things going for it. Looking at the concept art and hearing the removed song (biggering) it’s clear that the writers and story boarders had clearly intended the movie to be significantly darker. The only thing I would really change is leaning more into that. The concept art shows people in masks and helmets so they have air and whatnot, and portraying thneedville in pretty much the same way, just with more obvious oxygen assistance would very easily make the movie more poignant
Your approach sounds promising. It could be potentially interesting if your version was also a musical, similar to the other animated adaptations. The idea of making The Lorax a movie musical is a good one since it's an interesting way to get into the Onceler's mind, but the approach Illumination took in making that a movie musical was ... not great. There was even a cut song for that movie called "Biggering", which would have been much more effective at showing the Onceler's inner thought process than "How Bad Can I Be?"
Your ideas are honestly amazing! I loved how your theories about Roald Dahl and many of his books, and debating about which one is the most faithful adaptation.
I non ironically enjoy the lorax movie! But maybe is because I never knew the original material. Like my friends like death note live action because they never saw how amazing was the original material. I like the musical themes, the grey character of the inventor that is not evil but in his young was ambitious. The lorax that is the voice of reason but cant directly intervine because "that is not how thinks work" an has a lot of misticisism surrounding the last seed on earth, similar to the feeling on wallE and the reflexive phrase: "unless someone really care...."
I think that they could show us vague glimpses of his face throughout the movie whilst still keeping him mysterious; either having his face shadowed with only his eyes showing or having him wear dark sunglasses and some sort of bandana/mask over his mouth.
I think it would be a good idea to reveal Once-ler's face in the end as a sort of way to expose the face behind all these bad decisions to the audience.
I was looking forward to this for months & boy was I disappointed: I feel the same way about both this movie & Star Trek: Picard. I would make it stop-motion: Hell yes. I can't even think of something done in claymation I didn't like. Monkey Bone; We don't talk about that: If there was ever a movie that made me question WFT I just watched, that would be it. I think you could have been a good designer for a 90s Saturday morning cartoon.
(Sorry if my English is poor,I did this with Google Translate) The only bad thing about this video is that you had to do it. It's a shame, because the Illumination movie could have been great. And this is something you realize when listening to the demos of the songs. In the final version of "Thneedville" it's stated that it's a perfect city and that its citizens are gullible who don't notice, no matter how obvious it may be, that they are doing things wrong. In the demo they openly admit everything that's wrong there, but they do nothing because their consumerism gives them a feeling of happiness. What's more, Ted has a meaningful motivation. In the final version he has a bit of development when he finally realizes how truly important trees are, but his initial motivation is stupid. He wants the tree to impress a girl. In the demo he has his own part where he says that all he wants in life is the things he doesn't have yet. He's just as materialistic as the rest of Thneedville and wants a tree to show it off. Then there's "This is the place." In the final version the Once-ler accidentally harms the animals. In the demo, it's no fucking accident. He damages them on purpose to get materials for his Thneed. And I'm sure you already know "Biggering", but in the unlikely event that you don't, I recommend you listen to it.
I thought a lot about making my own version of the lorax and I like your version of it. I like Marygold as a character but I kind of think of her as a Taylor Swift girl from the illumination movie but its my opinion and the end with her makes me sad :(
I'd also like to note that I think that it wouldn't be a bad idea to keep the town around just for the sake to show what consequences Onceler had on the future of the valley. I dont really have any critiques, I like this video so much! :)
Even if everything about it was exactly the same, I think that if they had used the original score then the movie could've been much better, particularly with Biggering which I actually consider to be one of my favourite villain songs ever. The fact it was cut is an absolute travesty in my eyes.
If the characters's importance (meaning, how you would classify them from main character to secondary, third, etc... to background character) respect the two main ones: Lorax and Oncelor, then the people around them... Then I am 100% with your project and I want to see a third movie adaptation being made about it.
Yeah. The way this sounds and is designed sounds WAY better than the one illumination made. Instead of being corporate and mainstream, you tell a story that shows two different sides and try to tell a story that makes people to stop and think. And with kids and adults, that's something you need to do to help them forge their own path. Stop and think, the mainstream lorax gives you obvious answers without making you stop and think.
another idea: in an alternate universe where this is the movie we got, I think it would be okay to show the onceler's head from the back or from the side/front with a shadow so he can still be a mysterious tumblr sexyman and the timeline is restored (somewhat)
Me personally, if the Once-ler were to have a face in an hour and half movie, i think this idea of mine would be a great approach: have him slowly be shown less as the movie goes on, until he's just the gloves. That, in my opinion, would have been a perfect way to show how capitalism and greed erode you away as a person until your just a logo, a slogan, a brand. It also would show how the evils of our world increasingly have less and less of a face as the system itself grinds everything down.
How I would have made the Super Mario movie would be a three film series which the first movie would be Mario saving both worlds from Bowser. The second movie would have Mario fighting Wario and teaming up with Donkey Kong. The third movie would feature Bowser Jr. and Mario taking revenge on him.
as much as i like the onceler being faceless throughout the movie, it could also be good if he starts out showing his face but he shows it less and less throughout the movie as he becomes more blinded by greed and slowly loses his connection to reality
I love the stopmotion idea but I have a better idea. Let it be in 2D animation but have the designs and backgrounds be different like the designs on the humans be rigid and squiggly, the animals hairy and cartoony and the background look fluid and simple like its a painting from a children’s book like with the clouds, trees, grass, slop and smog. Whenever the Onceler is shown, his face is covered by either by smoke, shadows or objects and when he’s seen by other characters, the camera is on them and we see from their perspective his giant height.
OK. Hands down. Really good Lorax movie. Better than the one we got from Illumination. Now, I'm gonna think of a cast for this version. Also, yes. Stop Motion works for Dr. Suess' designs.
I have an idea wear like in the illumination lorax he cuts down one tree and the lorax attempts to get ride of him and he agrees not to but overtime as his bisusnes gets more profitable he starts cutting down the trees and as the forest starts losing its color a song thats 5% lorax and 95% wonsler inspired by biggering and as the song finishes thes only the most colorest form of all the colors are left and when the last tree falls we get a veiw of the wonsler whis face is hinden in his hat and thneed scarf and then in the present he gives the kid the truffula seed
I think it would be better if Ted was extremely materialistic, someone obsessed with having the best stuff. Thats why he wants a real tree, so he can flex it. That would also make the ending more intriguing, did he learned that greed is bad or does he still just want the tree for bad motives?
why we're you hyped? none of the dr suess movie's beforehand we're good in like the least bit what made you think this would be even remotely different?
I think you should consider taking your rewrite to present as pitch to an animation studio who you know will take it, like Luca. And I’d like to see you present some more writing ideas that you’ve had.🙂I personally would like to know your thoughts on every Dr.Seuss book and every movie adaptation of them since you’ve already discussed how you were disappointment with the 2012 Lorax. On a side note relating to Seuss related content, I’d like to know, if you were to do a rewrite for Horton Hears a Who movie from 2008 with Jim Carry, what would you come up with? I ask that because I liked both the movie and the book, both books about Horton actually, those are my most favorites, but I liked The Lorax book two. Lemme know and you can discuss what you’d come up with and then you can make a video about that as well, if you want two.👍🏻😉 Happy New Year,🎆🎈🎊 2022, bro!!✌🏻😄🤟🏻😝🤘🏻😆👍🏻😌👌🏻😁👍🏻❤️💚💜💙💛🖤🤍
This makes me realize how much potential a Lorax Movie had, if thing were different, it could be considered a masterpiece
It could have been, if it weren't for the interference of the studio that forced them to change the plot, eliminate the demos that were darker and deeper, until we got the plot that we got a shame
I *absolutely* agree about the stop-motion! The CGI Suess movies are way too smooth-looking for an art style that's very sketchy and textured.
As much as I enjoyed Horton and it's animation, I do agree; stop-motion just sounds too perfect for a Dr. Seuss movie and it's a shame that this art form was never utilised. Something that I didn't like about the movie is the lack of development of the characters and their ways of acting, motivations, etc., both of Ted, the Lorax and the Onceler, which I noticed were very flat without counting Ted's motivation, which seems very silly to me. of wanting the tree just for a girl, he lacks a good reason for wanting the tree, with the lorax and the onceler it is the same case, his lack of development and motivation on the onceler makes him like a victim who did not know what he was doing and He only did it to make his "mother" proud and not as the cause of the destruction of the forest while the Lorax tries to stop the oncer pathetically and with one or another mistake.
Fantastic video! I love the drawings as well - full of character and yet not so wacky that they end up looking too silly and childlike. Great job!
Yeah, and they almost look like Dr. Seuss's actual art style. Though in some areas, it also looks like Tim Burton's art style.
A nice gift from Media Mementos, Merry Christmas.
I think its great, also I think the song biggering can work here.
Somebody get you a bucket of water cause this whole concept is fire! Seriously, somebody should get you a contract.
Your ideas are honestly amazing! I loved how your theories about Roald Dahl and many of his books, and debating about which one is the most faithful adaptation.
The Lorax & A Troll in Central Park. You're really good at finding the bottom of the barrel stuff we all try to forget existed.
I non ironically enjoy the lorax movie! But maybe is because I never knew the original material. Like my friends like death note live action because they never saw how amazing was the original material. I like the musical themes, the grey character of the inventor that is not evil but in his young was ambitious. The lorax that is the voice of reason but cant directly intervine because "that is not how thinks work" an has a lot of misticisism surrounding the last seed on earth, similar to the feeling on wallE and the reflexive phrase: "unless someone really care...."
read the book
This was beautiful.
But I kind of doubt that having the Onceler never show his face, in a 90+ minute movie, could really work out.
But then it would ruin the sense of anonymity and completely defeat the point of hiding his face in the first place.
Thanks for the Christmas gift guys. It was really something special.
I would've put Biggering, for starters. Hi, btw
I’d love to see more of these.
If you made a Lorax adaptation, it would be great. I would really like to see it. 👍👍👍
This is the better version. No contest.
Honestly , This is way better you should be the creator of the Lorax.
I’m kinda mad cause I love the 2012 Lorax but it’s your opinion
Merry Christmas to you too!
Merry Christmas!!!
I like your story and new characters
You done good, Trevor. You done good.
You should actually make this! The way you see how the story in your own version, it seems like those were very much missed opertunities.
Would your version have any songs in it? like the cut song biggering
(Sorry if my English is poor,I did this with Google Translate)
The only bad thing about this video is that you had to do it.
When can we watch this adaptation?!?
This sounds amazing!!
Wow, this sounds good. I wonder what you would do with the other Dr.Seuss movies.
You just may find out someday 😉
@@mediamementosofficial hi, l like you videos and if I was on patreon, I’d recommend you videos to make
@@mediamementosofficial Good news: There's a Green Eggs and Ham show.
You could include biggering near the end but this is still amazing
I remembered watching illumination movies, and being completely disappointed about the production.
I wish you do to stop motion CGI version of dr. Seuss books of Horton hears a who 🐘🌺
❤❤😂🎉
Yeah. The way this sounds and is designed sounds WAY better than the one illumination made. Instead of being corporate and mainstream, you tell a story that shows two different sides and try to tell a story that makes people to stop and think. And with kids and adults, that's something you need to do to help them forge their own path. Stop and think, the mainstream lorax gives you obvious answers without making you stop and think.
your idea of the onceler being taller than everyone else is genius. personally I would've just put him in some sora mask or hood and call it a night.
Your version of the lorax will make a really good movie And I imagine it being Nominated For a oscar
another idea: in an alternate universe where this is the movie we got, I think it would be okay to show the onceler's head from the back or from the side/front with a shadow so he can still be a mysterious tumblr sexyman and the timeline is restored (somewhat)
The concept art and stop motion idea gives off some good Tim Burton vibes.
Don’t forget to add Biggering
To be honest (If this would be feature length) The Once-Ler should have a face. Having always be blocked would not allow for more dynamic shots.
@@worthybutter2004 I absolutely agree! The human side of the once-ler slowly disappearing as the movie goes on would be an interesting idea
You gotta do more of these movie fixes, man!
Can you do how you rewrite The Cat In The Hat Movie?
Thanks for the interest, but I don’t take requests.
@@mediamementosofficialisn't this a request video
That was a request.
Sorry im late 😓 but i just watch this honestly your version for this sounds really interesting ^^i like it✨
How I would have made the Super Mario movie would be a three film series which the first movie would be Mario saving both worlds from Bowser.
I think that the faces of the whole Once-Ler family should all be hidden, just like the Once-Ler himself.
Sotp Motion ideas what you doing
Thats more accurate in the books onceler is a faceless humanoid
Could you please do a video about red version Tomb Raider?
Not gonna lie, I like your interpretation of it. Good job!
If you make that Lorax adaption can I be the voice actor for the onceler
Stars, I wish this movie was real! I'd watch the crap outta this.
OK. Hands down. Really good Lorax movie. Better than the one we got from Illumination. Now, I'm gonna think of a cast for this version. Also, yes. Stop Motion works for Dr. Suess' designs.
A cast for the voice actors?
Also dude I dont think he saw your comment. You should probably DM him or smth
I would definitely watch this.
I would have made the disney remakes stop motion animation cutout animation if I could be incharge of them I agree
wouldnt i be great? There is a possibility for it to become reality, it just takes determination and (of course) money
I love this idea
I think it would be better if Ted was extremely materialistic, someone obsessed with having the best stuff. Thats why he wants a real tree, so he can flex it. That would also make the ending more intriguing, did he learned that greed is bad or does he still just want the tree for bad motives?
why we're you hyped? none of the dr suess movie's beforehand we're good in like the least bit what made you think this would be even remotely different?
Because I was thirteen.
What about The Grinch with Jim Carrey and Horton Hears A Who (also with Jim Carrey)? Weren't those decent Seuss movies?
@@worthybutter2004 I'm not the biggest fan of the grinch myself but hortan is decent

Speak for yourself, i thought it was one of the better Seuss movies.
I don't care what other people say. The 2012 movie is great but the 1972 movie is better.
Amen. And so is the book.
@@worthybutter2004 I’m with you here.
Lemme know and you can discuss what you’d come up with and then you can make a video about that as well, if you want two.👍🏻😉
