You make all the books you love sound so good! I really want to check out Heartberries and Howard’s End. Lock and Key is SO good, I’m due for a reread. I totally get you on books being such a big comfort during these times. I hope you achieve your Shakespeare goal 😍 such a cool project!
Loved hearing your answers to these questions ... so many good books and so many feelings that I could relate to. Mama Day, The Count of Monte Cristo, Locke & Key etc. You seem to have had quite the brilliant reading year thus far. Funnily enough, I'll also be finishing up reading Shakespeare's work... I have 3 plays left to go. :D
It's going be weird to finish all the plays, but at least Shakespeare has great rereadability. I hope you enjoy your final three-- the lesser known ones can be so hit or miss!
Not sure if anyone cares but if you are bored like me during the covid times then you can watch all of the latest movies and series on InstaFlixxer. Have been streaming with my brother for the last few weeks xD
The sheer volume has been something I've noticed in my reading this year too! I didn't expect it and it's made me happy too in a covid world. And yess about Locke and Key. I read the first volume thinking I'd just try it out, and then next thing I knew I had read all six back to back.
Right? Those books are addictive! And yes that's how I'm trying to put a positive spin on 2020 haha... reading records will definitely be broken this year!
The Simpsons episode is also all I really know about A Streetcar Named Desire! Glad I'm not the only one who thinks of that reference :) I've recently taken a turn with reading I think. I have read a lot, but I have also realized how numb I've been a lot of the year towards what I've been reading. Recently I've been much more excited about books and reading, and so I'm hoping to make some good progress on my TBR while I'm still indefinitely unemployed 😅
Haha I'm glad you know what I mean about Streetcar! I rewatched the episode and it was even funnier now that I am more familiar with the play. And I'm glad to hear you're feeling better about your reading! I hope the upswing continues on into summer for you :D
It's been great hearing what books you've enjoyed this week. Of course, your video is filled with books I've always had the intention of reading and haven't got around to yet. I think the Locke and Key series is on the forefront of my to-read list though - I wasn't the biggest fan of the show, but I have this feeling I'll prefer the graphic novels. Good luck finishing off Shakespeare's plays. 👍
Thanks! Sadly, I don't think that I have left the best plays for last haha. And yes, the graphic novels for Locke and Key have such a different atmosphere. I didn't make it past episode 2 of the show so I'm not fully sure how they compare, but the comics are definitely worth checking out! :)
I took your advice about Beowulf and read it in one sitting. It was incredible! My eyes were not loving it so much LOL but I'm so glad I did it. Thanks for the tip!
I love that mug. The favorite new author question always makes me think because I feel like it’s been ages since I found a new favorite author. Not sure what that says about my reading and if I’m reading too far out of my comfort zone or if I’m not trying enough new things.
I know what you mean! It's so exciting to connect with a new author but it's not really something that you can plan. Do you like to try reading your favourite authors' favourite authors? I've found that approach helpful! :}
I love Proust as well. I wish there were more book studies on Proust on RUclips. Why don't you do a video on the series Remembrance of Things Past. Would love to see this.
I loved your answers. Have you heard about the author Patrick McGrath? I like his books, especially Asylum, and the audiobook is narrated by Gandalf! 😅
I read Asylum many years ago but haven't ready any of his other books! That's cool about the audio version though. If I ever reread it I will have to give that a try! 😊
I read the Lydia Davis translation for Swann's Way, but then I switched over to the Montcrieff/Kilmartin/Enright editions... mainly because they were more affordable. Both were enjoyable experiences! From what I understand the Penguin editions are more modernized/Americanized (but I don't think they've completed the series yet), whereas the Modern Library translation is an updated version of a classic English translation
Hmm I'm not sure but I'd guess about usually about a page per minute? Although I find it really varies from text to text depending on the writing density or font/page size!
You are a true voracious monster and that's why we love you 😂 You've got me at a quandary, Alex: for--at least--a year youve been taunting Proust and Hugo and quite frankly youve got me ... I mean, you _know_ I trust you but I'm just not prepared to devote years of my life to Proust lol (I don't think; I mean, I'd rather spend it w Joyce! He's _that_ great, Alex?) Alright, then: I suggest a readathon viz 2021! The only way I would read Proust is w You & Brian @ Bookish. Seriously. IMA read _Noopiming,_ soon, too! P.S. _The Count of Monte Cristo_ is an All Time fav ... Thx for mentioning it. 😊
@@bigalbooksforever You know I'm teasing ... but life is so precarious, these days. I'm getting fed up: just w the American politics and COVID19 and the riots _every night,_ here, in Portland. Hi Alex, it seems to be superfluous, but would you consider making a video about the most beautiful editions of your bookcase?
I'll keep it in mind-- thanks for the suggestion! :)

I love Proust as well. I wish there were more book studies on Proust on RUclips. Why don't you do a video on the series Remembrance of Things Past. Would love to see this.
It is an intimidating series to talk about, but yes I would love to make a video about it! :)

So inspiring, Alex. Are both your Proust editions translated by the same person? I also loved The Count of Monte Cristo.

Do you track your reading somehow? Have goodreads or something else?
Yes I track my reading in a journal, a google doc, and on goodreads! :) www.goodreads.com/user/show/10922578-big-al
bigalbooks would you show that journal??? Sounds intriguing!
@@garbagerat4700 it's not aesthetic like some people's bullet journals haha! I just use it to keep track of dates mainly :)
How fast do you read? how many pages per hour?

bigalbooks Makes sense! I’m trying to up my speed so was just curious. Thanks for the response
Love your videos but this was interrupted eight times, yes eight, by advertisements.
Eight times?!? That's brutal! Thanks for the feedback
I uploaded it too, a few hours ago.
Nice!
