I don't think they are specifically calling out any person(s), just anyone who is trying to mold you in their ideals. however if you interpret many of their songs aka the nightmare series the way I do, the 'they' is the kpop industry. try 'and there was no one left'(special clip). one of my favorite dc songs and if you like black or white, you will love it for a similar reason.

The one singing the 'Black or White' part is probably the song's music producer Leez. He also added his own voice in the 'Devil Eyes Come' part in Scream. He likes adding parts to Dreamcatcher songs, like a signature.

Personally I feel the lyrics perfectly tells their response to the kpop industry where there is usually a common stereotype especially when it comes to girl groups. Eg, cute concepts or girl crush. Your analysis is high quality, despite not being a "professional" dancer, singer, kpop star, etc. Your video quality is great. You really pay attention to the video and the content and not just "hey look at me being wow'd by kpop stars". And it's lovely that you're a fan of Dreamcatcher and appreciate every single member. The "argument" is probably them not wanting to conform to the standards of the kpop industry. They don't want to do the cutesy concept or make generic music for the masses. They'd rather pave their own path. And they have.
For sure, and there’s a video out there of the members reacting to their performance which is really sweet - they are so hyped when they see the cuts for the first time.
At least two members have "freedom" tattooed on their body. I think the experience of some person/entity/institution trying to limit your choices to what suits their interest is SO COMMON there is no single "meat and potatoes" situation that inspired the theme. It's more a Mamamoo-style anthem for rejecting the restrictions that others place on them, whatever the specifics of each incident might be. Like a lot of Dreamcatcher songs a certain meaning can apply to them specifically (women, in an age-based Korean culture, in an industry that commodifies human beings for corporate profits) but audiences around the globe can also relate in whatever ways apply to our lives.
Yeah, but they could also refer to Liberty in Japanese (自由). That's pronounced Jiyú! Yes, that JiU (지유), the Charisma Rabbit Leado... Especially, Yoohyeon who adores her oldest sister... You never really know with Dreamcatcher! 😏
Loooove this song and the performance video is SO COOL!!! Hope you also check out some of the live performances with Handong because she sounds amazing on it too! Also, there's an official "cute" version of this video. And it's as hilarious and cringy as you would expect XD 10/10 recommend.

I'm no expert, but I think that the precision that DC bring to their choreo, contributes to the match cuts. I think it wouldn't look anywhere as good, or even work at all, otherwise. The very first time I heard this, right from the beginning, I got MJ vibes. For me a lot of has to do with the guitar riff. It's not the same, but gives me the same energy. Everything from the song title(for those that don't know MJ's work, he has a song called Black or White also), the composition and obviously the choreo, literally screams Michael Jackson homage to me. Love it. And yea, the bass bangs!!!! 😁
