No other utes have cruise control issue when towing actually the gwm Cannon alpha/tank 300/tank500 does exactly this thats why we had to develop a harness to mitigate the issue. We will have our tow test up tomorrow.
When Paul decided to harpoon the Shark with that stupid little tow load rig it was not plugged into the tow harness, and the regeneration parameters didn’t change. Chances he knew this ? Let you decide.
Ordered a Shark and so far BYD have been great. Just the one contact and expecting to pick it up in the next 2 weeks (hopefully). In terms of cruise control BYD are aware of it so hopefully an update coming soon. I don't tow much at all so not a deal breaker for me.
I’m surprised that since the shark was mentioned they didn’t have a response to John Cardigan ripping them to shreds. Come on car expert we all know you saw it so what do you have to say?
it's actually a legislation that you must have full control of the vehicle when you are towing. Its the same with GWM cannon, same with Sangyang Musso, they don't activate CC when you tow. However, the interpretation of this law varies as it doesn't specify what type of vehicles. So every other manufacture just goes with it unless regulatory body forces it. Chinese brands just want to play it safe here since they are much newer to the market.

Lol if you read the comments sections of various reviews, I'm pretty sure that Australians are willing to give Chinese companies like BYD a go. The U.S. reviews of anything BYD prove that the Americans are not, with lots of racist vitriol, but us? We are willing to try things to see how they actually are.
Well the byd shark isnt the only chinese built ute. I havent seen any LDV t60 electric utes or Jac T9 or even the new GWM hybrid on the road yet. For some reason aussies dont seem to be giving them a go and theyre from china.
Back in the 1990s we had a business in Brisbane, and for quoting we bought 2 Hyundai cars, they had great warranties, were cheap, very well equipped, and did the job, a bit rough round the edges in those days, but fun to drive. When we sold up to move to NZ, people were fighting over them. You are right, Ausis are willing to try something new if it stands up, so to speak.
I ordered One and I am Expecting it within the next week. BYD has been great. lots of communication and updates and they cant be blamed for the dock strike.
Shark Cruise control issue should be an OTA fix fellas, yes it’s interesting that it wasn’t picked up when Aussie benchmarking. I wonder if its a requirement in other RHD markets. I’m waiting for my shark and after owning a BYD Atto for a couple of years I have no issues with BYD service, build quality or reliability not a big fan of PHEV would rather a simpler BEV but where I live currently if I want one vehicle to do all the things I need to do unfortunately a PHEV is a necessity until changing infrastructure improves 👍😁
China is currently in the process of building up it’s military faster than anything we have seen before. There is a reason for a country to do that. It is because they are preparing for war with the west (i.e. the USA and all allies such as NATO, Australia, Japan, Philippines, South Korea and all the others). If you purchase any Chinese products or services, you are directly supporting the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) to continue to build up their military. China is currently supporting Russia (They are ‘best fiends’) in the Ukraine war. China’s key allies are Russia, North Korea, Iran and the Taliban. Before you buy a product or service from a Chinese owned company have a long hard think about where that money goes and how it will impact you and your family’s future when war starts. China’s leader has said publicly that it will be by 2027.
You can’t currently use any of the special drive modes in the Shark when it’s towing either, such as ‘mud’, ‘snow’, ‘sand’ etc. Seems like they forgot that we have gravel roads and beaches out here 😆.
As long as byd listen to and respond to the feedback then all should be good. If not, not ideal for towing in aus that is for sure. I'm getting one, but won't be towing.
It’s interesting you mention the bings and bongs / warnings etc. My partner’s got a new 2024 Lexus NX (I was the guy who mentioned to you last year that it took just over two years to arrive). Anyway… the calibration of all the safety systems are brilliant (and believe me… I was wary of them). The only bong it makes is if you leave your hands off the wheel for too long with the self-driving. That’s it!! Driving over a white line… it gently guides you back. No bong. Going over the speed limit… the speed sign in the headup display just goes red. No bong. It also doesn’t have the eye monitoring system (THANK GOD)… so no bongs there either!!!!! So there are manufacturers out there that do it better than others!!
Did it pass Euro NCAP testing in 2024 or is it an older model that has been out for a while. Seems to have been tested in 2022, so not subject to the same rules or interpretations.
You guys are loosing me with your bias against Chinese cars generally, electric especially and BYD specifically. Chinese cars are the future….I suspect you guys aren’t. Was a big supporter. Shame you’re holding onto the dinosaurs for the $.
That's funny. I always felt their bias is particularly towards Chinese cars. I can't remember Paul doing a review of one that hasn't been good, even if that means making excuses for their issues.
The fork you mean? Out of all reviewers, Carexpert and Carsauce are one of the the most unbiased car reviewers in Australia. They praise Chinese cars for their luxury, bold and quirky design elements while also criticise any short comings they have, it is this criticism that these Chinese cars have gotten better. Remember, Chinese cars have shorter RND time compared to legacy brands, making facelifts, improvements come in much faster. Its entirely possible a shark 6 update will be coming to address the issues they found with the current gen

Yes beeps and bongs drive me mad and one of the reasons we haven’t updated our 2, 2021 vehicles, all the 24/25 cars have all the safety tech that would drive me insane, so we just decided to keep our 21 models, which have some of the tech but no bings and bongs.👍
ANCAP are introducing penalties in 2026 for badly calibrated driver aids, e.g. all the bings and bongs that interfere with the driver, this will drop their star rating, can't come soon enough, this should force manufacturers to take these things seriously rather than just sticking an "off the shelf" box just to get them past the requirements.
@@GDM22 It wasn't ANCAP it's Euro's fault they mandated all this extra crap, everyone else just tags along, same al all the emission requirements that's causing engines to become so overly complicated they are getting less reliable, EURO compliance is killing the combustion engine

BYD Shark isn't trying to be a 3.5 tonne towing ute, it is offering something that most ute buyers need with the bonus of V2L. It will do well.
