How to Install Marble or Granite Countertops in a Bathroom

- In this video, you'll learn how to install pre-fabricated marble or granite countertops in your bathroom using basic tools you probably already have at home.
You'll learn how to measure for marble countertops. How to cut stone countertops using a circular saw and a diamond blade. And, how to glue the marble or granite to the cabinets.
First, you start out by removing the existing countertops and leveling the cabinets to prepare for the marble.
Once the cabinets are flat and level, measure them carefully and use those measurements to cut out a wood template from 5/8" plywood. This wood template should extend from the wall to the edge of the countertop and will act as both a template and a support for the final installation of the stone countertop.
Use the template to mark the marble or granite for cutting. Then, using a circular saw and a 7" turbo diamond blade, cut the stone slowly. You'll also want to cutout the sink hole before you install the countertops.
Now your'e ready to install!
First, screw down the 5/8" plywood to the top of the countertops using 1 5/8" screws. Be sure to pre-drill near the front of the cabinets so you don't split the wood.
Then, Dry fit the marble to make sure it fits. If it does fit, remove it, apply a generous amount of silicone to the plywood, and then set the stone countertops back down. The Silicone will act as an adhesive and as a cushion to ensure contact with the entire surface.
The, caulk the edges with a color matched caulking (usually you can find this in the tile section of a store). Add a backsplash, install the sink, and you're all set!

There is a critical point about using 5/8" plywood to support a thinner (3/4" in my case) marble countertop. I made the mistake of drilling the plywood with 1-1/4" diameter holes, matching the faucet hole size in my marble. The threaded shank protruding down through the countertop and plywood was 1-3/8" in length, exactly the thickness of the counter+plywood. Thus, I had NO length left on the shank for placing the plain washer and threaded washer on the shank on the underside of the counter. Those washers are necessary to fix faucets in place from the underside of the counter. I had to Rube-Goldberg something to countersink coaxial holes in the plywood so that I could install the smooth and threaded washers on the shank. **Make sure your faucet shanks protrude below the plywood surface, or else drill the plywood with holes large enough to leave access for your faucet washers**.

They are the old oak cabinets that came with the house. I just painted them that color.

Be careful cutting stone close to cars and open garages. The dust can ruin a paint job if not properly cleaned off as well as earn you a lawsuit from the right clien. Just looking out.👍 Nice video btw

Drop in sinks shouldn’t be cut before installing. You can easily break the countertop
I disagree. You do need to be careful once it’s cut but not having the dust indoors is worth the risk.
Handyman Startup I install Granite myself brother. Anytime i have to install a countertop with a drop in sink, i cut it on site outside.

@@mohammadayyad5242 y not juss bring the piece cut alr. If u have a workshop do all the fabrication over there. Then bring the piece install apply backsplashes if any. If u have to make sink holes u use a vacuum it's that easy. Then u detail and clean the piece with acetone. That easy bud. I'm only 15 btw
And it wont break if u carry it right and aren't an idiot. Have company with you to help you lift the countertop I know it can b hard. And becareful with prefabricated 45 degree edges they chip easily.
my god, this is not a way to cut diy top. The garage is filled with dust. And, why the truck is parked very close to the workng bench.?
