    NOTE: The glacier wall is enormous, about 50 metres (164 feet) high. This sheer size helps explain:
    1) The waves in the video appearing small but actually being large
    2) People clapping due to the enormity and spectacular nature of the event
    Visit joe.in/perito-moreno-glacier-patagonia-argentina/ for more Perito Moreno Glacier information and images.

    Hi just letting you know that Perito Moreno glaciar is one of the few in the world which is unaffected by global warning this happens naturally since, well ever, actually every 3-4 years the glaciar creates sort of an ice bridge which breaks down and then it gets rebuild, it even pop ups in the media every so often

  • @Los6317
    @Los6317 3 года назад +1

    It’s funny to read comments of people that have never been there saying that the people clapping are stupid because they’re clapping. I’ll address two things. First, the glacier is between 50m and 70m tall (as tall as a 25 floors building), try to imagine a building that tall falling in front of your eyes. And the second thing is that despite global warming, this glacier is growing and the breakage is a natural thing that occurs in the Argentinian summer.

    • @joshuacornell6667
      @joshuacornell6667 7 лет назад +10

      Talking to yourself here, look up the definition of tsunami, this is along the lines of that definition, though its not much bigger than a ships wake, then again the water was calm so yeah this is definitely albeit a weak one, a tsunami.

    • @AtarahDerek
      @AtarahDerek 7 лет назад +3

      After watching this video, yes we do. A tsunami is not defined by the damage it does. It is defined merely by what triggers it.

    • @haroldreardon8070
      @haroldreardon8070 7 лет назад +2

      So, Atarah, if someone in a swimming pool splashes water on you, that then becomes a tsunami . . . .

    • @AtarahDerek
      @AtarahDerek 7 лет назад +3

      Harold Reardon If they do it via cannonball, then yes, that is, in essence, a very small, brief tsunami. An artificial one, since it is manmade. But we build wave pools for the express purpose of generating artificial tsunamis and seiches, and not just for study, either. We do it for recreation.

      The Perito Moreno Glacier grows and falls all the time unlike the other glaciers in the world, that's why it is special. People claps because after that it will grow back as it always was (you can investigate or watch videos by yourself).
      It's a glacier that is not affected by global warming.
      people go to visit the glacier and applaud because it is a natural phenomenon that has always occurred and the glacier always grows back so there are no problems.

    For those saying this isn't a tsunami, it technically is. By definition a tsunami happens when a disturbance in ocean triggered by some external event like an earthquake or glacier/landslides generates a continuous series of waves. This is not necessarily a tsunami on the scale of the one in Japan, but this certainly is a tsunami.

    • @justforfiles4045

The whole world is corrupted. All presidents think about making money and having power and control over population. Then you have illuminati controlling the media, music, Hollywood, etc. Focus on the bad and wheres your joy at ? The bible? The bible half of is a complete lie. A man came to america with a bible and a gun and both destroyed billions. So let's focus on the sad part. I say if you have no control then there is no point of worrying. This isn't "tsunami-like", it IS a tsunami. Yeah, it is - despite the many comments claiming it's not. Just because it's not spreading across the entire Pacific Ocean does not negate it being a tsunami, which is caused by the displacement of water due to the uplift or dropping of the bottom of a body of water, or the sudden collapse of land (or ice, as shown here) into a body of water.

      Yes it is. It meets all the criteria for defining a tsunami.

    • @combatboots3517

      AtarahDerek no it doesn't.

      Combat Boots Which criterion doesn't it meet?

    • @combatboots3517
      @combatboots3517 7 лет назад

      AtarahDerek it was neither a long nor high wall of water. Some nice ripples though and a cool splash. I give it a 7/10. We can't go around calling every big wave caused by something a tsunami now can we?

    • @AtarahDerek
      @AtarahDerek 7 лет назад +2

      Combat Boots Yes, yes we can. Because that's the definition. If it's not a tsunami if it's triggered by ice, then it's not a tsunami if it's triggered by a landslide, either. Which leaves YOU the burden of defining that monstrous wave in Lituya Bay. Best of luck.

    This is not the result of global warming, in fact, the Perito Moreno Glacier it's getting bigger each year! The ruptures are just natural events caused by the weight of the ice and the pressure of the water of the lake.

    J'ai vu ce glacier en 2004..... tout était calme..... d'un coup un grondement fantastique.... un son sidéral..... faisant vibrer toute l'athmosphère.... puis silence.... et l'eau du lac s'est prise d'un fort clapot qui a durée 20 minutes..... puis de nouveau tout calme et silence!!!... le front de glace avait avancé d'un coup d'une valeur inconnue mais significative!!!..... la marche constante du glacier (de 150 km) est de 5cm par heure
